After years of waiting and searching, i finally bought one a week ago. Mine was made in 1922. Most of the original blueing is still there. Came with original mag and grips. I don't think it had been cleaned once in 102 years; i tore it down completely and scrubbed everything with CLP. That really brought it around. One of my favorite guns that I own.
@@shooburshune I got a smokin deal on mine. It's not perfect, but in very good shape, paid $550 I think? Which is cheap for California gun prices(add 25%).
I read a quote from Col. Cooper that went about like this: Don’t carry a .25. If you do, you’ll be tempted to load it, and if you load it you might be tempted to shoot someone with it, and if they ever find out, they could get very angry and hurt you. That was the general gist, anyway. I bought myself a FIE-Titan .25 on my 21st birthday. It was never out of arms reach for 14 years (I built a small shelf in my shower where it wouldn’t get soap splatter on it). Through all the crazy shit I went through, I never had to draw it. It certainly gave me confidence to go, do, and say things I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It also gave me the wisdom to -not- go to certain places, -not- do some things, and keep my big mouth shut rather than be in a situation where I would have to shoot someone. I’m a little dude (surprise) and can only conceal a very narrow-framed piece. I hear good things about Kahr Arms’ pocket pistols and that there is a version in .40 S&W (about the largest round I can control reliably). I have yet to meet anyone who has actually owned one, nor have I seen any objective videos on them. Perhaps someone reading this van point me in the right direction.
back when I was in the German Navy in PO training our hand weapons instructor had a private Walther TPH in .25acp. He said with this gun you have to aim between an attackers knees but higher :)
Josef Bublík, czechoslovak paratrooper who was in group to assassinate Heydrich, was armed with same type pistol Colt 1908. Colt 1908 was his last stand weapon in fight with Gestapo and SS in 1942
Those "mouse guns" can be a lot of fun to shoot. While not the best for self defense, there are times when I carry one because it hard to conceal anything larger with what I have to wear.
I have this gun and love using it around the farm... I love 25.... Totally underrated... Mine is 100 years old and ive never had it jam. . Great gun and round for what it is and when you're doing hard work outside in the south, sometimes even a baby glock or j frame is even too much...
I have two of these Baby Browning/Pocket Pistols. The Seecamp LWS is smaller. You can get the LWS in 25acp, 32acp if you hate your hands, and 380 acp if you have a deathwish. A .380 Seecamp LWS is smaller than a .25acp Baby Browning.
Our neighbour shot a burglar with a Beretta .25- he literally brought a (kitchen) knife to a gunfight. He still ran 150 yards with a .25 ACP FMJ in his heart.
The moral of the story is, he didn't make it after that heart shot. Anything that makes a hole, even an ice pick will kill you, may not be right away, but hemorrhage will hurt and kill you slowly, what a way to die. Shot placement and many rounds, gang bangers used it to shoot rivals at very close range. Many, many did not make it. Saturday night specials.
Dude got tagged three times with the .25- one bullet scraped his forearm, one nearly perforated his ear, and one found its way into his heart. My father was also the neighbour’s attorney, so we were sent the coroner’s post-mortem. No charges were filed.
I'm glad you mentioned range and placement . Just outside the length of an overhand right....one pip squeak .25 to the head is the hardest punch in the world.
My grandfather gave a nickel plated version to my grandmother as a wedding gift in 1923. She carried it in her purse, and actually used it once 40 years later as a widow when a man followed her into her house after work. When asked why she only shot over his head, which scared him off, she answered that she didn't want to clean up the blood. I still have that pistol. Shoots very well. Another story, years ago I read a green beret's first hand account from Vietnam. He carried a 1908 as his last resort gun strapped in an ankle holster. Only reason he survived hand-to-hand combat with a Viet Cong was the pistol's effectiveness, albeit at close range.
I have a Colt 1903 .32acp. My grandfather bought it for my grandmother for protection when he was out riding the range. Looks very similar to this but easier to hold on to!
Seecamp makes the best modern mouse gun period! I own an LWS-380 (world’s smallest semi auto .380acp pistol) 6+1 13oz all stainless and with an interesting delayed blow back action. I’ve owned the Seecamp LWS-380 and an LWS-32 for 13-14 years now! Absolutely fantastic guns and they are the modern pinnacle of mouse guns. And they look beautiful, extremely well made! I love mouse guns more as a backup. And I’ve had a lot of .25 autos. It’s definitely a shot placement thing. Frankly I don’t trust rim fire cartridges for self defense. Try a Seecamp LWS pistol folks they are amazing! Great episode!!
I loved shooting a 25 acp pocket-pistol as a kid at the range with my dad. It was something that was controllable and easy-shooting for smaller hands, and the multiple safeties meant learning more about the nature of firearms, transferring skills to guns that had similar features (like a 1911). Going from a 25 acp to a 45 acp Hi Point… night and day for a kid.
The other day a guy at the range had a little FN 1906 pistol with him in this little pristine black 'FN' box. It was amazingly accurate for such a small pistol
I had a FN Model 1905/06 issued to me when I was back in the NSW police Force as a backup pistol for my S&W M10. It was a pleasant pistol to shoot & concealment wise it was excellent. Yes the 6.35x16mmSR (.25ACP) couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding at 100m but very handy for closeup work. It's still underrated for what it was used for.
Those pistols were so common that in Finland Browning was a synonym for pocket pistols. When the Archduke Franz Ferdinand was murdered a newspaper here wrote "Archduke Franz Ferdinand shot with a Browning."
