the lav mic on the phone sounds genuinely phenomenal for hte price. I'm sure theres drops in quality compared to the professional boom mic that I would be sensitive to if I listened carefully, but damn that's not too shabby for what it is. The issue is how much that quality seems to rely on the rest of the setup. That buzz in particular on the camera is making me wary of a purchase especially.
I am just keeping it real coz it needs to be said: You need to fix the processed sound from your boom mic. You sound like you’re speaking under water. It is a bit ironic since you gave the good/bad picture/sound lecture in the beginning of the video. You sounded much better unprocessed.
Just came across this video because I bought one today 😂😂 i was scared on how it would sound and it really sound better than expected, and for me will work better because my Studio is properly treated… good video!! 🔥🔥
I know this video is a year old but it seems like you have the bass completely cut from your boom mic. When there was no processing on it, it sounded 100x better than before. Overall, I did like the Pop voice lav though. Considering it as a backup since it is affordable and can be used without worry about damaging.
Great job! These small electret microphones are cheap to manufacture and can sound decent. Not bad for $13. I listened several times through headphones, and I think you over-processed the audio. Sounded a bit clipped, shallow, and unnatural with too much noise reduction. Both the unprocessed boom and lavalier samples sounded better with the edge to the boom mic. The boom is more robust and fuller than the Pop Voice lav. Also, the unprocessed samples sound more natural than the processed audio. The reverb in the room is still there with the lav mic. The boom has less reverb. Sounds like a good quality mid-length shotgun with a nice directional (cardioid) pattern. Most lavs are omni mics so will still pick up room noise 360 degrees. Several sound absorbing panels and/or rug might help with those pesky bouncing sound waves. Your entertaining style and personality overshadow any minor audio issues.
The Pop voice was the best! I have a PurplePanda wired lav £20 which is even better (seeing comparison reviews). I also have a Fulaim X5 wireless lav £120 and the PurplePanda has a richer fuller audio. The Fulaim is very location dependent. Very much better right beneath my chin. Even better held right in front of my mouth. I should use the PP but I hate wires!!!
Nice review, thanks! Probably should’ve mentioned what exact mic you are using on the boom. I see in description that it’s a Takstar SGC-598. It definitely wins, btw, but that doesn’t seem too surprising, even though it’s a budget mic too.
the noise reduction near 7:30 and on is very robotic. it is hard to redo something you have a timetable for, and programs like izotope rx8 and up can help, but... too much noise reduction does the underwater at the plosive area and when a silent moment comes in.
Hello! I was just wondering, what do you mean by "processed"? Is it edited audio? And in that case, does that mean that 5:50 to 6:10 are audio from the pop voice mic?
5:40 - Boom Mic - Camera/No Process 5:55 - Pop Lav - IPhone/No Process 6:17 - Pop Lav - Camera/No Process 6:35 - Boom Mic - Camera/Processed 6:50 - Pop Lav - IPhone/Processed 7:15 - Pop Lav - Camera/Processed
ur boom mike is not that good I think you messed with the settings or something... sounds like I'm on a skype call with bad internet (btw you should just use the lav mic)
Nobody wants a mic, lav or otherwise that CANNOT work with the iPhone video, in synch. If you want double system sound, you can get REAL pro equipment or even better prosumer mics that put the pop to shame. Also, when you review, don't say or write on screen "camera" we know it's a camera but this mic says, "iPhone mic" so say DSLR or iPhone as camera. I had to go to the end to find out this WAS NOT going into the iPhone and was being synched on another recording system -which makes the mic worthless (because you can use "real" mics then not cheap mics like the Pop.)

True sounds way better without your processing both of those mics

I preferred the Pop Voice! It sounded more clear!

Fun review! Thanks for the tips about synching audio and tricks too. 👍 I'm getting a lav mic for vlogging and podcasting.

Have you tested it out on the Sony ZV-E10 camera, a MacBook Pro or the iPhone 13 Pro?
Great video. thanks for sharing.
Have you tried it out on a webcam?
Thanks for this video!
Does this microphone work if I record direct on video from the Iphone?
that is, without having to record voice and image separately.
Thank you
Yes it does!
Thanks!
The overhead mic sounds shallow though? Sorry.
I just can't seem to get mine to work. I have an iPhone 12. Very disappointing
Send it back and they'll probably send you a new one as long as it's within the return window. (30 days)

Boom
I’m not being critical about you, but that Lavalier mic sounds absolutely terrible. The worst I’ve heard yet. Pass. Thank you for saving me some cash.
