I just put my KTM on the trailer to head down to the Tail of the Dragon. Stopped to check my phone and Bam! A new 44teeth review. Perfect timing lads!
I rode my 990 SMT from Montreal, Qc to the dragon via the blue ridge parkway up and down two years ago. It was amazing. Have a nice trip mate !
@@xzistpo If I had the time I would love to do that!
Rode from SF to the Dragon this summer. Good time.
@@thepassionofthegoose5472 Right on!
I’ve ridden from Canada to Deals Gap almost every year for fifteen years . . . alas, not this year. Can’t wait to get back to the Smokies! Ride it smooth and ride it classy.

@@AlienSexGod , SD GT is kinda different bike all together, but if its this group, i would pick it with my eyes closed...😍😍😍
@@AlienSexGod okay. 😊😁
got 60 000 kms on my 1290 still goin strong
Nekminut...jk
Got one in a few weeks time for a week, really looking forward to it now! 🙌
You need it as all your bikes are in bits 🤣. Apart from the h2 of course
Yeah but you said you wouldn't buy one. About fucking time for a SD GT Gen 3 isn't it.......
Getting more and more excited about the Gen3 GT. Both SDR and the SAS get blinding reviews so fingers crossed for the practical version without the off road compromises.
Same. But liking the V.2 GT meanwhile.
There is talk, okay, there is ONE guy who says a friend of his who works at KTM (higher than dealer level) has said there will be no Gen 3 GT. Currently the only place you CANT buy a Gen 2 is in the North American market. I am waiting for official announcement. My '20 GT that I acquired in Jan of 2020 is going strong with 22.5K miles and if the Gen 3 does not come come out I might look at this Super Adventure S...no I probably wont...
Nothing us guaranteed for sure but that wouldn't make sense to me. The GT is a successful model so I don't see what they wouldn't. I think we'll know for sure in the next month or two

Gents thanks for introducing me to RST gear. Getting back on two wheels after about a 5 year hiatus and just ordered some fresh RST what nots. Thanks- a viewer from the US.
That's the hill Allen Millyard went to and met Mossy in his last video!
Snap
Yes I thought that too
Hahaha thought so too, just went back to his video to see if it was these guys he saw lol
Really? would that be under an Allan Millyard channel pls?
@@DaveDayve Yeah it's Allen Millyard's latest video
I'm waiting for the "Yeah but ktm break down" comment.
Between a 990adv and my 1290 sas I've covered ( thrashed)78,000 miles mostly across Europe in the last 4.5
4yrs. Never put a spanner on either.
That’s good to hear, I love these bikes , but you’re right, you hear these comments all the time. Maybe one day, cash allowing!

'Plenty in the tank...sir'
How did I not notice this first watch round! 😂
Simpleh lovleh
Love the AGV helmet Al 👍
and by adventure we mean we put a 19 inch wheel and longer stravel suspension on what basically is a sport touring bike
Breaking news: this bike belongs to the TRAVEL segment in KTM range. Sure, there is the word « Adventure » written on it, ok. But will you get bitter if you don’t find feathers on a « Hayabusa »?
21 degrees is what we consider ideal riding weather in the subcontinent 😜
"With this heatwave we're having, it's 21 degrees"
*Laughs in Australian*

Sydney city traffic on a 40*C day! That’s heatwave! My Ducati’s rear cylinder hard boiled my nuts. It also killed the petrol pump fuse under the tank (above the front cylinder). These poms don’t know heatwaves!
How can you tell when a Plane load of Brits has landed?
The plane is still whining even after the engines have been turned off.
I really like it when you go out and do a real review without someone messing about with you! We get the real review from you as an awesome rider!

Cracking job with that seat
Statham
👍😉😁
Fagan removing the seat's like Jeremy Beadle building IKEA furniture.
Funny
This 4th road-test ive watched of the KTM super adventure s and the best.
It is about my 20th and still the best ;)
I did a double take when you said you were in a "heatwave". 21 or 22 degrees. I live in Australia and a normal summers day is anywhere from 30 to 35 degrees. A heatwave is 40 degrees plus. Last year we had a couple of days of 45 degrees. Now thats hot. Every bike I have ever owned has been hot to ride in summer. Mind you, we think it's cold when it's about 15 degrees. But we can easily ride all year round.
It’s not a bad temperature for April in the uk, but it only lasted 2 days now it’s 10 degrees max.
