They really are. I have two Sunrace cassettes and the Shimano on a third bike. We are actually going to install a Sunrace 11-46 on a friend's bike tomorrow. He currently has an 11-42 SRAM with Shimano mount.
I’ve been using a shimano 11-42 cassete, 11 speed on my SLX M7000, 34t front, and can’t complain! I’m 37 years old, fit, and my area is fairly flat though. Greetings from Brazil!
Tony's Hobbies I ride around 3500 km per year, light to intermediate trails, part in the city until I get to the rural area. I’ll replace both cassete and chain when the time comes. However, when my SLX dies, I intend to replace it for the new Deore 11s so that I can still use the SLX shifter. It manages cassetes 11 51, and I can’t imagine using more than that.
It's interesting you consider the Sunrace gearing superior to the Shimano. I could understand what you mean, on paper - the gaps between the upper cogs are smaller with the Sunrace than they are the Shimano. HOWEVER, I probably use the middle portion +/- a cog or two most often, and that's where Shimano has 'better' (closer) gearing than the Sunrace. Granted, the lowest four cogs are more evenly spaced on the Sunrace, but I"m curious how often folks are in those gears? When I need a low gear, I am in that gear and not likely to change until the slope substantially changes. Travelling on a trail, where I hope to spend more of my time riding, those middle gears get used a LOT.Just a different perspective.
It all depends where and how you ride. For me the Sunrace works well on my FS bike. I am actually using the Shimano on my hardtail where I rarely use the 46T ( tend to use the HT on smoother, flatter trails) and like it on that bike.
Looking at the sheet, I would prefer the sunrace over shimano too, I'm using the shimano xt 11-46t and will replace it soon with this sunrace. Was looking for hope even thou it's very expensive but the quality is crap base on the feedback or review.
mjojr jr For me the surety of quality/durability and ease of shifting the XT provides outweighs any minor and occasional advantages the Sunrace gearing provides. XT over Sunrace.
I prefer the closer ratios in the 4 biggest gears....when going slow, there's less a drastic change in the % of gearing, and you can keep your pedaling cadence smoother at lower speeds when climbing steeper or tech'y stuff.....save the wider ratios for going faster....
My 2018 Trek Fuel Ex 8 brought me here. Just ordered the Shimano 11 46 (11 speed) to go with a 34t chainring with a GX derail err Tired of walking my bike up the super inclines. I think I'm going to peddle up now while on the saddle 🤔
Overall spacing is better the gap on the shimano is HUGE. Have you tried the sunrace 11/46 with sram direct mount narrow wide front chainring ????? It’s really nice 👍
Thanks for the video! I from in Brazil and I will need change my k7, after this video I will stay with my SLX 11-46, the stagerring is what answer me better.
Nice video 👍 I have that Sunrace casette and I have the problem that I broke the smallest 11T cog. Because you have both Shimano and Sunrace I would like to know does that Shimanos 11T fit to Sunrace and vice versa? It would be really helpful information because I can't find spare parts for Sunrace anywhere.
Definitely enough if you use a 30 tooth in the front. It also depends on the climbs on your trails and how strong you feel on them. If you have long steep climbs you might want that 46t. I use a 30t in front with the 11-46 and am sometimes glad I have that big ring. I’m old though
I ordered Sunrace MX3 11-42 Casette, as replacement 11-36 Sram Casette - Because i'm not sure my rear derailleur can handle 46T model... Any modification for Your derailleur, or mount, to handle this 46T cog? Or this bike come with 46T as standard, just cog replacement? I've got: Sram X0 Long Cage model.
You MIGHT need a longer B bolt. With my shimano no mod was needed and the stock b bolt had enough adjustment. If I remember correctly the cassette included the bolt
@@TonyHob Just fit 42T version yesterday. B-Screw is "just enough". Some problems with "bites", which old casette sprockets made to alloy body of DT Swiss Hub. Sunrace casette is sitting more tight than Sram casette on hub. So far, so good.
Another thing i've noticed: With 2 sprockets at front (2x10 system at my bike) with "crossed chain" (large cog at front/42T at rear), still working, and shifting superb, BUT i cannot recommend to ride at this gear settings because drive is louder and alloy 42T will wear out a lot faster. And 114T links chain is "long enough" to cover all combinations (front 39/26T set)
If you're used to riding a road bike with closer gear spacing, Shimano cassette is better, 11-37 w/46t for those situations where you don't have the legs, or the terrain is too rough to maintain cadence in a faster gear.
I have one sunrace cassette in the fleet. No problems so far whatsoever. They are coming on strong at their price point.

I've gotten 3 seasons on my Sunrace 11-46 on a 2019 gt sensor.....still shifts great!
I’m still using this one too, great quality!
Thinking of trying subra evon my gravel bike replacing a xt is shifting sharp ?

On some of my trails I never use the 46t. On others I wish I had a 50t 😂. I’m 52 years old

I'm looking forward to this upgrade as I just ordered mine currently using xt m8000.
this just popped up on my feed, I had a 11 XT kit and felt that the gearing is off. that Sunrace cassette would've fixed the issue!

I really don't know, have not tried it. I would have to take them off and see. I'll let you know if I find something out.
@@TonyHob hey, thanks man. It would huge help for me 🙏
Their 11-32 works great on my training wheels. Not much different compared to Ultegra.
Great video! What freehub body would fit a shimano slx 11speed cassette? I’m new to biking.. would appreciate a link to it. Thanks mate

@@TonyHob thanks
Good stuff man
Hi sir I have the same specs as yours, slx with sunrace cassette but i have 36t is that fine for11-46 ?
It depends how and where you ride. If you don’t have steep or technical climbs, or if you are a strong rider then that gearing is fine.
@@TonyHob mostly i ride xc straight road like sands with some stones here in middle east. thanks for the inputs sir
does sunrace 11-46t compatible with xd free hub?
No, the SunRace XD compatible version is 10-46t 12 speed
bonjour c est quoi vos pedales ?merci je voulais du sunrase pour remplacer mon 105 route,c est bon materiel?
How did those iFx cranks hold up?
I don't have the bike with the iFx cranks anymore but they held up fine while I had them (almost a year)
how does it ride thinking of swapping
Rides great. I have it paired with an XT derailleur, no problems whatsoever
@@TonyHob I dont like the jump either

STX o SLX????
LOL! After two years you’re the only person that noticed that! I’ll fix it, thanks 👍 Ahora sí está correcto, gracias
@@TonyHob tengo una alubike XTA Team full Shimano SLX por eso me di cuenta del error.
Shimano bases their gearing on mathematics not visual...
I base it on riding not mathematics or visuals...
BTW, I had been using the STX on my hardtail up until last week, when I installed a 12 speed on it.
