Gareth Evans a prick of the 1st order, he says "iam the stone roses" Ian, John, mani and reni are the stone roses always and forever there music lives on xx
Just watched all six parts in one go, thank you so much for posting them! I missed it when it was on TV. Gareth Evans, well, what can you say? I think I agree with Mani! :-D
"i was the best thing that happened to them" Evans sums up the stone roses. News flash:men in white coats swarm on manchester golf course.Evans taken away last heard shouting "i was the best thing that ever happened to golf".
You almost expect to find out at the end the whole thing is a spoof, and Evans just a comic character for the show. I don’t think though the problem is Evans. I think the issue is The Stone Roses chose him to be their manager! What the hell were they seeing in him other than what we can see plain as day in this programme?! Unbelievable.
This sad excuse for a human being actually lives about one minute away from me, and I tell you all, he is WIERD! Always pissing off his neighbours causing trouble, and also befriending lots of different people, just to get to their money. Beware this man!
No, that's not a rule. The truth is it takes a whole bunch of people to make a band big. Managers, record companies, DJs, roadies, booking agents, advertisers, photographers, video producers, ... Most of the time just the band gets the credit in the end. Nobody cares about what goes on behind the curtains.
the la's, the stone roses, ride, my bloody valentine...so many UK bands that could have been more productive but weren't. what's the problem with modern English bands? come on you people, sort yourself out!
@Oddjob1177 thanks for clearing that up, Mr Einstein. Where did i say gareth evans made the group sound good in the studio ? I dont think you stone roses fans are too bright to be honest.
I love this song of the voice ian & guitar Squire, is magic, don't anybody never, are 've been the stone, ❤❤❤❤ Reni, Mani, Ian,Squire, love u ❤
Still I wonder how turntable had found itself in the title. I guess people still associate them with the Hacienda's electronic music, although they really have nothing to do with it.
@Fyeagass16 ye manager is ment to tell the band to get legal advice from a lawyer that has no conection to him or the record company. so they can get a fair deal
@jamgeorgie bit hard to pick one but try 'Hanging Around','Peaches',basically anything from the albums Rattus Norvegicus,No More Heroes,Black and White,The Raven, check out stranglers at Battersea park on you tube, hope you enjoy!!!!
@essemmetv how dare you even consider typing the name "Stones roses" on the same paragraph as "Ride" or "my bloody valentine"(!)(?) - the latter band incidently is a complete mystery to me.I can't think of any bands that should have made it massive but didn't.The cream always gets to the top - although there are many cases of bands who were bigger in demise than they were in existence - the Smiths are a perfect example.
Nice touch that off camera but from the ex manager. He just knows he can keep himself in the picture and riding on their coat tails if he makes outrageous claims. Cash from chaos
Yep, they got what they deserved without you Gareth Evans..... love to see that guys face now that they did all those reunion gigs and he didn't get one penny.... they finally cashed in on their legend
All the people taking Gareth Evans' comments seriously are hilarious. Pretty sure he was just trolling his ass off and making inflammatory statements just to piss people off. Either way, the Roses ended up crashing and burning all over again even without him so I guess his management wasn't the only problem the band had.
You are obviously not listening to the album properly, how can you say " your star will shine" isn't good? You've listened to the 1st album so much you've made yourself think it can't be topped but the second coming album for me has some better tracks
They got shafted in contracts but as a musician you should have a decent music lawyer when signing. They were young but I don't think that's really an excuse. With regards to their musical output, Ok they weren't allowed to release anything during the court case but that doesn't stop them writing or recording demos? Plus the Silvertone boss seemed sound, if they stuck with them they would have made plenty of money from royalties or a bigger label would have bought them out of the contract.
Mani has written hundreds of famous songs for many artists including oasis, blur, supergrass, the happy Mondays and Christina Aguilera. He rarely takes credit for songwriting because he is famously incredibly humble and shy. He wrote all of the La's songs and gave them selflessly to Lee Mavers to record.
so shouldve stone roses got an legal advice from a lower? thats the question i got from a teatcher, any ideas? i could say No, but i whould need 199 more words
genuinely don't understand how someone like Gareth Evans is that deluded. he was clearly out of his depth with a band far greater than he ever could have imagined
As much as Evans played his part in ruining the band, by holding the money back from them, he actually kept them together, look what happened when the money came in, the band despersed to different areas leading towards the split, not saying Evans wasn't completely responsable but certainly the Roses weren't the best at handling and using cash.
evans was a total chancer an too a certain degree it paid off with million dollar payouts etc. if it wasent him that mugged em off am quite sure someone else would of. great band all the same.
fuckin genius!!! stone roses need a film for the bands story, like 24 hour party peoble an control... would be quality, you could even have steve coogan playing Gareth Evans again, tony wilson and gareth evans, pair of twats, although Tony Wilson had a bit intellect and a bit soul, whereas Gareth seems to be a truly real life version of Alan Partridge... imagine him all smug at the end of the film with his golf course.. quality like!