I've a 2021 vstrom xt (over 9k miles). Rusting aside it's a fantastic bike although the power and grunt for me is hugely missing.
My next purchase is 100% the KTM adventure S. I was wanting the R but after watching the motorbike shows review on the S.... it's VERY capable offroad.
Same here.
👍 Great review
KTM seats always make you feel like you've been to a Micheal Barrymore pool party
lmfao
Judging from the expression on the bike's face it is getting rear-ended by Barrymore.
You won the internet today mate 😂✊🏼
Crying here....
The more tech and gadgets, the more that can go wrong. If you adventure ride solo, dependability is most important. Super Tenere for me.
So would you pick the new Super Adventure or the new BMW 1250 GS Adventure?
I bought one new a year ago but these updates sound very enticing, can't wait for the Multistrada/Super Adventure video lads!
The first time I rode an 1190 SA-R my initial thoughts were bigtime Supermoto with raw power and gnarly feel good factor. The 1290 was a bit softer in comparison. It's good to hear you say the new SAS seems to be going back to the 1190's feel.
“The ultimate Daley Thompson” - Alistair dictionary corner Fagan
Great description 👍🏻
as a 1190S rider but also Ducati owner, I was keen on testing the Multi V4. But then I heard "you can keep your V4". 's what I thought. KTM plays this game best
Just 1:27 into the video and we find out why the bike is such a beast, Its not shortened chassis, Its not the fire breathing 1290cc lump, Its not the 6 axis flux capacitor gubbings!
Underneath all that plastic is a Cyberman!
Hadd a 990, loved it, should a kept it... had an 1190, no comment. Just tested this 1290 adv s... chuffing hell, bloody fan, sodding, tastic. So much better than the 1190....
12:29 why i love Mr Fagan’s reviews
This bike screams quality. Wonderful design.
Great review. Lots of info/impressions delivered in a very listenable style.
Fuel consumption is great, mine does 55mpg and drops to only 53mpg after a day at Thruxton whereas my GSA 1200 TC would drop to 39mpg after a day at Thruxton and average 48mpg
That is great mileage for such a big motor. My Tracer 900 get the same mpg
Same here: on average 4.8l/100km (90% mountain riding)
In Brazil 21 degrees is a cold day lol
Not ridden a 1290 before, no, but I have an 1190. Never heard the bike get a mention on this channel for comparison against anything, I don’t think.
Definitely a hooligan. Thought I’d never replace it but the Africa Twin looks good and with dependable Honda refined I guess?
My galvanised bolts are all corroded on a bike that’s never seen salt and has been pampered it’s whole life. The plastics no longer fit (somehow they’ve shrunk and holes don’t align), the screen was replaced years ago as the standard one made everything worse, the mirror glass rattles - I notice they haven’t changed them of all the things they have!
As much as I like the bike I vowed not to get another KTM but this has me tempted.
Solved the seat comfort problem by fitting an Airhawk. KTM should make an integrated air cushion standard for touring bike seats.
Loving the new AGV helmet design 👍👍
Loving the videos lads keep up the good work
Still loving the 990 adventure
Fancy Boi.. Still have my 950.
Still on the 990adv here as well
Still loving my 1190R....
“There’s plenty in the tank, sir”😂😂😂
I live in the US. Can't get a S until next year. Will be worth the wait.
awesome vid!
can we see a mid range sports tourer? I can't wait for the new Yamaha tracer 9 GT to drop in AUS. that is also meant to be 90% new.
been waiting to hear about reliability issues resolved and shoddy welds addressed
they come standard 10 years and counting , tell ya one thing have good fire alarms in your garage with those sketchy wiring harnesses . Burn your house down that manufacturer !
Another cracking review Al spot on!
Plenty in the tank sir. Be seeing you 👌🏼

Nice straight lines.
"Its got more toys than a Toys R Us store" maybe isn't the best reference to use nowadays Mr Fagan
Ha I thought that. Mostly empty, just a few Geoffrey Giraffes
@@5tevieb954 😆
I think the "off road adventure" segment was where Allen Millyard recently turned up uninvited with his son on a straight 6 cylinder Kawasaki Z1 and a 5 cylinder KH 2 stroke.
Mmm, adventure bikes hey...
So, the difference between the S and R could be further blurred by changing out to either more road or more off road biased tires?? I really like the black/orange color option on the S version. I wish the R version had the same color options.
