If anything, the reason why it was so hard (and still is a challenge somewhat) for dark skinned/brown skinned black women to find foundation/concealers in their shade, is because the industry is aware that WE don't need makeup anywhere near as much as THEY do to look alive, fresh, and glowy. They're literally accommodating the DEMAND for people who they know NEED it to actually look like something. You can go out amongst everyday people (not airbrushed celebrities) and see who has the most need for makeup to look even remotely interesting because of universal aging and sun damage issues. BW need to stop sleeping on natural black beauty; we are literally the most beautiful women and no one can change my mind about that!
Last time I checked black women always rocked the bare face look until the baddie era . Look back in high school it was non black women with caked up maybe it’s Maybellin caked up makeup . Remember that whole joke about non black never wearing the correct foundation nor blending it down their neck . I started wearing foundation when I turned 22. And about 6 years ago I got deep into skincare and now I barely where makeup and if I do it for special occasions.
I’ve thought about this topic for awhile but something I’ve noticed is that no matter how a person of African descent looks, once you are deemed attractive people suddenly start combing through your family history to find a potential non-black ancestor to use to justify your looks. I think a lot of people inside and outside of the black community need to address the fact that they have internalized the idea that a black person cant be beautiful and just be black. Ive seen this happen to black people all around the world diaspora and mainlanders and it’s seriously scary to me how quickly people for example will look at someone whose entire family has never left Nigeria and then try to say they have to be mixed because they find them attractive. The way anti-blackness exists in this world is absolutely insane

0:00 Thank you!!!❤❤ like yeah I understand that certain features may be a little more dominant in certain races and i would guess that is why we use terms like afrocentric and eurocentric to specify, but that does not make that specific look the only permanent feature in that race. Each and every person on this planet of every race has a different look and in my personal opinion if we use those terms(although I see why they are used) , they are making things more confusing and this is the outcome of it. Picking apart a black woman who looks "European"?? How does an African look?? Is this black woman less African? What about let's say a white Woman who has more quote on quote "African" features? Would she feel less white?? How would her features fit? But I understand the human need to categorize things when that thing is more common in certain groups and since we are all programmed to see certain features as representatives for a group, we critisise those we see as not "us". And then then this behavior goes to culture, how we act, how we talk etc. BUT, I sort of understand their reaction because more smaller features are pushed whereas more broader features are more often critisized. I just dont think it's good to start berating women with "smaller" features. Although more broader features are rightfully getting more love and appreciation as they should, that ghost of the past is still there. At the end of the day its up to people to work on their inner problems than wanting everyone to conform to what they see fit and getting offended when it doesn't match their ways. This is a very sticky topic to cover. Trying to understand all sides. Sorry if I'm rambling😅
It's true that certain features are more dominant in a group. But I think a lot of people sound totally brainwashed when they see a pretty dark skinned woman and immediately say she is eurocentric. These women don't even have pointed nose or small lips or whatever feature they tie in with whiteness. It's just not exaggerated full features.. Which is what a lot of black people have. How many black people do you see a day that looks like Jay Z? And then they are quick to want to claim Tyla and Mariah Carey. It's crazy.
@actuallyjuliee yup, I see where you're coming from. So this side of the convo is that a black beautiful dark skinned woman can't just be a beautiful dark skinned woman. She always has to have that "something". What is that something? I would say something not close to broader features. Yes, it's a very interesting point you made. Some don't have the really so-called "Euro features" but quite common features that most black people have, and as you said, not exaggerated as much. I guess since their features are somewhere in the middle and not on the broader feature side, it still passes in a way, so it's acceptable?? If you see what im saying. Thats a very good question about Jay Z. I'll have to say no, not as common where im from. And his features get critisised a lot and even a glo-rilla or Ari lennox. It's really sad how facial features are discussed. People still have a sort of disdain for men and women with more broader features, although these features are represented more now. Yup, the mixed race women are given a pass more because that standard of beauty is still there. But I am very glad there are a lot more features being shown than just one particular look. It's just that people still uphold one over the other and try to say that black women can't just be a beautiful woman, and that's causing issues. Great video!! I’ve really been enjoying your channel! I’m dark skinned myself, but I have gotten the whole “digging through my family tree to find a non black person ” treatment because of my hair. However, I think the worse comment I’ve ever gotten was when a black guy asked me if I was mixed with something. He even started pointing out my facial features. After I told him no for the 3rd time, he responded with, “ well you must be mixed with the good black then.” I was so shocked and speechless. I think a lot of things need to be 'dewoked'. Otherwise a lot of us will spend most of our time being miserable. Even I am still learning that. Not everything needs to be broken down and analysed. Some things will never change and the best you can do is make the best out of your life and time while you're here. If we continue this trend of seeing people as an 'ism' or 'phobic' first, we will just continue to take away from their humanness and be miserable in the process.
