      My 2017 Silverado has the P0304 error code. So its a misfire on the #4 cylinder. Rough idling, shaking, etc. I am fearful it may be another fuel injector has crapped out! Apparently the 2017s have had many issues with their fuel injectors. Working on it again, today to trace down the problem(s)!

    If you put the crow foot on at 90 deg to the line of the torque wrench, it will not create a difference in the amount of torque applied to the fastener from what the wrench is set for.

    Having similar issues, p0107 & p050d, could this be from faulty injectors ? Or will injectors throw its on code. Sounds like sucking air from under intake. Replace injector seals but not injectors still same codes. Any help greatly appreciated

    Good info. Another way to deal with the crow foot torque issue is just orient the crow foot off the side of the head. That gives it the correct lever arm distance the lateral offset doesn't affect the torque calculation

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  Рік тому

      Your best option is probably walnut blasting. But I used a GDI cleaner on a pipe cleaner type brush. This was after I vacuumed up all the debris i could. Anything that fell in the cylinder would be very small carbon pieces from brushing. Not a big thing.

    • @Franklinveterinarycenter1of4

      rotate the cylinder to TDC and this will close the intake valve where the debris will not go into said cylinder. Rotate using a 36 mm socket and rachet on the crackshaft bolt.

    • @paulkelley86

      It sounds like an exhaust leak. You can hear the compression blowing out of that particular cylinder and spraying water in that area changed the sound which helped pinpoint the source.

    Having a misfire on cyl 5 and 7 on a supercharged 2014. new plugs wires and 2 coils later same issue still missing on boost. passive driving is ok. Compression test showed 100 psi in 5and 7. 135\145 in all the rest. What was the compression in your test?

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  6 місяців тому

      It's been a while so i don't recall but the difference between cylinders is as or more important than the reading. 5/7 should not be that much lower. You probably realize that the cylinders being next to each other and both low are pointing toward a head gasket. I would proceed with a cylinder leakage/leak down test. I have videos on that too. If you pressurize cylinder 5 on TDC compression and you hear air blowing out the cylinder 7 hole and vice versa you will need to pull the head and check for blown head gasket on the thin part between those 2 cylinders. Also check for head warpage or crack, I have videos on both of those too.

      Anytime you are disconnecting fuel lines you should yes. But do you NEED to? Lots of techs don't follow the procedure. But if it's not something you do all day i would follow service manual pretty closely. If the truck is still together just pull out the fuel pump relay and run the engine for a few seconds till the fuel is sprayed and pressure will be relieved.

    Was this a constant misfire or sporadic for this truck? My 2017 6.2 has been having a sporadic misfire that I think may be an injector issue. AFM is turn off. I've replaced the plugs and wires. I have a sporadic misfire on 5, but only really at idle. Then I have a sporadic misfire on 4, but only above about 35% throttle and in 7th or 8th gear. Both are totally sporadic and may not happen for a couple of days... or happen everyday.

      This was missing all the time.
      You may be onto something with your afm thoughts, he just called me describing a similar concern with a p0300 and a ticking. After being disabled doesn't rule out a collapsed lifter issue.
      A compression test may shed some light.

      @@paulkelley86 I thought that too, but I don't have any ticking at all; not even the classic GM startup tick that I'm used to from my 1998 Yukon. It just sporadically idles a little rough (#5) or runs like crap (#4) driving uphill on the interstate. At this point I've got a dedicated screen setup on my tuner to show misfires for each cylinder and it's always the same with 4 or 5.

    I just had new fuel rail installed and now have low compression and misfire on one cylinder. Truck cab smells like raw fuel and motor has a noticeable air pushing/noise to it. Shop says I have low compression, burnt piston, and scrape on cylinder wall. How could this have happened?

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  11 місяців тому +1

      You would really want to get some details on the diagnosis. If they are quoting a burned piston and scraped cylinder they must have sent a boroscope camera down the spark plug hole. It it possible to get a photo of that damage?
      Or
      And I am hesitant to say because it is not meant to accuse the shop but it is a possibility...
      Debris fell in the hole when the fuel rail was out, which would go straight into the cylinder. Or a fuel injector was stuck spraying wide open and washed oil from the cylinder wall causing rings to scape the wall. Or its simply a misdiagnosis and the noise is caused by a damaged injector seal which would blow compression by. That would cause the low compression, the noise, and the fuel smell since it is not combusting and simply being pumped back out as an air fuel mixture. That would be my #1, but it's a theory and really the technician is the only person who has hands on the truck to actually diagnose.

    Goodevening I have a 2014 silverado 6.2l with codes p0420 and p0430 I replaced cats and 02 sensors and still getting the codes back I have good compression on engine. u think I might have a bad injector any tht can be causing those codes to come back any feed back would help me thanks

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  Рік тому +2

      Short story, not likely. Especially if it is not misfiring terribly. More likely a stuck open injector would cause a fuel trim rich, and a stuck closed/restricted/inop would cause fuel trim lean.
      The longer story... P0420 and p0430 DTC logic is basically that the post cat o2 sensors are seeing too much variation in oxygen. A good cat should clean that up by absorbing excess, then release when deficient. If there is too much variation, the code(s) set. The next step would be to graph front o2 readings and rear o2 readings to interpret. Bad cats cause those codes all the time, occasionally there are other issues that can, but they would be issues that would cause abnormal air to enter the exhaust which would be picked up by the rear o2. If the cats are working and no weird leaks like that, the rear o2 should be pretty smooth around 0.45 volts. Not a lot of variation. This is because the cat absorbs excess oxygen, then releases it when needed. There should be minimal up and down oxygen/o2 voltage by the time it goes through the cat. Those codes set when there is too much variation. You sure those cats are legit? Sometimes aftermarket dont have the correct amounts of precious metals and dont clean up the variation as well as OEM. Also there is a chance the OEM engineers write the pass/fail thresholds too tight and borderline cats fail, and aftermarket cats fail. The fix in that unlikely case is an ECM reprogram to open up the thresholds which would make the borderline pass. If this is the case there would be a TSB and available software update. I am happy to reply briefly but cant afford to go digging for TSB and what not for you.
      I would not get fixated on the idea of a bad injector. I would work on a way to monitor and graph rear (post cat or aka downstream) o2 voltage.
