adding a positive information... it uses a 5 gear automatic transmission made by Jatco, a japanese company owned by Nissan. Same transmission is used on many Nissan, Infinity and also some Subaru. Goog quality transmission!!
I've had three of these, a 3.5L petrol and two of the 2.5L turbo diesels. I've used them harder than most and broken one offroad, spiked the radiator, gummed up the water pump with the bars leaks product I used to limp back to civilization and the pump sized on a foggy, rainy night on a very sketchy road while I was paying more attention to not falling off a mountain than my instrument cluster trying to show me I was overheating. All mine have been part time 4WD, RW drive in 2wd, then 4hi and 4 lo. Love the diesel version. Enough bottom end torque in low range to pull a fat girl off a cake. From experience though, if you're going to own one long term, get an audible temperature alarm and an oil pressure gauge. Temp alarm would have saved me cooking my second one, oil pressure gauge could have told me earlier I had sooty oil that clogging my oil pickup and failing to lubricate the engine efficiently before it seized in my one that's just been rebuilt. Change the Crdi's injector rings every 40,000km or else. Those little copper washers are much cheaper than a rebuild, and that's the main cause of failure over time in these engines.
Is that switcher a plug and play feature? Or does it requires some wiring work for making it fully functional? Can you make a video on how to install it?

Quick question if i may, just got a 2009 modle that has the two position 4x4 switch, can i get the alternative one from Kia or go to a scrap yard or something? Does it have a name please so i know what to ask for, ty in advance
Bought mine to replace my 2006 Ford Freestyle that someone totalled. It's a 2003 Kia Sorento. The 4x4 system is 2 High, 4Low, and 4High. The 3.5 liter V6 engine gives about 192 hp @ 5300rpms which is not bad, reminds me of the old 67 Ford Broncos, or International Scouts, Willie's Jeeps, and also Nissan Patrols. So definitely love that about the Sorento.
Just got an 04 ex, has the locking rear end, my 4wd doesn’t work currently as it has a major air leak somewhere that I can hear and haven’t looked into, my brake light on the driver side won’t work though, no idea why.
I've never heard of a rear locker on the Sorentos. I know the 2003-4 had Limited Slip Differential. The problem with old cars in general is that things go wrong, it's not just the brand or model. If it's done a lot of KMS, it's just a case of having an annual budget per year to keep it on the road.

Hola Rodrigo. No sé si estás en el Grupo Sorento España de Whatsapp o no. Si eres manitas, puedes instalarlo tú, sino la mayoría de los talleres podrían hacerlo. My 2006 KIA Sorento has been great! 123K miles.
I have 2010 Kia Borrego with over 250K on it, still going great, excellent SUV.
Same car. Different name!!!!!
Its not the same the borrego doesn't have a solid axle at the back, and i think it uses a torsen diff. @easy4x4
Thanks for the video, how did you do the upgrade on 4x4 switch? Just a switch replacement or there is more parts to replace?
You have to change the wiring as well. Most DIY minded people can do it themselves, so I used a mechanic!!
