Technically the dev time was a little over 3 years. If you look at the 2019 dev screenshots the game looked like roblox. The game needed more time. It's not so easy to make AAA games anymore and game companies don't seem to understand that. I just wish they gave the devs the time to fully realise their vision before pushing it out the door. Also I disagree that infinite's sandbox isn't balanced.

I respectfully agree and disagree. The plans for Halo Infinite and its genre were decided after Halo 5s release in 2015. From there it has been gross mismanagement allowing time to be scrapped. The vision was not clear enough at the time so many groups were working on many different parts of Infinite to tie together later.
Only they were unable to tie them in the end. If it took from 2015-2019 to make a roblox demo then there is something very wrong, and I dont think that deserves any excuses. If they had to scrap everything and try again, that doesn't deserve an excuse either after 3 years. I dont see any reasons a AAA game should be any more difficult than it used to be either? Sure, I agree it could be. We are capable of making more intricate hard to develop games, but its not like Halo Infinite has revolutionary gameplay. Many games had more and better built in less time with less funds both back then and now. AAA games aren't more difficult to produce really, 343 and Microsoft just fumbled Halo three games in a row.
I do however agree the game needed more time and it could have been (still can be) an incredible game. The problem is the years of the total 10 we will be wasting getting this to launch quality. Because without having to waste those years had it released at "launch quality", this game might still have millions of active players. I think the game was mostly rushed by Microsoft, but mismanaged by 343.

@@Soulstace I think that the argument that because Infinite went through mutliple iterations before settling on a final vision is a bad thing. Almost every game goes through that process and rarely any game comes out the way it was envisioned. A recent example of this would have to be DOOM (2016). The original vision was a more military focused game that all of it's development scrapped before beginning anew. Half life 2 had almost entire campaign's worth of content scrapped because the vision for the game changed. Hell the Halo franchise went through the same thing with CE. The game had so many iterations it's hard to count, from an rts, to a third person shooter, to an open world game before settling on a final vision.
This happens all the time when making games. The visions change, they always do, so saying that this is inexcusable is dumb.
As for the argument that games aren't harder, I believer that is false. We the people tend to take the games we play for granted and almost never appreciate the finer details in them or thing about the time it took to make the. Decades ago you could slap 10 polygons together, say it's a gun and people would believe you. Nowadays AAA devs have to make sure that every detail of their game is polished. You can no longer just make games as easily now. It takes a lot of effort to make these high quality assets and a lot of money as a consequence. People never stop to think about the amount of time it takes to make and polish these assets and just take them for granted. People except games to look better and perform better but don't understand that doing so takes time.
You need entire teams of people working together just to make single assets and quality comes at a cost.
If there is one thing I can probably say I agree on is that 343 might have a mismanagement problem. And that isn't a problem that is present just at 343 but in the whole industry in general. Employees are treated as assets and not people. The thing that Bungie did right was that they treated employees as people. People were allowed to involves themselves in matters that didn't directly involved them. Marty O'Donnel himself said that at Bungie they didn't have just a music guy, or just a level design guy. Everyone in the studio was free to give their own input which helped shape the games into what they are.
I don't think that 343 ARE INCOMPETENT or 343 HATE HALO or 343 FUCKED MY WIFE as some of the more dramatic people in the community have said. I genuinely believe 343 are really talented and capable devs held back by their industry and corporate greed. They have shown that they can make a good game and I believe that if given the time and creative liberty they could make something great. And even in the state that infinite is right, lack of content and desync and all it's still has one of my favorite campaigns, probably top 4 below CE, 2 and 4 and my second favorite multiplayer below 3 and if did have the same amount of maps and modes as 3 or reach I'd probably my #1 multiplayer.
Regardless while I do disagree with you on some of your arguments I do believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I think your video was still really entertaining and well-put together.

@@sargeantBones I did not mean to imply that having iterations of the game or changes from an initial vision is inexcusable, rather that most other games tend to complete the process to a final product relatively much more quickly. All that ultimately to point to our agreed upon mismanagement issue.
I think games aren't harder to make because the bar is lower than ever in 2022 for what is acceptable as a "launch quality" title. The modern gaming development meta promotes early-access and open betas. Release now, update later mentalities. I believe that is the trap Halo Infinite has found itself in, and why it released with so little content. Halo Infinites graphics in my opinion are not so much better than older games that they should have cost so much more time and money.
I truly whole heartedly agree that 343 is full of really talented, capable, and creative people held back from their true potential. The industry is even more corporate and greedy than it ever has been before. Things will never be as easy as it was in Bungie's Reclaimer Era games. My real disappointment is simply that the game is a fraction of what it could have been without that corporate overreach. There was a big opportunity for Halo to return to scene and a lot of eyes on it. Many of those lost may never return and Halo may forever stay niche because of it.
I respect your opinion, and am really happy you enjoyed the video. Thanks for having a respectful back and forth :) rare enough especially around halo controversy lately
