Halo: CE had some crazy good AI for the time I think. The fact the ai would dodge, take cover, flank, surround and even rush you. The way the grenades would blow up even while on the ground which allowed for those massive hallway clearing explosions. The way you could sneak past enemies if they don't actually see you. This game was so damn amazing lol and personally I prefer the original graphics because of the tone they show off.
Yea, AI had largely been terrible escort missions previously, the fact a marine would run away from you if stickied, or drive vehicles in an open space(marines could drive ghosts), was absolutely insane. I'm not sure if any other comments have mentioned, but the first level of the game changes in several ways at higher difficulties. One change is the removal of a tutorial moment for the one feature that's not easy to intuit, which is that meleeing any enemy in the back will kill them instantaneously (save for the Hunters). Even shielded Elites. Also a decent amount of lore was in the manual that was included with the game. It was actually a really nicely made manual, you can find it online if interested. Welcome to Halo!
AHHHHH DOPAMINE HAPPINESS HAS BEEN ACHIEVED LETS FUCKIN GOOOO Edit: also im only like 10 mins in rn, but watching the learning and understanding as he goes is so awesome, cant wait to see how much he has improved by the end!
First video of yours I’ve seen and must say I enjoyed it a lot. For your halo 2 play through, if you haven’t already, play it on the new graphics, because they are genuinely stunning, proper movie quality. ONE REALLY IMPORTANT THING: At the start of Halo 2 on MCC there is an extra cutscene that was added post as an ad for Halo 5, SKIP IT, it spoils a fairly major plot point. The first cut scene of Halo 2 proper is an establishing wide shot of the Halo CE ring and I’ll say no more than that. Also, if you are playing it on Legendary, from a long time Halo player, good luck.
As someone who is actually about to undertake this same journey with a friend of mine who has never played the series, I am happy to see more people continuously getting to experience the amazing work that went into the first batch of games.
@@mythicknz8203 We've actually been swapping back and forth so he can see the comparisons. We made it halfway through in our first session, and one terminal was clicked by mistake, but we just skipped it and then paid more attention when prompts appeared. So far he thinks that if it werent for me, he likely wouldn't have the patience to power through certain areas, but we are going through them all on heroic per my suggestion, since i have done legendary on all the games and playing normal is just boring now. He seems to be looking forward to 2 and Reach the most though, so maybe he'll like those more.
I like how 343 just effing puts spoiler cutscenes in a game where's it's impact is very dependent on your lack of knowledge about the Universe. Imagine being Bungie, meticulously creating a story with a massive twist and the impact of that twist being VERY dependent on the player not having any knowledge of the universe's lore only for a company who was appointed caretaker of your legacy, (who willingly named themselves after one of the main bad guys in the series) to absolutely just ruin the reveal by putting in spoilers in the game. 343 is truly one of the devs of all time.
I prefer the OG but there are some cool areas in the new graphics. The real problem with the new graphics imo is the handful of collision/geometry issues some of which you ran into yourself. Feels janky flying into invisible cliffsides or getting shot around corners cause the new level geometry doesn't match the old. I still really appreciate that they keep both and let you switch at the press of a button even during cutscenes.
30 minutes in and very enjoyable to watch, some people dont care about saving marines but i put a lot of effort into it so that makes it even better to watch as you also do.
I have not watched yet but I really hope you enjoy the series! I can already assure you that if you do, there will be millions of requests for cursed halo
I'm sorry but that final section of keyes had me laughing hysterically, fell out of my chair and couldn't breathe. The combination of terrible checkpoint, and the sheer stubbornness to get through the hard way was chef's kiss. Like and subscribe was earned there.
As someone who had older brothers who loved Halo, it's really interesting to see someone with a similar gaming mindset to play through it for the first time. Gonna watch this tonight and drink everytime you're mildly annoyed by something (i hope it's as much as i was my first time)
Halo has been a staple in my life since I was like 4 or 5. Sitting on my grandpas lap while he let me control the mouse and he used the keyboard. I absolutely love that you’ve made halo content. Seriously my favorite UA-camr plus my favorite game, thanks sour ❤
Awesome to see you start the Halo journey! It's easily one of my favorite game franchises! And yeah, the graphics debate is almost entirely around the blatant failure to capture the mood and the overdetail which is actually a point of contention just because it makes the subtle storytelling they put in the game virtually impossible to notice. As someone who has watched a lot of first time reactions it absolutely does impact people's first impression of the flood though, similar to you most who use the new graphics find the flood far less creepy and kinda funny, hence why folks hate the new graphics especially on that level. Halo 2's anniversary graphics are phenomenal though, so absolutely use those!
