Hi Anthony. Thank you for this info. Very helpful. I just want to ask, do you have video tutorial how to return cold start setup? My car has below 800rpm during cold start and goes to 1000+ rpm when it heats up. Appreciate your reply. Thank you
No I don't have a video for that. You can take off the negative battery terminal, push the horn to discharge the caps in the computer and let it sit overnight. Hopefully that resets the factory computer.
Good video. I have same engine -92 and one cylinder drops out when running idle and on low revs. Shakes a lot on under 3000rpm when accelerating. Have to try this because new plugs and coils and tubes did not work. I hope its not the fuel inhector. Pump probably not the issue cos engine runs fine on high revs. More hints :)?

I have a 95 Camry. It wouldn't pass smog because it was idling at 1,100 RPM's. It doesn't surge at idle, it just runs fast. It should idle at 750 RPM's. I will give this a try.
Does the actuator valve reset its position automatically? Cuz when you take it apart and twist that valve it will basically just stays where you set it. There's not a spring or anything to close it. So when I took mine apart and cleaned it I didnt know exactly where to position it before putting it back together?
HeartofTacoma I did! My celica is my daily driver now! I had a performance air filter I replaced the original air box with.. there was a sensor connected to the original box that I just let hang, it drove for awhile then started actin up and eventually stopped working. I put the original air box back connected the sensor to it runs great now.
Awesome fix Anthony, I'm having a similar issue when I start it cold. However I noticed there is motor oil coming into the air intake hose from the small hose on the side, is that normal or how much should I worry? Thanks man
Quick question, after I replaced the spark plugs, I unplugged the throttle body and clean it, now the car won’t idle. It runs smooth (not rough) for 5 seconds then turns off, do I need to reset the throttle body? Basically the car stalled after five seconds.
I solved the issue, a fuel pump resistor with heat sink that was mounted to the windshield wiper tray needed to be plugged back in. That explained the short running of the engine of about 5 seconds.

Hey Anthony, I don’t know if your still responding to comments but my 97 2.2 I think has a bad iac, now I’ve been chasing my tail forever trying to figure out the problem and I feel these things are connected and I would love your help. So, quite a bit of oil gets in through my pcv and my intake has carbon buildup all over and when I take off it jerks aggressively and then smooths out in the 3,500 rpm range and up. I think it’s iac and I’ve cleaned it. It also only does it when the car has warmed up. I’ve done everything tune up and I would love it if we could maybe exchange messages so I can get some more knowledge about my vehicle because it only has 145,000 miles.

My 2006 Toyota Sienna bogs down when I start to accelerate and is very choppy unyil it gets higher speed >30mph-ish. It revs up just fine when it's in park, but in drive is when it bogs. Could cleaning the throttle body and that little hole be the fix? Maybe it needs a new o2 sensor? Thank you for your time.
Live in the UK & own a 1970s Toyota. Different system back then, but with idling issues nontheless. It's an automatic & although not fitted with a rev counter should be at 1500 rpm when starting from cold, then fractionally above 1000 rpm in Park or Neutral, fractionally below 1000 rpm when in gear at full operating temperature in those cases. Instead certain times idle drops to zero when in use warmed up causing it to kill itself stopping at junctions, roundabouts & red lights. Also can tell when it's not right when it runs uneven & lumpy. Would be a good car if idle speed stayed at the mentioned constant level & permanently so.
toyota 4a-fe engine in my 97 prizm. engine boggs when releasing the accelerator, braking/idling at low speeds after accelerating some. seems like that was a similar issue to yours, however i cannot keep my car in park/neutral. it revs up and down constantly. Only when you cold start the car does it idle “normally” for about 45 seconds. Then the engine drops rpms to practically stalling and then starts revving up and down. Do you think this will help with that too? Trying to fix this problem for cheap rather than buy a new IAC Valve. Car was free 🤷🏼♂️
My 04 corolla have high rpm when cold start( 2100 rpm) and come back down afte couple minutes when its warm. I clean the mafs sensor and throttle body but it didnt change nothing. Whats ur opinion
My 98 rav4 is idling in gear at about 550 and the thing shakes like crazy. No codes. Data seeeeems okay from a layman's look other than low rpm. Think IAC? I hate to do a parts cannon on it.
does that problem turn the check engine light on and cause the car to not want to drive when in gear mine does that until it warms up and the check engine light will go off and car drives great until it it shut off again
Given that it's called IDLE air control valve, just as your title states, I'm trying to understand what acceleration would have to do with it? Accelerating involves opening up butterfly so there is no need for IAC during.. in simplest operation. On my old rig it's closed during all WARM operation, using coolant temp is how it opens and closes. So on cold start, it's fully open and within a few minutes closes completely. On your's, perhaps the computer uses it to fine tune air intake even at acceleration..must be, right?