@actuallyjuliee yeah I agree with you👍. Everything is scrutinized nowadays a little too much. People just gotta lean back, take a deep breath and think things through. Yeah I also had to learn when to calm down and analyze things differently. There are times for genuine real criticism, and then there are times to chill. Those people just sound miserable. Yes, some things will never change and that's a part of life and as you said so beautifully, seeing people as an "ism" or "phobic" takes away what makes us human , that little flaw we all have and doesn't allow any healthy conversations. Love your last statement and keep up the good work❤️❤️
The craziest thing to me is,we're the original people! Therefore, features inherently come from us. Sudanese women tend to have slimmer noses and pouty lips. Their skin is darker but, their features are dainty, naturally. Lupita comes from one of the oldest haplo lines in the world. Untainted with European ancestry yet, she has been labeled with European features. Make it make sense. These people have been mimicking our beauty aestetic for centuries! Yet we still demonize our own beauty🤦🏾♀️ Self love and personal style is key in this society. Blinders on, loving on yourself, knowing yourself. Peace y'all!
Great video Juliee! I recently read a book called 'Don't Touch My Hair' by Emma Dabiri (a great book I would recommend to everyone) and came across a Yoruba phrase I never heard before: 'a dú bíi kóró isin' which translates to 'one whose skin is as beautifully shining as the seed of the Akee apple' or 'black is beautiful' for short. My Yoruba isn't that great so I asked my mother to pronounce it for me. Then she said, 'You know that Ugandan girl with the afro on UA-cam (Angella)? She's the very definition of the word. Her skin is black and it shines'. I love this phrase and will be using it more often!
Amazing! But babe the background music there has to be a way to make better production! I want someone out there to help you because the things you have to say are amazing you just need a team that can help you produce it! I’m going to keep tuning in and giving my like because you’re amazing g
You're right. Some Black women LOVE to play the victim and it's getting played out! ALSO, despite the fact that ALL features come out of Africa, many people don't realize it, because we don't stress this enough. We talk about European features, however many native Blacks of Africa have European features too. Asians have European features. What is labelled as Caucasian comes from bone structure. Many Africans have that same bone structure. FACT: You can be Black, straight out of Africa and have a Caucasian or Asian bone structure. Look at the native East Africans and native South Africans. In fact, Europeans only make up one-third of the Caucasian/ European features of the world. All features are beautiful!! However, a lot of beauty standards are not only based on prejudice, but ignorance.
WE DONT HAVE THEIR FEATURES, THEY HAVE OURS !!!!!!! Please let that sink in . They came from us . That’s what you can go to any parts of Africa and see the entire world just on 1 continents
The music is loud but I would like to also suggest to slow down the clips with the comments and post It’s flashing through too much and it matters what is written as it is what the whole video is addressing so we should be able to read atleast a sentence with out it flashing though photos so fast. ❤️❤️❤️

Yep yep. If it was shorter 4c hair, they'll come with the "Why is it always short hair, 4c hair can grow too!" They always have to pick apart every thing to find some 'anti' or 'ism'.
I said the origin of the Latin word 'beauty'. Black people were not in the western world when we later knew as the beauty standards was set. So ofc it excluded us. That's why 'black is beautiful' even became a phrase. Obviously I think it's bullshit and race doesn't dictate beauty but it needed mentioning.
Look up brown paper bag test ,blue vein society, mulatto, mixed which aren't black but Euro seed had their own communities, were bias against pure blk in America before this phenomenon of so called light skin mixed identifying as blk
@@actuallyjulieeActually, you're mistaken. There were people from Africa in the ancient world...a LOT of them. There was plenty of trade and travel, even through Europe. So yes, there very much would've been darker skinned women and men who would've been held up as an ideal alongside fairer skinned people.
0:48 is WILD because who is "we?" If she wants to wear makeup, that's fine but I hate that she acts like she being Black is a physical detriment that needs to made up for. There are many Black women who feel and look wonderful with minimal makeup or no makeup at all. If that's not her, she needs to stop projecting it onto others.
Even saying the pretty black woman or saying why can't black women be pretty sounds anti black to me. It makes it seem like ur saying black people with wider and flat nose like myself are ugl1y. Instead you can just say black women can have softer features.
That would be to say that having a wider nose is a "hard" feature though, which one can argue is also anti black. Nothing hard about looking naturally black.
