As you know by my previous comments already I'm quite found of wooden boats but for long time cruising I'd think about an extra layer of Aramid or Glass fibre at least. Especially when you really want to go north into the ice. But even for the danger of hitting a container or a whale. A wood -epoxy construction is anyways no more able to get recycled.
Yes, the boat's exterior (and maybe interior as well) will be covered with fiberglass cloth to sustain contacts just a bit better. Pine (the wood I'm going with the veneers) isn't really that hard wood anyway. Fire will recycle the boat eventually... 😥 But yeah, that's something I've been thinking alot. If you think about pure wooden boats, they really hinges on certain preservatives that are very toxic. Like lead paints or substances like that. So when making with epoxy, that's plastic all right but it shouldn't be toxic to life in that form. And I try to keep the plastic dust in control - not allowing it to spread to the environment.
I see a flaw or problem in your design on the gantry axis, if you ever need to replace your linear bearing you cant slide the bearing block off due to the the gantry end support must be removed to insert block on the rail.
henri Hi! The end stoppers are removable, so they should be easy to replace. But thanks for the comment, I have to check the design over to make sure there’s no other issues with maintenance...
Arctic SeaCamel they may be removal.. you may loose your parrelizm you will have to retramm.. I would make separate removalable front and rear triangular gussets to brace your Gantry Bridge on each side. If you need to remove the front guessets the rear gusset will brace the gantry in place. Make the gusset to sit in front of your y axis motores
Just found you - any chance of an update? From your schedule it indicates hull manufacture 2019. Have you had a meeting of minds with the naval architect?
Hi. Not very much has happened. I've had way too much work lately and still trying to sell the house. Also I'm still little concerned of my tendency to seasickness. What if I cannot handle boat myself at all at bigger seas... Also I haven't had any money to spend to naval architect yet. Plans for hull will cost at least few thousands.
Arctic SeaCamel Well that is a very good point about sea sickness. There are two types in my experience, the type that effects you for a short period when first at sea after time ashore ( from 1-5 days and then you are OK). The other type is chronic and without any cure apart from sitting under a tree.😉 You need to establish what type you are - do some winter sailing out in the Canaries either charter or crew for someone.👍
I don't yet know which I am. But I have two trips that had involved seasickness. The first one was few years back in canaries (from which you can find a video here). That was roughly one day (24 hours) trip from Tenerife to Lanzarote. The seas were big and choppy and after couple of hours I was knocked out for the rest of the trip. The other experience was this summer. I participated in Gotland Runt (ÅS Offshore Race) as crew member. There had been more than 10m/s winds for a few days and Baltic Sea's waves are quite steep and high aptitude. As soon as we got out to offshore, after couple of hours i was in the bunk again. This trip lasted longer and I was out of the game over 48 hours. It was so horrible that I swore that I'll never go into boat again. But the love for sailing still hasn't disappeared... But there's a big doubt if I'm ever going to be able to handle big seas by myself. There may be a chance to have one longer trip in near future. Just to test if I'm able to do this at all. Until then - there's a big question marks all over this project. But I have done some planning for the boat and stuff now and then. Maybe I'll do a video of this in near future.

Oh. I misunderstood. Henri ment x-axis. Yes, I can see the problem. The big end plate blocks the removal of the bearing block. Have to deal that...
You are wise to go with wood if you have no experience with welding.

Arctic SeaCamel OK - yeah you need a longer trip👍
This is a dead project...
Haha. I wouldn't say it's dead - for the reason it really has not started yet. :)