I have a Colt 1903, .32 ACP. Made in 1907, my grandfather bought it in 1920. It sat in a relatives drawer for many decades until it made its way to me. It drills...amazing. All smoothed over like that one, small sights, billed as a pocket gun. I read somewhere Al Capone carried two of them.
“Carry a 25 if it makes you feel good, but do not ever load it. If you load it you may shoot it. If you shoot it you may hit somebody, and if you hit somebody, and he finds out about it, he may be very angry with you.” - Col. Jeff Cooper
Micah, love ya, brother. So this criticism is intended to be constructive for fans of learning. Specifically the times when you guys are trying to show a particular detail, please hold the shot for another 5-10s, and as steady as possible. For example, when y’all were showing .22 vs .25 in Charlie’s hand, there was not a single moment of steady, in-focus video. Or, when showing .22 vs .25 in the ballistics gel, the camera was super shaky and panned away from the gel before any details could be observed. Just a few extra seconds of steady video would allow us to observe these interesting differences.
In Europe we have cz92. Fun thing in the same .25acp no front or rear sights, just tiny dent in the slide. Still manageable to hit bullseye from 25 meters away
I had a small collection of Pocket Pistols, all in 25 ACP. It consisted of the Colt 1908 Vest Pocket, an FN Baby Browning, a Colt Junior and a Beretta 950 Jet-Fire. I sold the Junior and ended up giving the Baby Browning to my father in law, as a Christmas present. Ironically, it’s his everyday carry now. The Beretta is probably the most practical, out of the bunch. That said, I wouldn’t consider any of them for carry, unless I had no choice. I just always thought they were neat, for their historical significance.
IK IK.. But you should have used a tiny 22 to compare in the gel. RIP Paul. Loved it when he would circle his face and say THE CORRECT PART OF THE TARGET!!!
22 may be stronger esp 22 magnum but what you gain is ignition reliability imho. Ahh shoot you got around to that at the end. We can’t even put rimfire on our CCW where I live…
I had jury duty back in July 2015 and purpose is to determine whether or not certain cases are to proceed. One of the cases was a death due to firearms negligence. A guy was shot one time in the chest, I forget the make and model of the firearm but the round was a 25 acp.
I can attest to the efficiency of a pocket pistol it saved mine and my chosen families lives back in July from a determined attacker my little ruger lcp II in 22lr saved us and I got multiple video backing it up
@jefferydraper4019 none of that, this happened as I was just waking from a nap after returning from the coast after the 4th of July week we took off to enjoy, we returned home to be met with an assault right in front of the complex next to jblm and were chased thru the parking lot after receiving fire, no discussion no words just immediate threat and assessment and reaction as soon as my ticket was punched in
The weapon carried by an elderly Frank James who affectionately called it his pocket gattling gun. Same approximate muzzle velocity as the I873 and 1911 Colts using factory loads of the era.
I’ve got one and love it, though I’ve never carried it. As an LEO my dad often carried a Colt Junior back in the 60’s and 70’s. For what it’s worth, the junior had better sights and a grip tang so you didn’t need to carry bandaids.😂
My Guiseppe 25 was my first self defense hand gun 40 yrs ago. Still functions perfectly. Buffalo Bore makes a special round for 25 ACP which looks like a winner over 22 cal.
I have a odd topic that might be fun! Here in Germany we have something called a "small"weapons license. Its basically a background check, that allows you to carry blanks. This has brought up a fun mix of "self defense" or "animal defense" blank rounds. In 9mm PAK/Blank. Some examples: - CS - CN - Pepper/OC (Actually Nonivamid) - Flash (think of bright red muzzle flash) or mixtures of them... Flash with Pepper. CN with CS. I did carry a blank with pepper for about 2 years. First a clone of a S&W 36, later a "Zoraki 906" (6+1, semiauto). But came to the conclusion that OC spray is plain more practical. You get the same range, 5-6 meters. You get way more agent in the same package. For example, my small Zoraki 906 - 40ml OC spray. The spray is way smaller and lighter. With 6+1 in the blank gun. Loaded with the most potent pepper loads I could find ("Wadie Supra" - 120mg Nonivamid). Comes out to 840mg or 0,84gramms of agent. While a 1.5OZ/43ml can of Fox Labs 5.3² with 4% OC and 1,4%MC (Major Capsaicinoids). Comes out to 1,7g(1700mg) of OC and 0,6gramms(602mg) of MC. And there is also less risk to you when in public to cause panic. And being confronted by police with guns. As well as holding up better in wind. And needing less maintenance. Easier to carry. Not considered a weapon etc.
@@shaunt892 I have thought about throwing together a video with all the nozzle types, different kinds of sprays (fog, cone, stream, foam, gel etc), different solvents, what scovil units/OC vs MC content and so on.... Actually differs, as the information online seems to be super scattered and quite a lot of conflicting recommendations are out there. For blanks/self defensive loads. I can buy and carry them in Germany. But I sadly don't have a area where I could test such ammunition out on... That's why I would really like to see someone like GarandThumb to do a video about it. It would also interest me a lot to see what someone from the US thinks about such ammo. And if it actually cycles in real firearms.
That's exactly what happened with the company that made the Zip22. They were known for making some really good guns, then sold off all those production lines and equipment to finance the lines for the Zip.
Good stuff, Mike! I love videos like this. As you mentioned, niche firearms and firearm history are things that should be discussed as much as possible. We all like the new shiny stuff but talking about where we came from helps put where we’re going into perspective.