That first idiot mechanic who blew my heads also told me to replace distributor because electrical inside was bad. 14 months later, I finally had a second OEM distributor I could tear apart...there are no electronics inside! That motor has a slight miss you can hear when you rev it, its not the IAC .New plugs ,wires, and fuel and air filter is probably needed .its possible you just dont have plug boot on good, also possible you have a slow or lazy o2 sensor
IAC QUESTION; Do you know if the IAC Is responsible for raising the idle speed when you turn the a/c on in an older Camry? I know the computer is involved, but does the IAC do the physical work? My 99 Camry's idle spools up a bit higher, then it settles down to exactly where it was when I press the a/c button to on. What is confusing to me is my previous 98 Corolla maintained a higher idle speed when I pressed the a/c button on to help with the bigger load on the engine. Just not sure if my Camry is supposed to be doing the same thing.
@@AnthonyJ350 I appreciate the advice, but I do all my own work to my cars. I'm just inquiring about the IAC to confirm that it works differently than my last Toyota. Thanks.

AnthonyJ350 Noice! That's a good point. I swapped out our Camry egr a few times thinking that was the cause but symptoms just repeated. not cleaning the throttle or IACV was my fault. Great vid bro

If it’s a 88 it might be carbureted engine, same with my ‘90 Corolla, with cold starts you have to press the gas pedal a couple times before you start it.
Yes iac is there to bump idle up when ac is on and smooth it out. Also increasesidle over 700rpm tomaintain charging from alternator when you turn on high drain electrical accessories and radiator fans. If your battery goes dead while idling with ac on for example...and alternator is good then its likely that the iac is not working properly. Ive also had cracked vacuum hoses cause poor or high idle

You can try upgrading the ground wires in case it's an electrical issue.
@@AnthonyJ350I saw that suggestion on another video. When I asked 2 different mechanics about upgrading the ground wires, they seemed to be confused as if that's the first time they'd heard of that.

Bad idle sensor? Is the battery in good condition? Poor voltage can also lead to sensor putting out incorrect readings.
Trying to solve similar issue, holla if you sort... I'll try inspecting the IAC interim
I have a 95 Camry. It wouldn't pass smog because it was idling at 1,100 RPM's. It doesn't surge at idle, it just runs fast. It should idle at 750 RPM's. I will give this a try.
Let us know if it helps!
@@AnthonyJ350 I just tried it and I got the RPM's down to 750-800. I take it to the smog shop tomorrow. THANKS A LOT! I'm sure it will pass now.
Does the actuator valve reset its position automatically? Cuz when you take it apart and twist that valve it will basically just stays where you set it. There's not a spring or anything to close it. So when I took mine apart and cleaned it I didnt know exactly where to position it before putting it back together?
It's magnetic, so you just have to reinstall it.
Same engine as my 94 celica going to give this a go having a similar issue
EGR valve could also cause the issue. Look into an EGR delete
I’m able to drive for a good 20 minutes down the road then my car starts acting up rpm gage acting weird. I’ll look into it thanks