I'm giving historical context when I say 'pretty black woman'. Same way the 'black is beautiful' movement started because black features were demonised for so long. Nobody says 'white is beautiful' because it's simply... unnecessary? to say that. Also, I don't use that term outside of this particular context bc in real life, there's plenty of beautiful black women and the world has adjusted, except for weirdos on the Internet apparently.
I didn't see anything in that definition you had on the screen for the word "beautiful" that excluded any race so I'm not sure why you said it excluded black people. But the other issue is that even if that was the case, if you take a word created by a completely different culture then it would not be surprising if it didn't apply to all cultures across the world. I also wouldn't expect that a standard created by a civilisation in Africa would necessarily be easily applicable to or encompassing the standards of a civilisation across the world. That's just common sense.
We are both saying the same thing. The word 'beauty' was from a different language/culture. WW were the blue print. So of course it excluded black people. Which is why the 'black is beautiful' movement was even a thing. The world is still governed by European beauty standards, but it's more inclusive now. Like I said, it's hard now to know what the precolonial beauty standards was in Africa, so I definitely agree that people should create their own spaces if it is not made readily available to them.

Love your last statement and keep up the good work❤️❤️
Best comment I’ve read in a long time
The craziest thing to me is,we're the original people!
Seems like an awesome book.
Amazing! But babe the background music there has to be a way to make better production! I want someone out there to help you because the things you have to say are amazing you just need a team that can help you produce it!
I’m going to keep tuning in and giving my like because you’re amazing g
Yeah. I'll change my editing app. Thank you!
I love you. Thank you. This is how I’ve always thought.
The music is loud but I would like to also suggest to slow down the clips with the comments and post It’s flashing through too much and it matters what is written as it is what the whole video is addressing so we should be able to read atleast a sentence with out it flashing though photos so fast. ❤️❤️❤️
Ice spice is biracial, her mother isn’t black.
Heck, her father is barely black too.
@@actuallyjuliee by the way her father is looking, i think he's mixed as well
That's why South africa has the word colored meaning mixed ppl in SA
@@sharissharee-pm2kq they are not from SA. And colored doesn't mean mixed. Colored is a specific heritage. Trevor Noah isn't colored but he is still mixed.
Angella summer is so beautiful i love her❤️
Please turn the music down
Uche Natori made that Tweet?! T o T oh nah...
Great video but please Remove the music or lower it very low please . Its annoying and extremely distracting.
Noted. I'll change my editing app atp. ❤️
Can I suggest turning the background music down a bit…love the video ❤
We won't have that problem again going forward. Thanks for watching. ❤️
The music is not that loud....
Can you re upload this video with out the music in the back?
This needs more views
The people who make comments like the ones in the posts you show, are the same people who will have something to complain about on the other extreme of the standard they complaining about. They the ones that have to be the victim and/or victimize the person in question. otherwise their BS cant run.
Yep yep. If it was shorter 4c hair, they'll come with the "Why is it always short hair, 4c hair can grow too!" They always have to pick apart every thing to find some 'anti' or 'ism'.
another banger!
😍😍 Hey, bestie!
AS A BLACK AMERICAN MAN!!! I LOVE BLACKWOMEN I LIKE THEM NATURAL FROM VANILLA WAFER --- DARK CHOCOLATE!!!
Music is way too oud could you please upload again because because i feel like what youre saying is soooooo important
@@KNt820 sorry bae. It's already been uploaded can't change that. But watch with the captions on or without headphones for better hearing. Thank you.
22:16 22:25 facts its all jealousy
Tell them ❤❤❤❤
All in all, misery loves company and that's the bulk of the people who reside on the Internet. ʅ(˙ - ˙)ʃ
If you believe that Beauty excludes African features than you need to learn to love yourself
Your background music too loud
Sorry, b. It gets better 2 mins in. But I already changed my editing software. Will be better next time. 👌
Thank you for this video but , the Background music is way to loud , we can't even hear you .
Sorry about that. It gets better 2 mins in.. Will work on that to provide better edited content next time.. Thanks for your feedback!
Actually Julie is back to DEBUNK everything. Amazing !! 🤩🤩🤩
Man I cant hear shit
18:36 18:40 LITERALLY
Great subject, Amateur audio management. Can 't hear a word.
Working on it!
Had to cut the video within a few minutes. Between the language barrier / accent AND the music it’s tough to listen to 😢
Chiamaka 😍
Your music is too loud...makes it incredibly hard to hear what you're saying.
Africans always talking about black Americans, talk about yourself and those that look like you.
I did in my previous videos.. Plus the woman in the video is Ugandan. Say something else. 😊
omg stop trying to create diaspora wars
bruh forget the identity politics. Us Melananted people need to Learn to appreciate each other and ourselves.