I have an 'old' 2020 and have pulled away in 3rd and once in 4th without any difficulty.
High praise, indeed, bearing in mind how impressed you were with the V4 multistrada. However, like many a tester, you're not putting your money on the line for what would be most people's sole motorcycle. It's one thing pissing around on one for lolz and quite another wondering when it's going to be at the dealers putting something right.
What puts me off this is a) Reliability ( a Swiss army knife of a bike has to be as reliable as a...well...Swiss army knife.) Would you have one of these as your only bike? Those TFT's like misting up across the range in KTM, and watching the MCN long term review of the Super Duke, and it's myriad of issues, yeah naw. b) Lack of colour schemes and KTM's styling theme. What if you hate orange? c) Build quality. It's cheaper than the GS or Multistrada for a good reason.
Three years ago, I couldn’t make my mind between the SDR and the SAS. I kid you not. Then your video was published on the SAS (at least YOU didn’t crash it 😏) and I ended up buying it and it has been formidable. Today, I find myself in front of the same dilemma. This vid doesn’t help. Or maybe it does. I’m dying to hear what « daddy » has to say about is, as well.
Also, at 15:00: you’d be surprised to know how many times I found myself lost by my GPS, with the option of taking a small offroadish trail (the kind even you Brits wouldn’t dare to call a B road), and I took it. Because I could. And that was fun, and fast. And a few tractors were left in disbelief.
Love from France.
Whats bonkers for me is that I get 60mpg on a motorway run, and 48 to 50mpg when being an arsehole.
Crazy MPG for the power of it.
Hey Al, nice ride review - sounded very honest. Looking forward to a 3 bike show-down comparison video of the 2021 KTM 1290 SAS with the new Multi 4S and grand daddy GS1250 (not A). Much love & respect from NZ.
Future video idea - what it's like to own and live with these kinds of bikes in the long term. All the journos dish out the press release (ex-Journo myself) and the spec sheet kerfuffle. It would be good to see some real-world experiences with your style of reviews.
Impressive bit of kit. I think I prefer the look of the Multistrada though, the SAS is a bit sensible looking for a KTM
LOVE this review.
Great video bro. I'm sure the bike is awesome but i would prefer the Tiger 1200 but that's preference. I have the feeling that KTM is a better bike. Also,1.29 for petrol...That was the good days
I love my GSA, but I’d never get it if I wasn’t doing 50% off-road. There are much more exciting bikes if you’re only doing on-road riding or you’re just doing the odd bit of gravel.
Nice one, Nige 🤙 Be good to see you fling it round a track!
Yer I've gone absolutely nuts in the last few years.
I am blooding buying it. Thanks 44T!
Aaay, combe gibbet! I thought the area from Wantage onwards looked very familiar! Lovely roads between Wantage and Newbury, some decent bends and just fields either side.
Did you bump into Mossy and Allen Millyard up that hill by any chance?
This is much better than the Busa launch. No pathetic excuses or half pint bike - just proper development and here's the keys.
Top job and I'm going to beek a test ride when they can because this might be what I get instead of the Busa.
Already have a dodgy build saftey recall , annually consistent that brand in the three colours for recalls
Got one now and it was this review that started it for me. He’s right, it’s blinding.
That’s a nice big screen, but this is a question to anyone who knows: For simple maintenance (IE: oil change) is it necessary to own a special code reader or have a dealership turn off the great big screen’s “service” notification?
I never found my Gen 2 1290 SDR engine or gearbox rough or lumpy - engine was smooth and tractable at low speed/revs and almost any gear; the gearbox was positive and really slick with the quickshifter/autoblipper...but if they are both now even better I think I'd better buy another :)
KTM just opened a dealership in my country, i have never met anyone who owns one yet. What sort of issues (even if minor) did you encounter with yours? Both short and long term. Thanks
@@YaGhAd I never had any problems with my Super Duke R.
Looks a proper weapon! Got a bit of germanic influence to the ol’ gal! My XR is looking dated already.
Thought I was going to have to put up with Mr Mann’s (still pretty good) review!
Statham looking trim and on point too ☺️.
Speed wobbles at high speed like old one?
UA-cam compression is getting ridiculous. Can’t even read the freaking dash.
Awesome. Hope KTM throw all the toys at the R, Not just the limited Addition RR.
Oh man this thing looks tempting. I might start putting on some major miles the next few years and this could be my next machine. Currently on a 17 fz/mt09 and was thinking next bike id want something more practical, with wind protection, more torque and after riding my buddies ftr1200, I suddenly understand the appeal of V twins. This seems to check everyone of those boxes.
