Thank you so much. Its rare we get tubes to align with work schedule where I am but I cant wait to try what I am learning. I really appreciate the time you are putting into sharing this.
Love your explination videos , been learning a lot with them . I'm looking forward to see you compet in Chile this year. thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! good waves
Thanks for posting the stages to execute this maneuver. When setting up for the move could you target the lip to initiate for a more projection ? Is the rolo also a good precursor for executing a back flip ? Thanks for your vids and being awesome. Hopefully you can also discuss chaining multiple maneuvers on a single wave.
Man I love your videos, your awesome, keep doing them cuz they help a lot people like me to improve our technique and knowledge about the bodyboard world
Great video again Iain thanks for sharing your great knowledge of bodyboarding with us.I am not great at moves because of my bad knee.l hope to do a 360 spin soon would be greatfull of any tips.many thanks.
Hi. Thanks. And yes I do have some tips. Should have it out early next month which will show the 360. My biggest tip would be to stay cantered on your board, lift your legs up and use your head to spin.
Whenever i was involved in a bomb in general at Derdesteen shorebreak back in the day. (A bomb = a barreling wave that is inevitably going to close out on you) I would always do a barrel roll and was the only time i would even consider doing a roll:) Came very helpful in the School League that use to happen at Derdesteen:)
CAN YOU PLEASE DO A TUTORIAL ON THE REVERSE 360? NOT THE AIR REVERSE, JUST THE SPIN. I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO GET THE ROTATION ALL THE WAY AROUND. PLEASE BRO🔥
Iain - thank you for your excellent videos. Can you make a video about fin position, and the use of fins use to control flow and speed while riding? I think it would be a first (and very beneficial)!
I have another video called bodyboard basics that explains the use of legs and body positioning. Go check that one out. Explains a lot about the positioning.
Was good to go boarding the other day took me back to my days at 8 to doing a.comp body boarding visiting my grandparents I was on local tv and all doing Barrel rolles and 360 surface spins now I'm getting back into it like riding a bike but because I learnt how to surf I wanna do tricks body boarding I find it more fun
Brace for impact... I dislocated my left shoulder a month ago landing after a barrel rolling... I’m a noob and now I have even more questions about how to take those landing impacts without hurting myself! what parts of our body should absorb such energy?
Your shoulders are really vulnerable when it comes to bodyboarding. When it’s flip tricks, the tip is to try land more on your hips/legs. When it’s rolls and spins it’s key to keep your elbows as close to your body as possible. Watch guys like Jeff Hubbard when doing big moves, he always lands with his elbows really close to his body. I try it too but it’s about remembering that.
Iain Campbell thanks a lot for replying! If only I had asked before 😅 There's a lot on the internet about manouvers and boards and basics but about security, preparation, physical and mental (apnea, keeping it under control when you're down)... well, not so much! Thanks for the tip! I'll for sure be following your videos more!
Im always aiming to practice it but I tend to lose the section because Im going either too fast , hit a weak part of the lip or a late part of the lip that sends me head down underwater, so Im kind of confused on what to do
Timing isn’t the easiest thing to teach but try to watch and understand the speed of the wave a bit more. This will allow you to figure out if you need to slow down or speed up…
Hi Iain. Thanks for the video. Sorry another question about the head movement! Are you looking left towards the beach just as you're going into the roll, then throwing your head over your right shoulder as you rotate upside down? So in other words, when you are upside down you're looking over your right shoulder towards the beach?
Correct and correct. First I am eyeing out the landing area. Second use my momentum and then head to the beach. This forces you to go about 90 degree in board direction from the lip to the landed position.
I thought they were two different move's , the elrollo is were you drive hard of the bottom and punch through the roof of the barrel or hit the lip outside the barrel were as a barrel roll is were you disengage your rail inside the barrel and let the momentum loop you around inside the barrel and not punch through the roof
I feel that at the end of the day although it seems like they are different, the move itself is still the same and you still follow the same direction and motion...
Bro when am doing rolls i don't complete them , i don't khow why i do the rotation in the air but i fall on my side or i hit the water but i lose the board Any tips please , sorry for my poor eng
Hey man. I’m not too sure what you are doing wrong but I have started to do some coaching. If you would like me to take a look, go to the link below: eepurl.com/cMw3NT
It seems counter intuitive to look to the beach. I thought you'd be looking the other way - i.e if going right look over right shoulder. What am I missing?
You are going to want to look over your right shoulder initially but once you are upside down you look must be toward the beach... Maybe didnt go into enough detail there...
Thanks so much for explaining Iain! I hit the waves today and tried it and was so stoked at how well it works. I really appreciate your tutorial videos. Best online for sure. I live in a small City in New Zealand so finding any bodyboarding coaching or even tips is almost impossible. The vast majority of guys here do standup surfing. Do you have a patreon or PayPal account if people want to support you making more videos?
Spotting is used by all top athletes in diving, gymnastics, ice skating, dance, etc. The eyes and head are the key to balanced turns, spins and rolls. The eyes lead the head which the body and board will follow.
Thanks Breden. I do this to build up the channel and hope to make these videos for people to learn from. I will however start to drop my paypal details if people want to support the channel. The details are as follows: paypal.me/iaincampbell07 Appreciate the support and I will continue to make some content for all the bodyboarders to learn from.

Hi iain… what’s the movement to do with your head while doing el rollo? You have to look all the time at the beach?
It’s across the shoulder as if you’re looking back and up… but looking towards the beach helps to start that movement.
