I run a Deore M5100 11 speed (11-51 teeth) on my otherwise XTR M9000 drivetrain. I have an SG cage RD-M9000 rear derailleur which Shimano specs for a max low cog of 46 teeth. With the 11-51 Deore cassette, I wound the B-screw in most of the way--there's about 3 threads left to full in--and the shifting is perfect. The gap between the jockey wheel and 51 tooth cog is around 8mm which is within the 8-9mm range called for when using a cassette with >42 teeth large cog. The derailleur is connected to the bike's stock hangar conventionally (not direct mount).
Little tip for anyone whos having shifting issues with this set up you see how his loop is next to nothing going into the derailleur thats hows its suppose to be, i put a bigger loop going in and it wouldnt shift proper! It took me ages to work out
I've researched alot before buying the 11-50 Sunrace cassette. I took a risk and bought a M8000 GS RD to go with it. I can confirm the configuration works really well tho I also upgraded the RD with a Wolf Cage. I cannot say for sure if the standard RD works. I am using a PC-X1 SRAM chain, M8000 shifter and a 34T RaceFace NW chainring on a Calibre Bossnut V2. All I had to do was to remove a single chain link.
As SGS capacity is 47t, could you add one pair of links to a chain or is it the maximum length of the chain? The less "stressed" is the mech in extended position (large cog), the less backpedal problems you have. This setup is amazing (50t is not exactly supposed to work with Shimano as its mech is designed to take 46t maximum cog) but nevermind it works brilliant!
Hello, how it responds this set up over the time on your bike ??? I have the m8000 sgs with the 11-50 cassette, 32 T set up and my blocking system or the clutch gets damaged on my deraliur so i was wondering if it was because of the tension of that this cause on the deraliur. Thanks for any help.

I have an SLX with this same cassette, it doesn't drop gears but the last gear or two make more noise than the others while you're pedaling on those (the other ones don't make any noise) is it normal because of the sprocket size, or is something wrong?

Určite záleží aj od rámu - od dĺžky zadnej stavby. Ale my používame štandardné dĺžky reťaze, a ešte sme aj skracovali. Veľkosť rámu L, aj na Giante, a momentálne aj na Rocky Mountain Altitude. A žiadny problém. Takže nemal by byť žiadny problém.
I'm planing to do the same with replacing my Deore XT 11-40 11x2 with cheap Deore 11-51T cassette to have 1x11 tell me if it worked for you. I have RD-M8000.
@@theumacura I finished it this weekend. I was starting to think the XT 8000 rear derailleur wouldn't clear the cassette until I put a few turns on the B-limit screw, and it's all up and running like butter.

@@genadkata Yes, on 46 cog chain fell, I changed to 11 speed 11-50 SunRace on the same bike with the M8000 and no backpedaling problems. 11 speed SunRace cassette has better chain retention. Use SRAM chains.
You will have problems with cogs bigger then 46. Your chain pulley will need to be placed far off the cogs so it won't wrap the chain around right. Bad setup. Stay on 11-46 or buy a new Deore 11 speed set if you don't want a new freehub.
You should try using it with 12T Narrow-Wide Pulleys (metal bearing) + RD Extender (Wolftooth Goatlink 11), or may be with 12 speed chain too and see the difference. * My bike setup is 11-50T cassete with Shimano RD-M7000-11-GS and 34T Chainring.

O cambio é o mesmo para o cassete de 50d da SunRace: XT GS (medium cage) , o XT SGS (long cage) é apenas recomendado pela Shimano para configurações 2x11 e tem limite de 42d, contra 46d (teoricos) do GS. Muito provavel que mesmo com o B-screw completamente apertado o XT SGS (long cage) não consiga acomodar 50d.
I've got exactly the same xt/SR 11-46 on my Spectral and was thinking upgrading to the 11-50. So it obviously fits with a medium cage but how the hell do you get it to back-pedal without dropping any gears.
@@chairmanmeow8388 why you just make sure the inside pedal is up before you turn. Insted of back pedalling you pedal forward half a turn , its the same thing.

For that price, two years ago, with "low cost" cassette with 11-46 range and short cage, it was shifting smoothly! Yes, now I have Shimano XT 1x12 complete group and that is something completely different. But I think this was good option for 2017 as low cost solution.
O fcourse you can buy 300g Garbaruk 11-48 for 200€, or 360g Sram Eagle 10-50 for 400€ (in Slovakia), but Sunrace is much cheaper. It´s about priorities :)

I think for 11-50 you need SGS. For GS, 11-46 is maximum.

I haven't any problems. I'm riding this setup till now. But new 12sp XT with Sunrace cassette 11-50 is on way to me, so I will be upgrading shortly 🙂
Your chain might be short, or you can try screw the "B screw" more to defer the pulley from the cassette.

On 11-50 set-up is long cage derailleur. On 11-46 is the standard one.

@@nasitahu I didn't notice difference in durability between Shimano and KMC. Both of them last around 500-600km until 132,8mm measured with caliper.

When you have one front chainring you can use any size of chainring. You will need only longer chain.

I have used Shimano XT and KMC X11-93 chains.
Similiar durability in my case. About 600km/24 000 height meters. Then 132,8mm measured with caliper.

It can't shift right because the pulley wheel is way off the cogs. Otherwise it wouldn't reach wide enough. Bad setup this 11-50. Sram style 😁
How do I determine if I got an GS or SGS ? Mine has 95mm between cogs center screws and comes from 2016 Canyon Spectral AL 5.0

In my area i have 700 for 45 km.
34 on the front is fine with 10-42 with that elevation.
even if it's a bit on the heavy side i'd still take it over Sram eagle's super expensive cassette
