@@drewblack3442 I don't know anything about Ryan, it's just a name. But if finding him so he can go home, if that earns me the right to go back to my wife, well then, that's my mission.
One of Marc Shaiman's most recognizable and iconic compositions ever written for the screen! It captures the idealistic honor and integrity that should come with the most powerful position in shaping the history of our great nation and the ongoing experiment of the democratic process of government in the world.
Favorites6591, So very true. I love this music, and, your great style of writing, too. Thank you. We have so many wonderful comments. They reflect Marc Shaiman's great achievement. Thank you all. Yes, I fell in Love with Anette Bening! :)
Yes, this is used for the queue music in both Soarin' attractions in California and Florida. Also, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is used as well. Funny item to note, both are Universal Pictures.
In a way in The American President's case as it was released by Universal in international countries, but was done by Columbia Pictures (At the time) before being sold to Warner Bros. through Castle Rock Entertainment (Which was cofounded by this film's director: Rob Reiner).
How do you make a movie score sound so “ presidential” kudos to the composer and the filming background , you can tell rob Reiner filming the inside of the White House showed President Kennedy’s portrait the most seen, among other portraits of other presidents , thank you mr Reiner he was my favorite president.
I always love when I hear this song play while I’m waiting in line for Soarin’ Over California at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, California.
This is such a beautiful theme song. I've been trying to find words to put it in. With more than a hint of grandeur. Classy, so fitting for a movie called American President. This theme music has been used in various places, I noticed. Thank you for the posting.
I've seen this super fantastic movie [The American President] a number of times and I have always marveled at the excellence of the theme song to the movie. Thank you for posting this beautiful masterpiece to UA-cam. It is such a beautiful melody, I can never hear it enough !
Many thanks PureDanceBiscuit for this gem! Last year just after Obama took office saw this wonderful movie on train from Seattle to Portland, and it really moved me!
@grumpytosnowwhite The reason you think it's related to the West Wing is because it is. When Aaron Sorkin wrote The American President, he had something on the order of 4 or 5 hours of script. When they chopped it down to an acceptable movie length, the "leftovers" became fodder for the Pilot and first few episodes of The West Wing when he pitched it to NBC. It helped that he had this movie as backup on how it could work.
Correct if I'm wrong, but if there is a song out there called "Seed of Grain", then it is a cover of this tune; because Marc Shaiman wrote and composed this piece (and the other instrumental pieces throughout the film) originally for this film. They were then subsequently used for the promotional trailers for Saving Private Ryan and as one of the queuing tunes for Soarin' Over California.
@100rrh Hey, I'm no longer a Republican, but a decent composer who just finished a video using this for opening & closing credits (my first video edting) for a memorial honoring my family's fallen Marines, and have choked-up some 30 times over the past 3 weeks due to this composition. Just beautiful!
Just to clarify, the instrumental version is referred to as "Main Titles from 'The American President'" or "Theme from 'The American President'". Shaiman also produced an orchestral choral version of the song with lyrics. That version is referred to as "A Seed of Grain".
I somehow think that this score it written by Thomas Newman everytime I listen to it. but its not. but the orchestration is very Newman-esque (sounds like Shawshank here and there) - anyway good work by Shaiman!

Yes, you're right. Which confused the hell out of me because when I saw that trailer on youtube the other day I knew that the song a) was not in the actual movie; and b) was from The American President. They could have easily gone with the theme song from SPR in their own trailer but for some reason chose a song that isnt even in the film. makes no sense to me.
It's unfortunate that the reality of the Presidency and the day-to-day politics and governing depart so greatly from the noble concepts that are taught in textbooks.
Today, we finally have Joe Biden elected as 46th president in the 2020 election! Finally Trump will be gone, and eventually one day some day the pandemic will be fought off and wiped out. VICTORY TO BIDEN!
this soundtrack dont work with the film, i can only imagine the first family of jfk and camelot, and those white house years 60-63 when i hear this piece. doesnt fit with any other president, real or not.

Actually, that’s on a different song for this soundtrack in the end.
Finally, I've been trying to find this piece of music since Soarin' Over California.

And that honors been thrown out the window in the last 3 and a half years...
and he did the scores for city slickers and a few good men, ..this one is under rated
Very Copland-esque. Immediately sets the tone that this will be a great American story.
@@colgatecrew good observation :-) ... imo, Copland is the "father of the "American" cinematic sound"

_Saving Private Ryan,_ man.
I used to be young, once. That trailer was great. The song made it, even though the movie was amazing
Yes, This song is also used in the theatrical trailer of Saving Private Ryan
This was also used in Enbergs Moments from the 1996 Summer Olympics with Dick Enberg narrating, amazing as well.
I always love when I hear this song play while I’m waiting in line for Soarin’ Over California at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, California.
Plot aside, I guess this is the ideal American presidency, as a musical piece.
Like John Willians 'JFK 'Theme ...this is a classic and simply beautiful and pleasent on the ears .
A beautiful song for a great movie with a great cast
Oh my gosh those horns at 1:39
They are indeed French Horns!!

It be nice to be back in the mid 90's..... so much more simpler then with clarity....even if Clinton was President..
