    Thanks for sharing this information. I’m not a fan of crowds but I do love the views that remote places have to offer.

    Rode this recently - lucked out a bit with weather, it wasn't too hot in the desert sections and there was just one small fire closure near mt hood. Part of the trip was over labor day weekend which I expected to be packed, but we actually saw fairly few people out there. Cache Mountain, Beatys Butte, etc were very fun on the motorcycle.
    Also some rains had knocked down the sand and dust - we hit some cold and fog in some places, so would like to do some some sections over when it's clear.

      Nice, glad it wasn’t too packed. We were out in Mt hood for Labor Day weekend and we were surprised how little people were out

      @@ScaleofTwoYeah, temps had cooled several days prior and you couldn't have fires at campgrounds - it maybe wasn't the weather people were looking forward to.

    Enjoyed the commentary on Part 1 regarding the "history" of the ORBDR. Definitely a bit of a rebranding but it's hard not to be sympathetic if the prior stewards of the name didn't want to collaborate. Oregon has so many connecting trails that labelling one as ORBDR is somewhat arbitrary. It's probably good to keep those who want the direction in a set course.
    I appreciate the open discussion. It annoys me to no end when you hear someone bemoaning the "newcomers". I could classify anyone who started in the last 25 years as that & I know there are others who predate me by 1-3 decades more who could say the same of me. Ultimately, there will always be new people and it's better to shepherd them into overlanding responsibly. The ability to use GPS, Gaia, Google Maps, etc has revolutionized offroading and certainly brought more people; however it's also a lot clearer what someone is getting into and hopefully, its consequently safer. Nice work!

    Hi, i recently went through the sunriver to christmas valley section, in the middle of February. Weather has been weird lately. Had a great time and it snowed a little bit.

      Weather has been pretty crazy this year for sure. Glad it was a good time! Need to get a trip down it on the books for us as well.

    so the shop in Fields doesn't want to make money?

    • @ScaleofTwo
      @ScaleofTwo  Рік тому +2

      It’s not really about money. The towns in SE Oregon aren’t setup to handle hordes of people. The point I’m trying to make is to just be respectful and patient along the journey.

      100% agree with you. Sounds to me like a whole lot of don’t come here. We want to keep Oregon to Oregon.

      @@ScaleofTwo fair enough. Born and raised here. It took some time for me to warm up to new people showing up. Once I figured out that they just wanted a good time too it wasn't a problem. I share all my spots. Why not ya know? Do your thing though.

    Shoutout to Dylan for carrying most of this video series, he's got some great knowledge and experience with all of this. If you haven't subscribed to Dylan & Tessa's channel, you absolutely should! www.youtube.com/@westernwildoutdoors

    I hadn't checked out the new route maps yet, but from the sound of things, we'll probably just avoid it 😄 Crowds are definitely not the reason we head out, and for the more experienced folks in our hobby, we should be encouraging them to get more remote, create your own routes, etc.

    • @Western-Wild
      @Western-Wild Рік тому +4

      They certainly picked some beautiful places for the route to explore... but the original 5 OBDR routes were much more remote and less crowded.

    • @ScaleofTwo
      @ScaleofTwo  Рік тому +1

      I agree for the most part! I think we’ll probably use these routes as guidance for areas to check out, but we’re not necessarily planning on doing this whole route in one go. Especially during the high traffic months

    Planning to do #5 reverse to go over to overland expo pnw
    And with a suggestion for places like fields, and should be commonplace is to be generous, tip the people, and be kind and not a "Karen/Chad" as that will go a long way with helping them with things for sure

    I’m interested in looking at the route for the purpose of figuring out cool places to go to. I haven’t been on Facebook in years so I don’t have any resource for cool places besides here on UA-cam for the most part. Thanks for the heads up on potential problems with the route!

    An important concept for all back country travelers. Please respect private property and private homes along your route. I live along section 4. The USFS road behind my home is a good gravel road and some drive past out home at 30 to 50 mph. People do not look in their mirrors and see the dust they are creating. Also watch out for people walking and pets on or near the road. Am I asking too much for people to respect others? I am an overlandeder and love to explore back country roads. Sorry for the rant but it does get old quickly.

      Did you notice an increase in traffic this summer? I know the Three Creeks Road closure probably kept it down a bit. There were certainly more ADVs in Sisters this summer.

      Not very scientific but YES. I understand why people drive the road. Central Oregon and Eastern Oregon is a killer place. I just returned from a four night trip to the edge of the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. Soon snow will close off access until spring. I will be exploring areas east of the Cascades when the true winter storms come. @@Western-Wild