Thanks man
That hose is part of the PCV system. It's normal for a little oil to pass through. Here's a video

very good job my Toyota have the same problem I do it by watching you
Did it work out for you?
Quick question, after I replaced the spark plugs, I unplugged the throttle body and clean it, now the car won’t idle. It runs smooth (not rough) for 5 seconds then turns off, do I need to reset the throttle body? Basically the car stalled after five seconds.
Try holding the throttle open a little after you start it so it can burn off the cleaner.
No cleaner was in the engine. It appears the the throttle body couldn’t stay opened for idling.
I solved the issue, a fuel pump resistor with heat sink that was mounted to the windshield wiper tray needed to be plugged back in. That explained the short running of the engine of about 5 seconds.
@@davidnguyen5028 thank you for adding the fix to your system
Hows your car working now after the idle car issue ?no longer having problems with cold starts?
Cold starts are perfectly fine. It started stalling due to the EGR being faulty. Now it's all good
Can it be cleaned with maf censor cleaner
Also check the EGR if this video doesn't work.
Yes

You might also want to check the EGR, it might be malfunctioning.

Do you have any suggestions that how I can try to solve this issue..

Sounds kind of normal since the compressor is adding drag to the engine. A lot of 90's vehicles are kind of like that. Is the car completely stock?
Its a completely stock..but the rpm drop is and greater than usual.. sometimes I have to switch of AC when reversing the car , with AC the engine almost death..
I suspect the IAVC or FICD..

Does anyone know how to lower the idle speed on a 2000 Toyota Avalon? When at a stop it keeps wanting to move forward! Even on a slight incline up it creeps upward!

Try disconnecting the negative terminal, push the horn after and let it sit for an hour to reset the computer. Hook it all back up and take it for a drive.
You can see if there's also a relearn procedure for Toyota.
Where does the hose on that little vacuum cushion thing connect to?

How many times did you have to spray it be because after I sprayed it it’s still doing it

AnthonyJ350 how about the little square port and do I remove the electronic part as well as the middle hose underneath soo i can get access too the screw too let the gunk out and will it have a hard time starting afterwards??
The way to regulate the IAC valve is to turn the screw all the way down and return 6 turn CCW, rhis is the original setting.

Is that the original setting for this motor or it applies to all Toyota motors with a screw adjuster?
Hi, how to do that?

My 2006 Toyota Sienna bogs down when I start to accelerate and is very choppy unyil it gets higher speed >30mph-ish. It revs up just fine when it's in park, but in drive is when it bogs. Has the van ever had a tune up. Are all thr fluids changed regularly?
My 2011 Camry is doing this do you think this will work
It's worth trying
Thanks for your comment!
toyota 4a-fe engine in my 97 prizm. engine boggs when releasing the accelerator, braking/idling at low speeds after accelerating some. seems like that was a similar issue to yours, however i cannot keep my car in park/neutral. it revs up and down constantly.
If the car was free and original IAC valve is cheap in the grand scheme of things.
Hope you can help me to know the location of iac valve in toyota corolla 2010.
No idea, did you check the service manual?
My 04 corolla have high rpm when cold start( 2100 rpm) and come back down afte couple minutes when its warm. I clean the mafs sensor and throttle body but it didnt change nothing. Whats ur opinion
Maybe look into changing out the air intake temperature sensor and also check for vacuum leaks.
My 98 rav4 is idling in gear at about 550 and the thing shakes like crazy. No codes. Data seeeeems okay from a layman's look other than low rpm. Think IAC? I hate to do a parts cannon on it.
I'd also check for vacuum leaks. It's older so vacuum lines can crack over time. Also check the PCV valve.
@@AnthonyJ350 vacuum would increase the rpms no?
What is that you are using to clean
Throttle body cleaner
Did you have high rpms at park neutral
Only like 2,000 RPM
does that problem turn the check engine light on and cause the car to not want to drive when in gear mine does that until it warms up and the check engine light will go off and car drives great until it it shut off again
Maybe, I would scan the vehicle when the check engine light is on to see what part of the vehicle is being affected.
There wouldn't be a need for it but if that valve isn't operating properly it may be affecting how the induction system works.
