I remember seeing the Marvel 1602 comics being released when I was younger, hanging out at my local comic shop. Back then, I flipped through one and it was not for my mid-teenage self. I haven't giving that comic a second thought since then until now. After this episode, I am going to have to check it out. This is why I love Back Issues, I get to have fun watching friends talk about comics and get to learn about books that I would have never giving a second thought. I really cannot say thank you all enough.

PERFECT, this is the story that made me really go out & check out the Marvel Heroes, my dad raised me on X-men, but when I found that book in my local library, it made me go out & check out as much classic Marvel as possible This thing is like Flashpoint meets Shakespeare, but actually good

The amount of restraint to not do a "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" joke for every Magneto part of this story is admirable. Especially consider Ben was on the couch, luckily he had his mind focused on Codpieces. 😉

I remember this was the story which introduced me to Purple Man. For those who don’t know the president for life is often theorized to be Purple Man and I remember looking him up and realizing just how dangerous someone like that can be and being horrified.

Oh wow, you don't know how long I have been waiting for this. I bought all of 1602 in single issues for a dollar (I got the last one for free) at my local comic book shop and I love 1602 so much and it was one of the first early marvel stuff I read.

So that thing about the gift the watcher is given may be a nod to Terry Pratchett, as that's how the Discworld book Mort ends, and I know the two of them have worked together
1602 is one of my favourite AUs for the marvel universe because it holds such a reverence for Marvel Comics. Stuff like the Matt murdock natasha teaming up, the 4 of the fantastick and the witchbreeds are suck interesting alternative interpretations
Great video, but Wotun is not Odin. Odin is introduced later on as the mayor of a small town, and father of Angela, the Witch Hunter. (Even though it's not by Gaiman, Witch Hunter Angela is IMO one of the best add-ons to this series.)
Thanks! Gaiman absolutely meant for it to be Odin, because Wotan is another name for Odin. But writers later on didn't care what was set up in the original version.
