We decided to perform and record Popper’s Elfentanz opus 39 (Dance of the Elves), one of the most virtuosic and exciting encore written for cello, but this time in a very personal arrangement for clarinets, glockenspiel and… TRIANGLE of course!
David Popper was a famous Bohemian cellist and prolific composer (1843-1913), he made an incredible career as a virtuoso cellist, a chamber musician (he played for Brahms himself with the Budapest quartet), a cello and composition teacher, writing all type of repertoire and notably some instructional pieces as the incredible cello studies (I may record a few in the future 😇). David Popper was one of the last great cellists who did not use an endpin. An 1880 drawing of Popper playing in a string quartet shows that although he started his cello career without using an endpin, he adopted it later in his life.
On this video, Anastasia is playing on a 1743 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini. I’m playing 3 different Buffet Légende in A (Green Line, Mopani and boxwood) with Vandoren BD4 and V12 3,5 reeds, a Buffet Tosca Bass (Vandoren B40 and 3,5 traditional reeds) and a Buffet Contrabass from 1935.
Hope you’ll like the result and don't hesitate to give me ideas 😁
Take care and stay safe!

The unexpected harmony of cello and clarinet, truly 'fairy‐like' tone unlike other performances, and the proper tempo and tone. This is the best version of youtube I've seen!!
If only pianists regularly played accompanying parts with such enthusiasm and nuance!...
I am amazed at how absolutely effortless she makes that look. Just incredible.
Anastasia is a rising star? She is
it couldn't be better (especially that bass saxophone is like "I'm done now and I am getting paid as much as you guys" !)
Can i have a request Poet and The Peasant hehe😊😁
they're taking the clarinetists to isengard
Impressive and beautiful, and quite an editing job once again. Is she entering the Baldeyrou school of cloning and multi-instument playing (semester 1 = triangle) ? Thank you so much for all this year's collection of treasures that inspire us so much, and have a great summer full of music, we'll be back in september too !
I need his spinning song with you two
MY JAW IS ON THE FLOOR! 😭 anyone wanna buy my clarinets!? Nicholas is the best clarinettist in the world right now 👍

Actually, this is the best cello performance I've found on youtube. Perfect tempo (not stupidly fast), and the performance is filled with characters, dynamics, phrasing and story-telling. Great arrangement too. Bravo!
Bravisisissimo... Just brilliant.. You are an alien, Nicolas..
Nice video to start a new working week
so far so good
incredible
Amazing! The cellist is wonderful, congrats to her, and of course to you to give us this pearl of performance.
bravo!
Jajajajajaja maravilloso! Que buena interpretación y arreglo, saludos!!
Encore un pur moment de bonheur musical... Un seul mot me vient en tête. BRAVO !
