ROSSINI The Barber of Seville overture | Nicolas BALDEYROU and friends

- Dear Friends, I hope you’re well ! Today’s video was composed by a composer like no other, who can instantly bring so much joy and hope, the one and only Gioachino Rossini !
Composed in 1816 and premiered in Rome, The Barber of Seville by Gioacchino Rossini established several records:it was composed in only two weeks, by a 24-year old who had already written 16 operas! The music flows forth with breathtaking limpidity. Serenades, duets and ensembles brighten the comedy with vocal flourishes and verbal antics. And yet, the genius of Rossini resides in mastering the physical crescendo, designed to increase tension until the audience is boiling with impatience and ready to explode. The overture immediately offers a surprise: a tutti warns the audience that the show has started and then a delightful melody takes over, is repeated and swells to the breaking point...Laughter and rhythms burst forth and overflow. All the insolence of Beaumarchais’s play is captured in the madcap universe created by Rossini.
In this arrangement, I used all my set of period of the early XIXth century, 2 clarinets in A, 2 clarinets in C, one basset clarinet and one basset horn and of course a beautiful natural horn 🔥 I would like to thank all my super nice and talented friends bringing their period instruments at home to complete the piece: Alexis Kossenko, Gabriel Pidoux, David Douçot d’Ortega, Yann Dubost, Javier Rossetto and Antoine Ganaye 🙏🏼😍✨
I hope you'll like it and don't hesitate to give me ideas 😁
Take care and stay safe! ❤️

But how do you always manage to be so original and innovative? very good, a lot of respect
💙
Thank you so much, I do my best and I’m having so much fun and pleasure to work on these masterpieces :-)))
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 Might you have a plan to ever work on Tannhauser Overture by Wagner in the future 😍😍😍
The Horn solo😍
Thank you Fabrizio ! That was the most difficult part for me 😓😁
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 indeed, my brother and father are both hornist, we said the same...great solo!!!!
@@nicolasahumada thanks to all of you then 😊🥳
Italy loves you so much 🇮🇹 💙
Happy to hear that, Italy is my favorite country in the world 😍
Bellisimo que gusto escuchar maestrosssss
I adore classical pieces performed on period instruments.
So do I, thank you so much Jerry !
Mille mercis, ça me touche beaucoup !
La perfection absolue
"BRAVISSIMO👍".
There are so many wonderful things to compliment. Most of all you are creating a new way to experience great music for new audiences.
I truly appreciate, thank you so much !
I can't believe that you are a world class clarinettist AND can not only play but lip trill on hand horn . I take off my hat to you sir!
Thank you so much! 😊🙏🏼🔥
omg nicolas finally bringing it home with a horn solo!!
Primo corno super solo👍🥇🔝
Merci beaucoup !!!
W il cornista Nicolas !!! ... virtuoso clarinettista !
Thank you Giuseppe ! French horn is my second instrument ;-))
Congratulations to Nicolas and all the friends. Is nice to see you playing together. I'll hope you do more videos together, you are amazing.
Thank you so much :-)) it’s a great team, I’m very lucky !
Great work with the horn too!!! It is absolutely splendid. And the sound of period instruments is so beautiful too, more mellow and natural. Amazed as always
Thank you so much Moises !
Bravo! Wonderful arrangement and marvelous performance, on period instruments!!! Loved the shaving cameo (easter egg?) at 2:30. Great video editing too!! 🙂
Super beau !! ❤
G R E A T!
And this is not because I am from Seville!
Ja ja ja ja ja.
Many thanks!
Happy man to live in Sevilla ! Thank you for your kind words !
Bravo !
Assisti muito, muito...😮😍😍
Muito obrigado !
Dude. How....
Last video when you told me this was going to be the next one, I'm always excited for whatever your next arrangement will be, but honestly I was kind of like "Oh ok, Barber of Seville, cool.", thinking I've heard it so many times and there was not too much more to get out of it.
You totally and utterly shut me down and showed me the fool that I am, and thank you for it. This was SO GOOD! What the hell?!?! It was like hearing it for the first time! Once again your audio quality and mixing is spot on, the arrangement is phenomenal (I really liked how the bass part became WAY more interesting and intense), like... I can keep going on. And will!
I am rhetorically asking why do you all play on freaking period instruments. The sound from them is so good. Is it for authenticity sake? Are you all just so goddamn good on modern instruments that you just want the challenge of making it sound good on old-ass equipment? Are you all a period ensemble? Are you all just wacky and think music in 2021 is played on these relics and don't know they evolved into a modern form? This rhetorical question kind of became several actual questions, pardon me, but please feel free to not answer any of them; I enjoy the instruments greatly.
Your natural horn chops are disgusting, please stop. And for clarification sake, by that I mean keep doing that and incorporate it more. But you know there's also like, a modern horn that is probably WAY easier to play, right?
I'm never going to suggest another piece to you ever again. Let the master work and do your thing, I can't express how much I enjoy everything you do. Thank you.
Oh yeah, and like, the editing of the videos is killer too.
Thank you so much for your comment and happy you enjoyed the video ! I mostly play period instruments for authenticity, getting the original sound of the wind section composers were looking for, also because in my opinion, their sound is mixing better than modern and the balance is much easier and natural, especially for the brass instruments. And it’s also a refreshing challenge for practicing 😁 and last but not least, nobody did that kind of arrangements on period instruments to my knowledge, so I’m happy to explore a new path 🙏🏼😊✨
Don’t let it go to your head people yes you’re very talented but I’m only subscribing because of Nicholas’ haircut! There! Bravo!🤣🙏🏻🙏🏻
With music like this, one can only be well ! Thank you to all the very talented players for this musical treat. Kudos to you for the not-so-simple horn part and the tasty slap additions (Rossini might very well have loved it).
My suggestion of the week is to do a clarinet quartet's version of Scriabin's Sonata-Fantaisie in G# Minor (the one composed in 1886 when he was only 14, not the Sonata No.2 Op.19 which bears the same name).
Thank you Philippe for your kind words and your nice suggestions ! I’m going to listen to this sonata right now !
Hi Nicolas, what instrument do you play?
Nicolas: Yes
Was that a lip trill on the horn?
And... what instrument do you not play ;-)) !!!???
Nicolas: *It's* *complicated.*
Thank you Jay ! It’s definitely a lip trill ! No other choice on a natural horn 😓
All the strings 😁
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 If you learn oboe, bassoon and double bass you could do the Gran Partita yourself!!!!!
Thank You !!! Brilliant , Love it !!!
Thank you very much David !
I love the guy looking in while shaving! BTW nice hand horn technique.
Thank you so much Dave !
Bravo Maestro!! Always the best!
Thank you so much Luis !

