  • Dear friends, first of all I would you like to wish you a happy new year! 2020 taught us so many lessons we’ll remember for life, let’s try to bring joy all around, let’s be positive, optimistic, and enjoy the present ✨
In a recent survey on Instagram and Facebook, you asked me to record Mozart Magic Flute overture so here it is, and on period instruments ! 🥳
The magic flute (in German Die Zauberflöte) is an opera in two acts to a German libretto by Emanuel Shikaneder. The work is in the form of a Singspiel, a popular form during the time it was written that included both singing and spoken dialogue. The work premiered on 30 September 1791 at Schikaneder's theatre, the Freihaus- Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna, just two months before the composer's premature death.
I would like to deeply thank my super talented friends who joined for this video :
@kossenkoalexis (classical flute) @gabrielpidoux (classical oboe) @ilnd.fr (David Douçot d’Ortega-classical bassoon) @david_guerrier (natural trumpet) @antoineganaye (sackbut) and last but not least @ydubost (double bass)
Thank you guys for your talent and your kindness 🙏✨
As always, there are few Easter eggs in this video, will you be able to find all 6 ? 😁
Take care and see you in 2 weeks for a... Chopin study !!!

Nicolas, your videos are BY FAR the most accomplished and creative of ALL these "lockdown videos" being done at the moment. I am absolutely amazed by every single aspect of these - the arrangements, performances, guest musicians, audio and video quality and of course the best video editing I have seen! You can really be incrediblely proud of what you're achieving here, thank you for sharing with us! Best from South Africa :)

makes me sad I didn't pay enough attention when in Berlin in70-73 and was visiting museums,
      The Musikinstrumenten-Museum
The Musikinstrumenten-Museum in Berlin is one of the largest and most important collections of historical instruments in the world. Despite major losses during the Second World War, the collection includes around 3,500 instruments of which more than 800 are on permanent display.

I seriously believe that you should publish your arrangements for these wonderful warhorses for college wind bands all through America. There’s a lot of directors that I believe would like a shot at some of these virtuoso arrangements. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Now that I have watched it while I am wide awake, all I can say is: Bravo! I will probably never get to Europe and see this in an elegant opera house, dressed to the nines and rubbing shoulders with the elite. But, you know what? This is probably much better. Je suis stupéfait.
    Vraiment Nicolas.
    Buffet&Crampon devrait y penser.
Pour le reste, tout ces musiciens et vous, monsieur l'artiste, et ces professionnels jouant parfaitement Mozart.
    J'adore ce compositeur...
Ces quelques lignes ne vous rendront point justices Monsieur !
    Non.

Ça me fait tellement plaisir, merci beaucoup !

Thank you Nicolas for your fabulous videos. One positive thing jto come out of the lockdown! No doubt you will have increased buffet crampons sales! The new Boxwood clarinet looks really nice! I was given an old boxwood clarinet several years ago and it was restored by Paul Carrington of Newark in the UK. Unfortunately the mouthpiece was broken but he did something with An old E flat clarinet mouthpiece. I think for the normal run of play I am stuck in my 1970s R13 clarinet and Peter Eaton clarinet. I don't know how many new clarinets we are going to see! Once again thank you for your videos and your team with musicians and the manufacturers of course - God bless you all - Bill - UK

Thank you so much for your kind words Bill ! I never tried Peter Eaton’s clarinets but the 1970’s R13 are just amazing ! My period clarinets are not original copies from Grenser, that’s why I was lucky to get some brand new mouthpieces, exactly in between the size of an actual Bb and Eb mouthpiece. But still very different to play ! All the best and happy new year !
