    I did mine because I didn’t have one at all when I bought mine the previous owner was going broke and sold the car because they couldn’t afford it and he told me it had no filter because the old one was so restrictive because it was bad. I kinda just guessed how to put it in and was half right, I put it in right except I forgot to check the air flow directions. So much better now thank you

    This design is very similar to the cabin filters used by Lexus. FYI use two hands and take it slow, carefully slide it through the glide tracks pushing with one hand and pulling with the other and you can keep the filter looking nice! I noticed a lot of Mini enthusiasts just yank the new filter in and don't maintain it's gilled structure. I don't know if it makes a difference but when the filter is all bent it looks really hacky! Also this design is a lot better than the awaked cabin filters in BMW 1 series and 3 series that's are located in the engine bay and have the most fragile tabs that are difficult to align. The Mini's air filter placement is a lot easier to access also!

    I bought a 2008 Honda 2 years ago (used obviously), an EX-L. Apparently, I was the ONLY one that thought of replacing the cabin air filter in it, as it looked like it had been there a good decade plus already. Nasty, full of leaves and dust/dirt and feathers. I can't remember what Honda's recommendation is, but at $ 10 a filter, I replace it yearly as part of my P.M. rounds.

    It's an unusual filter and this video is probably the most concise you can get for this one specific task, which is awesome.
    However.... I personally (and possibly many other subscribers) subscribe to these channels for general entertainment, a short video once a week is a bit light, I'm considering un-subscribing so I can rediscover the channel in a few years and have some content to catch up on.
    You don't owe me anything, and I'm not trying to be a downer, I just wanted to post this in case you are seeing a loss of subscribers and wondering why. You'll still get my ad revenue, just a bit later than usual. :)

    • @ericthecarguy
      @ericthecarguy  5 років тому +2

      I recently moved into a new house and that has taken up a great deal of my time as of late. I needed this video to fill the gap, otherwise, I wouldn't haves had any video to post today.
      That said, expect more short videos from me in the future. It seems they get a lot more views and help with the algorithm. Although the videos may be shorter, I hope to post them more frequently, twice a week if I can swing it. If I can get help with editing, I can start working through the backlog of footage that I have and provide even more content. However, it's not easy to find a good editor I can afford.
      Consider that network programming only has a certain number of episodes they produce in a season. I've been producing 2 videos a week for almost 10 years now minus the break I took last year. Not many people realize the time and effort that goes into this work. In fact, for the most part it goes unappreciated. I'm not saying you're being unappreciative, just honest, I'm just trying to give you some insight into what it's really like to produce content like this for a living. Not to mention the additional work involved in social media, my website, my blog, or any brand deals that I do.
      Still, it's better than a real job I suppose.

      All totally fair, I am really appreciative of the work you put in to these videos, and your comment responses :)
      I really do look forward to your videos every Friday, I just had a little "aw another short one!" moment, I'm probably just a product of the binge watch generation.
      Still hoping HBO gives you some of that dragon money. ;)
      Hope the house move went well.

    If you ever find yourself thinking "Man, I'm bad at my job", just remember that someone was paid to design an air filter that goes in like this and you'll realize that there are people out there far worse at their jobs than you.

    That has got to be the most dorkey-ist way to engineer a simple cabin air filter!! WTF.. Why not just a simple rectangle job that you pull out and pop the new one in?? That's how they do it on my wifes Toyota.. Anyway, thanks Eric for showing us all what vehicle to NOT buy... ha, ha!

      If Mini Cooper is supposed to represent German engineering then Germans can't engineer for s***.

      Lol I'm surprised they didnt insert a picture of a filter to trick you into thinking it is there when it's not. Germans cant engineer for shit that's why they have to fake their ratings to pass inspections.