Ive also considered the GT version but really struggled to get over its appearance 🤮
Orange is the new black.....gotta love a KTM
Maybe it’s partly due to the new sensor up front, but I can’t not see Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” when looking at the front 😅Awesome tech for sure, but just as we saw in the auto industry when screen tablets and radar sensors were first being implemented, the design took second fiddle. Likely in due time we’ll start to see more cohesive designs incorporating the tech but haha ya, for now...what can ya do.
If it's anything like the gen2/3 SDR. You can't go wrong.
Hilarious! Rambling about the controls and ends with, "all the controls, everything controls". I love this guy, he's so funny. Please review the "1290 Super Duke GT". :0)
I'm disappointed that nobody(?) includes 2-up performance and comfort for these reviews.
Particularly whether the suspension can gracefully handle 2 people + luggage on over some rocks & ruts.
I don't think I would bother to own an adv over 1000cc if not for taking my wife on trips, it's important to me.
Great review and even on roads I'm very familiar with, I won't say it made me buy one because I've already ordered it and collecting in 3 days!! But it has helped me justify the spend :-)
too tempting to replace my 1190 with this, damn you!
Did you see Alan Milliyard up at the tip of the hill, on his post, he met up with some KTM riders so thought it maybe you lot
Yes. It was Mossy 😆
Any idea when you're going to do the MSV4S vs SA1290S back-to-back?
I'm hankering after the GTv3,0, but all these videos of the SAS have got me thinking about one of these instead.
So which is better on the road, this or the GT?
Great vid as usual guys, looking forward to swinging a leg over one
For comfort and mile munching what's better the adventure s or the duke gt? 2021
Am i the only one who is missing the good ''old'' 1190 and 1090 models? ✌😎
Those were good bikes but the 1290 is that much better.
@@kugangles9860 Of course do not get me wrong here! Just missed that actual mid-class adventure, from 890 up to 1290 I feel there is a gap 😎
@@Ang3losM I bought a new 1090 last year. It's no mystery to me why they had to leave that gap there in the line up.
What about the 990? Legendary bike
@@roelfkromhout Need to admit where you leave, like what type of riding you are doing, of course i need to mention i leave in Cyprus, where 2-3 hours i can be on the other side of country, and also is typically summer all year around that means, motorcycle is a daily commute. I can see your point of view but i can also see many situations where a 1090 or 1190 can fit perfectly. One main point is also price, 18K euro is a lot, where if i can get some overkill electronics out and a bit of less power a more approachable budget should fit 😎
Great review. Looks like a super fun bike but that starter button looks really flimsy. Got my demo booked for Thursday. 😁
OK, OK... but can it do like longer trips and stuff without breaking down?
@14:30 Hey didn't Allen Millyard meet Mossy up there on Z1 Super Six? It's good to see a KTM Super ADV can make it there too :)
Lol, yep this ain't no ordinary adventure.... you'll have SUPER adventures..
Great review Al. My 2015 is still going strong at 39k miles. Add the Rottweiler intake PCV exhaust and it makes it very hard to keep the front wheel down. Smiles for miles and a touring machine
KTM just opened a dealership in my country, i have never met anyone who owns one yet. What sort of issues (even if minor) did you encounter with yours? Both short and long term. Thanks
Wonder who Mossy was doing his review for then if not 44T
So there is no need for the 1290gt any more?
I'm 6' tall, would I need a taller screen?
Possible to lower seat and suspension enough ton reach 32 inch seat height? I'm 5'6 and 5'8 with boots. Thanks
I bought and fitted a new oven today----fitting it hardwired was pretty straightforward, but for the life of me - working out how the thing works has stumped me, even WITH the Zanussi Manual. Somehow I don't think this new KTM is for me, I'll stick to my XT660. It does all I want and more, and it is not over complicated.
Many say that, but all u need to know is brakes, gears, throttle, ignition. Like any bike. Technology scares people. It needn't. To ride u only need the same basic instinct.
Just need some decent KTM dealers now!!!
good to know, sort of, that it's not just Asia that has shit KTM dealers (and service)
So it’s an adventure bike with a uncomfortable seat and poor fuel range !.why not just have the super duke r then?( btw nice filming)
Please do the 790 or 890 inc off road!
This vs Multistrada V4? Thanks!