I enjoyed watching this and the Halo 2 playthrough. You've got to be a pretty good gamer to be able to go in blind and not have the resulting video be painful. Good job.
this is my first video i've watched from your channel and was very entertained binging this for almost 4 hours and i'm stoked for you to play halo 2 it just gets better in pretty much every way and also you can play the 2nd one with remastered graphics its generally agreed upon that its better halo ce is just the tip of the iceberg and hope you continue playing the rest soon
this is a badass playthrough, props to you haha. The next few games get soo good story and gameplay wise. Legendary is quite a beast to tackle solo if you continue it so youll definitely have the challenge. cant wait to see you play the next games!
Dude the part on truth and reconciliation where you go into the ship and enemies are attacking from all directions is for sure the hardest part in the game and seasoned veterans have died many times there. The enemy spawns are completely random so you can potentially get a gold sword elite on every wave and they are all really aggressive. Doing that on LASO...it starts to hurt after a while.
LASO can be grueling in that room but regular legendary is trivially easy once you learn to watch the motion tracker and pre-nade the doors so you can move in and clear it - then grab more nades and fresh plasma pistol and nade the next door. I can't overstate how much easier it gets when you're aggressive.
That was a blast to watch you learn about my favorite FPS series of all time! This was a fantastic video and I hope you want to keep playing through the series! All the unanswered questions always made the game more mysterious when I was a kid.
First video watching your channel. It's so good! ❤ I'm a Diehard HALO fanboy, and I can say I absolutely enjoyed seeing you learn and discover all the nuances and unique quirks of HALO's gameplay, from the shields to the Banshee's alternate bomb attack! I also completely understand your position about the graphics as you're coming from a non-nostalgic point of view. All in all, I hope you enjoyed a game that is very near and dear to my heart, and I can't wait for you to try remastered HALO 2!!! 🤩🤩
WHAT?!?! I didn't expect this one, but I'm SO freaking excited to watch this!!! Halo is amazing ❤️😱❤️ (That "Not a natural formation" cave still stands out a ton in original graphics, it's become a meme line in the community lol)
I really enjoyed watching and listening to you play Halo! I've played it since the start and it's my favorite thing to see someone discover something I love so much! Thanks for the video!
Sour, I know you feel pigeonholed into producing a ton of COD content since it's what you're known for. I had no idea you played Destiny on your downtime, and it's mind-blowing that you're a fan of Destiny but never played Halo. I played Combat Evolved on my Dad's computer when I was 8. I have played it so many times and know the game so, so well. Watching you fumble through for the first time is spectacular, and I'm so glad you're doing it. For my nostalgia and your blind experience. Thank you for this playthrough. I promise to comment and "like" on any future Halo game you play!
wonderful to watch this, It's always a treat seeing someone play these for the first time again after being someone that has played them for 23 years now, Once ya hit Halo2 legendary is alot harder then the first one haha.
Thanks for that little mini diversion into the classic vs new graphics debate as it was fun to see your thought process. As someone who played Halo on release and has owned every mainline game in the Bungie canon I am glad you picked the one you liked best. Halo is an awesome game but someone playing it on original graphics today will not have the same experience as someone playing it on release. I think the blind part of a blind play is way more important than playing it what some might consider the "right way" to play. It's been a blast soo far and I hope you continue the series and you definitely got a sub from me :)
Aye, Combined Assault's the one I favor the most. Kinda got a bug where Killjoy gets pissed and shoots at you for no reason during one of the Instant Action missions on the map where it's an urban blackout at night traversing narrow alleyways and optional sewer side path.
It's an absolute joy to see you play Halo for the first time. It's very different from MoH and CoD but maybe there are similar game design choices or rhythms that feel familiar to you after playing all those old games haha
Awesome video my man! Really enjoyed watching you play. And boy did those classic graphics bring back some good memories. And no you didn't "ruin" the playthrough by playing on the remastered graphics for me at least
Took the Library like a champ for a first time player, on Legendary no less. Halo 2 Legendary is going to be a gauntlet (a very pretty gauntlet) but once you're through that you're gonna blast through 3 and Reach. Already looking forward to the next one!
Watching the cutscene where Jenkins and Keyes get attacked by flood brought back memories dude. I’m 32 lol, and I remember like it was yesterday playing halo as a kid, and I remember the night I first beat the game..so strange thinking back to those times years and years ago…I really enjoyed watching this video u made dude. Bravo
Sour had never played Halo before, had no clue what he’s doing at the start, yet beat the game on Legendary. Meanwhile I grew up playing Halo, know about the weapon combos, but yet can’t get past the second level.
Just letting you know, on Halo 2, the anniversary graphics are accepted by most. The Halo CE anniversary uses Reach's assets, and they fail to match up with the OG CE visually
The absolute _despair_ in your voice at 1:06:15 when Keyes dies, and you realize its an escort mission. Playing solo legendary for your first time through is certainly a choice!