This gun actually saved my life in a combat scenario. Three off and three down. It was my sisters before she died. I call it her “kiss of death” 👍🏻

@@mattmarzula Some, and by .22s and knives too. But the .25 was always a notoriously poor stopper. As the video points out, shot placement with a .25 is critical, and if you've spent any time shooting one, you know they are also notoriously inaccurate.
They were carried as a ‘Throw Down’ gun, for those unfortunate times when you thought the bad guy had a gun, but he didn’t, but the bad guy did in fact need shooting, and so this solved the whole problem
I just noticed your solid gun discipline as you were discussing the hammer-less pistol. As you moved it around to show the trigger, you realized quickly to raise the barrel over the camera. Well done.

Mine's from 1921. Aren't they sweet? So much quality.

@@shooburshune I got a smokin deal on mine. It's not perfect, but in very good shape, paid $550 I think? Which is cheap for California gun prices(add 25%).

I read a quote from Col. Cooper that went about like this:
Don’t carry a .25.
My uncle was a jeweler, he carried one of these that had been bejeweled by Tiffany’s. He had it in a custom made pocket holster.
If a 50 grain pill hits you in the face at 700 FPS I expect you would still have to re evaluate your life choices.

Our neighbour shot a burglar with a Beretta .25- he literally brought a (kitchen) knife to a gunfight. He still ran 150 yards with a .25 ACP FMJ in his heart.
This is why I carry a phased plasma rifle in the 40 Watt range. Can never be too careful....
If he didn't run...that would still be a lot of fight!
Yeah

For real, when rounds start going off no one asks what size they are to decide if they want to stick around or not. 😅

I have both the seecamp and colt. The seecamp is smaller than the colt. I carry a seecamp 32 a lot.

I like my SIG 938 for my backup and sometimes EDC. Small pocket sized, nice & accurate and still packs a 9mm punch.

25 ACP is WAY more reliable in a pocket pistol than a .22 rimfire.

Kentucky Ballistics is a good example.
Agreed. You'd think a Grand Master would have steadier hands... ; )

I have a odd topic that might be fun!
Here in Germany we have something called a "small"weapons license. Its basically a background check, that allows you to carry blanks.
This has brought up a fun mix of "self defense" or "animal defense" blank rounds. In 9mm PAK/Blank. Some examples:
- CS
- CN
- Pepper/OC (Actually Nonivamid)
- Flash (think of bright red muzzle flash)
or mixtures of them...
Yoooo, we need some videos and information on these things!
I used to have that exact model. I was dumb enough to trade it for 2 zip .22s on the very first of their release.