@revol148 A lot of bands got bumped for cash and there is still a lot of sharks in the industry. Blur also had the same problem on their first couple of albums because they were held to contract, but had to fight their way out of it by making records till their deal expired all at some fuckers expense (Great Escape is shit deliberately). I just feel really sorry for the Roses, because I feel their music was done by poor management and I feel like destroying that fucking managers golf course!!!
What a greedy horrible selfish man , " I just wanted my money " how about all the money u taken from them .being young ,having a greedy manger didn't have a clue , Mr Evans terrible guy !!
i liked gareth in this + think its pretty intresting how the stone roses were shit before he was the manager and shit after he was the manager. coincidence ?
Ever heard of having eyes bigger than one's stomach? What is the measure of band potential? Is it not talent (musical ability & proficiency) & dedication? All of this "I could have been a contender," does it pan out? They had the hardest time even writing a 2nd album; is this showing dedication & continuous creativity? And, what have the guys accomplished after breakup? Another thing that gets me for most rock bands is, do they use their new found fortunes tune increase their craft - Learn? No!
I have loved this band from the time I first heard them. They had a wonderful sound with a couple of amazing talents in it. I have listened to their demos and various versions of their material, which is not that extensive, on UA-cam. I would say that they had excellent material and were, at best, produced in a mediocre way. It also appears that they were poorly managed. Brian Epstein made the Beatles. Roses had no such mentor.
Indeed, and even then that % can go down, the bigger you get. I was signed to a big management company and the initial contract was 3 albums or 6 years, with them getting 20%. If after the contract was up and certain amounts had been generated etc. and the contract was to be renewed by all parties, their % could go down to 15% or less. Often managers of really huge bands end up on much less than 20% over time, but even the lower % of huge amounts of money is still substantial.
Gareth Evans was most definitely NOT The Stone Roses, as he asserts. He killed that band, and any chance they had for success, nearly singlehandedly. He is SO obviously an egomaniacal, twisted old liar - a criminal and a nutcase. The Stone Roses debut is without a doubt the best album, ever. May we always cherish the memories and the music. And Gareth Evans, may you burn in hell.
Yeah, though hilarious he may be, SR has it DEAD RIGHT! THEY were the ones with the transcendent talent....and NOT Gareth Fookin' Evans!..........TOP line though.
There's no doubt this guy's egomaniacal & possibly a sociopath but it's ego's like his that have the balls to do what he did to take The Roses as far as they went. Sure he may have ripped em off for the small pennies but when he got em out of The Silvertone deal they signed with Geffen for 2 and a half million pounds and that was due to Evans deal Geffen boss in LA. That's why Squires and Brown were able to afford their mansions in Manchesters poshy suburbs. Evans sued for his cut of the deal.
it's a horrible business. but, you gota meet demands, be smart, n play the game..OASIS were chaos, but didn't let drugs get in the way of top tunes. plus with OASIS, totally right TIME.. pickin up where the roses fell, and taking it even further.
all this talk about legal wranglings/dodgy record contracts/even more dogy money grabbing managers is basically a smokescreen to cover the fact that this band was a one album wonder creation - after all if they really were that great then why did they self-destruct after their second album? (which in any case sold a fraction of their debut)!
gareth evans wot a pure knob .
Mani is the sickest dude around

Top 5 bass player

The greatest band at the time in Manchester, THE STONE ROSES lucky boro fc
Don’t forget that Evans sang the songs and played all the instruments in the Roses as well. Allegedly………..
Same here, play them on the iPod at least once a week - today listened to "Where Angels Play." Probably one of their most underated songs.
Great British characters with a tragically deluded and inflated sense of self; Alan Partridge, David Brent, Gareth Evans.
If he is one of the stone roses then I must be one as well .
I think in some ways we are!! At the very least, Garage Flowers!!!! I live on the other side of the pond and no band has ever meant so much to me!!