It's always awesome seeing someone's blind playthrough of Halo and first time reaction to the flood. If you're going to continue the series be warned, Halo 2 has a reputation for its legendary difficulty, tread it lightly. But while we recommend OG graphics for Halo 1. Halo 2's remastered graphics look gorgeous and definitely recommend playing on them.
I got into ur channel maybe a week ago? Watched you play all the old CoDs; the games that made my childhood. And now you play the one, single game that created my lifelong passion for videogames. Stoked to watch this.
Gotta say it's hilarious seeing you do what I used to do when I was oh so young (and still do now lol): constnatly retrying the checkpoint to steal that Banshee in AotC. Truly, classic Halo players are the same across generations
Enjoyed this video, it's well-made. As a long-time Halo player, it's always interesting to watch people rediscover the shield-plasma meat-human weapons strength and figure out what weapons they like. Speedrunners mostly stay in old graphics both out of personal preference and because the simplicity makes information more obvious at a glance, as you mentioned. Plasma pistol is indeed GOATed
Great video! First time checking out the channel. It was great seeing someone going through this game going blind! Cant wait to watch halo 2 and hopefully the rest of the series
As someone who beta tested CE (ask to see my special nameplate), I spend a lot of time lately watching people experience the franchise for the first time - and TBH, it's usually gal gamers since most dudes go full ITZ YA BOI... so you're a breath of fresh air in your honesty, and have subbed to watch you keep going 💪
Oh this is so cool. I began watching this channel because of the COD and Medal of Honor play throughs. And now an expansion into the Halo verse. Heck yeah. Halo is one of the core games that really put me on my path to video gaming. Also the lore that makes up the Halo verse is so good to nerd out on.
You'll begin to understand a little better when you play Halo 2 in terms of why we're at war with the covenant. No spoilers but you'll enjoy it, Halo 2 is the best game story wise. Props to you for starting off your Halo journey on legendary. All I'm gonna say though is if you plan to do the same with Halo 2, be prepared, I won't spoil but there's a certain enemy in Halo 2 that is an absolute pain in the ass on legendary, they are the personification of PTSD, goodluck, you'll know what I mean when you start playing.

ooooooh myyyyy goooood YESSSS! I've just searched for a Halo CE Campain Longplay with commentary. Now YOU did it! The Best Commentary i could imagine
In the same boat having never played it either, keen for this!
AHHHHH DOPAMINE HAPPINESS HAS BEEN ACHIEVED LETS FUCKIN GOOOO
Edit: also im only like 10 mins in rn, but watching the learning and understanding as he goes is so awesome, cant wait to see how much he has improved by the end!
If I skip that cutscene will it also skip the main cutscene?
@@Nikzmat no, skipping the first cut-scene will start the "proper" one. Just be careful not to skip twice I suppose
thank you so much man❤ I didn't know that
@aledwilliams3875 also is buying reach and odst worth it? Heard mixed things abt reach
@@Nikzmat all good mate, enjoy the game
As someone who is actually about to undertake this same journey with a friend of mine who has never played the series, I am happy to see more people continuously getting to experience the amazing work that went into the first batch of games.
Please make sure you keep the graphics classic and for his sake don't let him touch the terminals
@@FestorFreak sounds like you're having a blast bro, hope he doesn't lose It in the library lol
This is a legendary moment and I’m here for it.
This is the funnest Halo video i have ever watched. I would watch every video if you played all the games
The delirium after the hanger fight was insanely entertaining. I pray for your mental recovery and that it’s gone well post this challenge
Cranking up the music for the final mission was the right choice! Awesome playthrough man, gave me lots of nostalgia watching you learn the ropes
I enjoyed watching this and the Halo 2 playthrough. You've got to be a pretty good gamer to be able to go in blind and not have the resulting video be painful. Good job.
Good luck with this brother. Legendary Halo is not to be fucked with. I hope you do the whole series (except for 5)
this is my first video i've watched from your channel and was very entertained binging this for almost 4 hours and i'm stoked for you to play halo 2 it just gets better in pretty much every way and also you can play the 2nd one with remastered graphics its generally agreed upon that its better halo ce is just the tip of the iceberg and hope you continue playing the rest soon
this is a badass playthrough, props to you haha. The next few games get soo good story and gameplay wise. Legendary is quite a beast to tackle solo if you continue it so youll definitely have the challenge. cant wait to see you play the next games!
I seriously need to see you play the rest of the halo series, this was incredibly entertaining
I'm a Diehard HALO fanboy, and I can say I absolutely enjoyed seeing you learn and discover all the nuances and unique quirks of HALO's gameplay, from the shields to the Banshee's alternate bomb attack!