As talented as you are as an instrumentalist, I would not doubt you ALSO are the arranger of all these pieces. Just, WOW. I am dumbfounded and blown away by your talent and this performance. 🤯
Wow, each one is more amazing than the last! The technique required for those period instruments is wild. LOL at the little shaving cameo. Thanks as always for sharing such fine creations with us!

From a hornist, I truly appreciate, thank you so much !

You know that this is Bugs Bunny music, don’t you? This is exquisite. Love it.
Bravo, a fantastic performance! We now know you are not only a brilliant clarinetest, arranger and video editor but also a star on the natural horn. I loved it.
Thank you so much Steve ! I’m also happy that it was a recording, I guessed I needed 10 times to do the horn solo properly 😱😂
Superbe solo de cor...

If you could see us here in the "states" (US) as we watch and share your spectacular videos--- We absolutely love your excellence and artistry, not to mention your charming demeanor. From a mostly retired but always practicing professional clarinetist, Bravo, bravo, bravo.
Dear Nicolas,
I discovered you a couple of weeks ago, looking for a recording of the Gade pieces. Actually it was quite frustrating until I found yours.
Meanwhile I'm just more then deeply impressed by your easyness and your musicality, including the recordings with your class.
If I'd be young I would try very hard to be accepted in your class. I'm a decend clarinetplayer and solo-clarinettist in a middle sized german opera orchestra, but what you are doing with all kind of clarinets (and I don't want to mention the Horn, especially in the Barber) is just incredible and I would not have thought possible. You are finally somebody who can hold on with Louis Cahuzac.
What you do is, what I call clarinetplaying. I bow deeply before you. Please go on.
Oh, and I love your humor!
Thank you so much for your kind words Günter, I truly appreciate!
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 and you take the time to answer all the comments. When do you sleep?
Muy lindo, una sonoridad majestuosa unida a una visual única que da gran realse a esta Obertura.

Hi Nicolas, excellent as usual! (an euphemism...)
One of the location is the 'Teatro Farnese' in the Palazzo Pilotta in Parma? ....astonishing Teatro, that I visited years ago, and which could inspire you to an arrangement of Monteverdi or music of the Seventeenth Century...(at any rate you could play any baroque instruments...😁😁) see you soon!
Absolutely Giuseppe, this is the treatro Farnese ! I went there last summer and I loved the place. I love Monteverdi but I should find the adequate instruments then 😓😁
Absolutely stunning, Nicolas! Incredible job
Thank you so much Marc 🙏🏼😊✨
All those gorgeous old instruments! 😍❤️❤️🥰
Yessss! 😊🔥
Loved the "flying bassoon reed" ahahah
Amazing video as always 👏🏻👏🏻

This is amazing on so many levels, I just finished my clarinet Grade 3 exam and got my results back. I hope and can play as well as you one day.

The horn solo was so good it’s insane🤯
Thank you Ricky !
Joy for ears and eyes. I hope one day I can try one of these traditional instruments. They look vulnerable.
Please do if you have the occasion 🤩 the most difficult is to come back to modern afterwards...
Very beautiful! My compliments to all
Thank you Alessandro !
Bravo à tous pour ce moment musical et continuez à ne pas trop vous prendre au sérieux.
Mille mercis Eric !
This is absolutely amazing! As a horn player, I am jealous of your lip trills :)

Excellent as usual! Just WOW! Well done gentlemen. So much liveliness and fun. Some would say, Nicolas, that you are the orchestra. Lol You say you don’t play strings, but you could make a case otherwise because of piano. Lol. IMO you’re very underrated on every level. As always, thanks for sharing your gifts with the rest of the world. Respect and admiration from the beautiful state of Oregon in the USA!
So happy that you like it, thank you Julie ! I hope to visit Oregon one day 🤞🏻 all the best !
