I wouldn't call this "fine art" I'd call his restoration amazing. I could buy the same 19th ce home altar bought on the way to pilgrimage in good condition for under $600 dollars.
first of all Bible says Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: ------------------------ to go to heaven, you must repent your sins and ask the God for forgiveness, born again, and faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior.
it always amazes me when that dirty surface layer comes off and it's like oh what that painting wasn't supposed to be 50 shades of brown? so satisfying..
You'd be shocked how many old paintings have a thick layer of smoke covering them from centuries of candles and oil lamps and fires in fireplaces burning.
Absolutely outstanding work, yet again. However, the one thing I wish you would put in the description, its how old the pieces that you work on are. Even an estimated age. “Estimated to have been painted in 1650-1660” etc. As one of the most fascinating thing about watching you work, is seeing the finished product resembling how it once would of looked to those people that lived long ago in a different age. Its almost like time travelling in a way!
Google is only going to be able to provide information for famous and well-documented works. A work like this, with an extremely common title like “Ave Maria,” and one that is also evidently poorly documented, isn’t going to get you any specific answers. This painting seems to have been done in the medieval time period, considering the less realistic, religious content based, and idolistic nature of the piece. Google isn’t omnipotent; the information on the database has to come from someone, so if no one had ever taken the time to document this piece and put it on the internet, google won’t help you.
How is it "giving up" in any way? He just realized from feedback that a lot of people like his videos for the ASMR aspect as well so he's making a separate version with no voice on top of the video. I think we should thank him for embracing the ASMR fanbase.
If I saw that painting I'd probably think it's irreparable. You're a genius! Authors of paintings you fixed, wherever they're now, they should be thankful for your help with making them proud again of their masterpieces. I'm truly moved.
You'd definitely have to pay the restorer more than what this painting was worth. This looks to be a generic roadside bought painting people sold in route to pilgrimage sites that was thrown in a barn to rot. It looks much older than it actually is.
theres a lot of debate on if they should restore the mona lisa actually ! the whole thing is basically painted in thin glazes so cleaning it could strip a lot of the paint away
Its fresco over wood, so not exactly the most stable of materials. Humidity and temperature can do a lot to degrade them over time, plus candles and incense cover them in soot. My dad had a similar one custom made for our family back in Romania in the mid 80s, dont ask how many paychecks it cost lol. The base did break off when we moved to America, despite careful packing. We glued it back on, and some of the fresco has chipped or fallen over the years.
This is one where the piece only has significant value to the restorer. This is unnamed religious folk art. It looks 19th century Mexican in origin and used as a home altar than put in a barn. I would expect to pay a couple hundred bucks for this at an antique shop in Mexico.

Time gradually destroys and damages your artwork no matter how careful you are. Varnishes crack and darken, paints flake, wood cracks and bends.