I also completely understand your position about the graphics as you're coming from a non-nostalgic point of view.
All in all,
I hope you enjoyed a game that is very near and dear to my heart, and I can't wait for you to try remastered HALO 2!!! 🤩🤩
I randomly got recommended this. Subbed, I love Bungie’s Halo and I’m looking forward to your vids.
WHAT?!?!
I didn't expect this one, but I'm SO freaking excited to watch this!!! Halo is amazing
❤️😱❤️
(That "Not a natural formation" cave still stands out a ton in original graphics, it's become a meme line in the community lol)
I really enjoyed watching and listening to you play Halo! I've played it since the start and it's my favorite thing to see someone discover something I love so much! Thanks for the video!
Every halo has special cut scenes and endings for legendary it's it's gift to gaming
Hope you play the rest. Definitely going to tune in for that.
He should also watch the keys terminal
Halo 2 is when the lore gets incredible. And good luck doing it on legendary haha. Looking forward to it.
This is peak nostalgia! I cannot believe I get to watch you experience so many firsts!!
Absolutely love watching people play halo for the first time good video man
Oh man, I'll be here for this whole series
loved the Tormentor SFX you put in the video at 57:39 lol. people may not call them out much but I love the little details you put into the videos
wonderful to watch this, It's always a treat seeing someone play these for the first time again after being someone that has played them for 23 years now, Once ya hit Halo2 legendary is alot harder then the first one haha.
Well said
Sad that 343 didn't and know how video game drama worked at all and never learned. They thought the flood level meant floodlights everywhere.
I love how quiet he was during the cutscenes, can tell he was properly taking in the games god tier story telling!
Socom U. S. Navy seals play through eventually? That game was such a big part of my childhood. Love your videos.
Aye, Combined Assault's the one I favor the most. Kinda got a bug where Killjoy gets pissed and shoots at you for no reason during one of the Instant Action missions on the map where it's an urban blackout at night traversing narrow alleyways and optional sewer side path.
You getting upset on the keys mission is the encapsulation of halo. I love it! will watch a whole series of this.
Hope to see you play Halo 2 soon btw
Took the Library like a champ for a first time player, on Legendary no less. Halo 2 Legendary is going to be a gauntlet (a very pretty gauntlet) but once you're through that you're gonna blast through 3 and Reach. Already looking forward to the next one!
Thoroughly enjoyed this whole playthrough. Please complete the series!
You did really well on legendary for your first play through of peak halo
Watching the cutscene where Jenkins and Keyes get attacked by flood brought back memories dude. I’m 32 lol, and I remember like it was yesterday playing halo as a kid, and I remember the night I first beat the game..so strange thinking back to those times years and years ago…I really enjoyed watching this video u made dude. Bravo
Sour had never played Halo before, had no clue what he’s doing at the start, yet beat the game on Legendary.
Meanwhile I grew up playing Halo, know about the weapon combos, but yet can’t get past the second level.
same. it be like that
FR bro should become a game journalist lol
Mad respect and props to you for jumping blind into a Legendary campaign of Halo CE.
I saw the thumnnail and immediately went like "Uh Oh" with my own trauma of some of these missions lol.
When I saw he played with the "remastered" graphics, and I said the same thing.
It's so amazing to see someone enjoy halo for the first time. What a journey you will embark on.
It's always awesome seeing someone's blind playthrough of Halo and first time reaction to the flood.
If you're going to continue the series be warned, Halo 2 has a reputation for its legendary difficulty, tread it lightly. But while we recommend OG graphics for Halo 1. Halo 2's remastered graphics look gorgeous and definitely recommend playing on them.
yep!
I got into ur channel maybe a week ago? Watched you play all the old CoDs; the games that made my childhood. And now you play the one, single game that created my lifelong passion for videogames. Stoked to watch this.
I love the Tormentor spawn sound affect whenever Hunters appear!
This is so damn well edited, fantastic playthrough!
Gotta say it's hilarious seeing you do what I used to do when I was oh so young (and still do now lol): constnatly retrying the checkpoint to steal that Banshee in AotC.
Truly, classic Halo players are the same across generations
You immediately discovering your love for the CE Magnum warms my loins.
love seeing another brother experience this
Enjoyed this video, it's well-made.
Just saw this and went OH NO here we go again but this i'll say is this is a good early birthday present for me
Great video! First time checking out the channel. It was great seeing someone going through this game going blind!
Cant wait to watch halo 2 and hopefully the rest of the series
Thanks!
The few woud recognize the green pistol as the MVP weapon of this game that it truly is. Great job!
If this video was almost 4 hours, I can only imagine what Halo 2 legendary is going to be like
Can’t wait to watch your Halo journey continue as you go through all the games & all the lore. It’s gonna be wild ride.
