Thank you! That would be great! I am very fortunate to work at a dealership with access to these wonderful vehicles, so I can make videos to help out clients and everyone else.
If you start the engine, put on your seatbelt, go into first gear or Drive in case of AT, start accelerating the car as you would want to set in motion and the parking break will disengage by itself. That's why it's called Auto Parking Break. I own a Mada 3 sedan 2019 model.
Thanks for sharing! Another viewer already mentioned the seatbelt. I guess I told on myself and my bad habits of not putting on the seatbelt to drive around the car lot. Enjoy your Mazda3! Thanks for watching.
I have a CX-30 and if you lightly touch the accelerator the automatic parking brake it will disengage when put from park to D and i don't have to use the parking brake switch but the driver has to have their seat belt on for it to auto disengage that way.
My uk cx30 is my first car with auto handbrake and i wasnt sure how i would take to it but i did immediately and its so easy to use and the option of manually or auto setting up is far better.
Is there a way to disable the Mazda3 from going into the electronic parking brake every time? Also, I remember in the past it was recommended not to turn on the parking brake all the time in sub-zero weather. I assume this is not the case with this system, correct?
mrBlassphemy I am not aware of a way to disable the parking brake. I don’t have any experience with sub-zero temperatures. I would assume that it’s okay for all temperatures.
I've never heard about the sub-zero weather thing. I have always engaged my parking brake every time no matter what weather we get in the midwest. You should be fine.
@@TomZ23 I'm from Virginia, and I never heard of that happening to anyone I know. However, my mom (who grew up in NY) swears there were times when she was younger that they'd have to wait till the engine warmed up to release the e-brake. So she was taught to just park in gear.
1:40 Yes, it IS big deal, because I'm used to an old fashion handbrake, that I pull up, or down. I forget to press all those keys and tecnoilogyc stuff all the time.
As you saw, the car doesn't allow you to move withouth having the seatbelt on. Now try doing it with the parking break on and you will see that it will auto disengage for you.
Yep, I know what you mean. I put my car in the garage at night. In the morning the brake is on, but I need to the seat belt on before it will let me reverse out. Then I undo the seatbelt and get out to close the garage door! Pain in the bum
Can you show with stick shift how to operate For example on a hill. Will it hold even when I have my foot on the break and clutch? I’m old school. Thanks
The 2020 Mazda CX-30 doesn't seem to auto disengage. At least in reverse I am sure. Seat belt or no seat belt. And what about valet or garage parking attendants they don't always wear seat belts? My dealer only pointed it out after my purchase and mentioned he hates it as well.
With seatbelt on, the brake releases when you press the accelerator in gear. I don’t like this feature, because I often am not wearing a seatbelt when moving cars around the lot. However, it will not do any damage if not heavily accelerating before release.
Hi, while driving my Mazda3 at normal speed around 25 km/hr I accidentally pressed P button, I did hear some brake sound for seconds. Does it going to damage something....????
Does the e brake automatically disable under certain conditions? I would know to disengage it with the button but if someone else doesn't know about it - I'm worried it'll damage the car.
It automatically disengages when your seatbelt is on, put it in Drive, and tap the accelerator pedal. It won’t go anywhere while the brake is engaged, so won’t damage the vehicle.
@@JSS So do you ever need to manually disengage it? I've had my 3 for a few days now and I've just been tapping the gas and letting it happen automatically every time.
It won’t do any damage if you are just slightly accelerating. If you intentionally stomp on it or rev the engine high when engaged, it could do some over time.
I would like to not have to release the parking brake every time I start the car. It isn't necessary most of the time. If I think I need to, I will pull up on the parking break. I'm sure there must be a way to remove the auto parking brake from my start-up routine. Can you help me disable that auto feature?
You can’t permanently disable it. However, when your seatbelt is on, you can press the throttle to release the brake. It’s frustrating for me because I don’t typically wear seatbelts when moving cars around the car lot.
@@JSS Thanks. I typically buckle as I'm backing out of my driveway in order to save time. I am now getting use to starting the CX-30 and immediately pushing the emergency brake lever.
Thanks Jonathan for great video. I'm on the other side of the pond doing the right hand drive, so brake controls will be left handed. Think Mazda could improve it by making the controls easier to find physically and NOT putting any LED on them, as you should never be looking down. It's the future though so I need to go for a test drive. Think it will be ok with Mazda's lovely hydraulic Asin Autobox. I'm not so sure about it all in a manual pudding stirrer as I don't yet have three legs (my traditional preference is to left foot brake an auto when I get to the "getting ready to go" point.). Thanks again for a great video.
It is possible this could be an example of over engineering since simply putting the parking brake on would accomplish the same thing. At the least there should be a way to permanently disengage auto hold for those who don't want it. Just my experience but keep making everything overly complicated, people like that, it will help your sales.
I understand what you’re saying. The Auto hold however is only active when turned on. The electronic parking brake is automatic and cannot be turned off.
Is there a way to stop the electronic parking brake from engaging automatically once you're parked up? I know that technically you're not supposed to rely on the parking pawl in the transmission, but I will be parking my 3 up for a few weeks at the airport and dont want the rear pads welded to the discs by rust. Or does the extra pressure from the electric brake make this less of an issue?
I find that parking break to be highly annoying. It’s an automatic car ... why is it there? I think our Toyota CHR actually does the same thing but when you put the car in drive it just goes, and when you park you can feel the car auto lock down- no button/control needed. There is literally no need for that control and it’s a bit confusing when you first get the car, but I see people have addressed this, I’ll make sure the seatbelt is buckled before putting it in drive and see.
It was first a problem for me because I don’t often buckle my seat belt to move vehicles around the dealership parking lot. I got hung up all the time. However driving it regularly with a seatbelt would be smooth operation.
Okay, while it's a nice safety feature that EPB won't release until you have your seatbelt on, here's where it's annoying: moving the car out of the garage and onto the driveway (to wash the car, load it, etc.), then back into the garage when the chores are done. Even though I'm not actually driving anywhere, this feature won't let me move the car---even by a few feet, unless I put the seatbelt on...every single time!
Isn't kind of funny. This great new feature and nobody likes it....I thought car companies listened to their customers but not on this one obviously. This Isn't a Maxda thing all the car companies are fitting these things and ditching the simple mechanical ones that everyone understands, can use and hardly ever goes wrong. LOL.
I've had my 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback for 2.5 months and just noticed the auto hold button today. My question is, how does this work if another vehicle rear ends you while your vehicle is in auto hold? Does it function like brakes or will the vehicle move forward and crash into whatever is in front of you?
Mountain Climber This feature is not designed for that purpose. The Auto Hold uses the electronic parking brake as a convenience to not have to manually hold the brake on inclines or prolonged stops. The parking brake is designed to hold only the weight of the car. It is not intended to prevent sliding when something exerts force on the car. So I’m the event you have auto hold or the parking brake engaged and are rear ended you will move forward and be susceptible to impact ahead of you. Please be safe! Enjoy your amazing vehicle. Thank you for watching!
I have never ever used a braking brake in my life. I had a stroke and is not able to use my right hand. New cars are so overcomplicated with complete crap that the average person is never ever, ever, going to use. I guess I will be driving my cx-30 forever.
The EPB is a royal pain in the neck. If you pull into your garage, it will always set and you have to remember to always disengage it before reversing out of your garage. No way to disable this annoying "feature".
