ROSSINI William Tell overture | Nicolas BALDEYROU and friends !

- Dear friends, I hope you’re well and all spent a very nice summer despite of the strange conditions ! It has been a long I didn’t post anything but I wanted to record a longer piece as usual, and I have to say that took quite a lot of time 😅😊 Then I decided to arrange the whole Rossini Guillaume Tell overture in my personal wind band version ❤️✨
This real symphonic poem ahead of its time starts with an incredible cello quintet describing a sunrise over the Swiss Alps, supported by basses and some timpani rolls announcing the storm coming. And I felt that this introduction would particularly fit for a bass clarinet ensemble and a contrabass.
The second movement of William Tell’s overture, the storm, is a highly dramatic moment depicting the episode in the 4th act when William is weathering a storm on a ship on his way to jail, taking the rudder and running aground on the beach.
The third movement is the famous « Ranz des vaches » that Rossini chose to be played by the English horn and the flute.
A Ranz des Vaches or Kuhreihen is a simple melody traditionally played on the horn by the Swiss Alpine herdsmen as they drove their cattle to or from the pasture. The Kuhreihen was linked to the Swiss nostalgia and Homesickness (also known as mal du Suisse "Swiss illness" or Schweizerheimweh "Swiss homesickness").
In my personal version, we’ll have lovely sheeps instead of cows, hope you won’t mind 🙏😊
Suddenly, the peaceful pastoral scene is interrupted by a fast-paced, high-intensity galop, which was a popular style of ballroom dance at the time. Titled “The March of the Swiss Soldiers”, it points toward the majestic final scenes of the opera, where the Swiss Armed Forces free their homeland from Austrian rule.
I would like to thank again and again all my friends who joined me for this video :
Anne-Sophie Neves piccolo
Magali Mosnier flute
Hélène Devilleneuve Oboe
Julien Hardy French bassoon
David Guerrier Trumpet
Antoine Ganaye Trombone
Stay safe, have a very nice Sunday and see you in two weeks for a brand new video ! ❤️
Not only is he a clarinetist, he's also a french horn player, a triangle player, a timpani player, a cymbal player and an editing expert.
That's what I call a legend.
Thank you so much Alvis !
Also, was he the one operating the sheep puppets? Or they're a costume and he had to wear that. Either way, one of the underappreciated classical legends of the internet. If he and twoset could collaborate he wouldn't have to play the string parts anymore!
He can also shoot a crossbow.
He's also an excellent dancer - check this out - ua-cam.com/video/QxnvhGKsc_E/v-deo.html
… and witty with it!
I love that extensive use of bass clarinet chorale!!!
Happy you line it ! Thank you Dmytro !
It was lovely!
I too felt that the Bass Clarinet choice was especially inspired. And I'm not just saying that because I started playing it when I was in my early teens... and now I'm a trillion years ago... just beautiful and very much aligned with the spirit of the music and the mountains.
In Rossini's arrangement of the tune it is split into 5 cello parts.
Son: Dad, Why is my sister called Rose?
Dad: Because Mom likes Roses.
Son: Ah! Thanks Dada.
Dad: Of Nothing Video of Nicolas Baldeyrou.
😂😂😂 thank you Pietro !
Could’ve been because your mom likes rose etudes
SeltzerWater 101 😂😂😂👍🏻
of nothing = de nada? lol
of nothing could also be de rien
PLEASE play and record as much as humanly possible while you are in this world!!!
Your gift to posterity!!
Hi Nicolas - fantastic, fun and fabulous ! this video could be entitled - "how to get 3 young boys from the ages of 7 - 14 to listen to a piece of classical music from begining to end". I know because my 3 boys loved it. Such an inspiration !
I feel like I should have bought a ticket for this! Thank you for creating such great content
Thank you so much ! Happy that you like it :-)))
All celli should be jealous of how magnificent the introduction sounds on bass clarinet. :-) I continue to enjoy visiting your recordings with and without friends. Thanks for making them. They help me keep going at work and inspire me to keep practicing.
6:39 I've never seen such expressiveness from the triangle player
😂😂😂 triangle is all my life 😁
you were fortunate to find lovely Swiss milkmaids who could also play lovely oboe, cor anglais and flute and piccolo. Bravo/brava to all, this is truly virtuosic and very inspiring.
😂 it was a long quest to find them ! Thank you so much for your kind words !
The overture is perfect with winds and percussion. Then we have plenty of Easter eggs: the lederhosen, the muppets, the need practice shirt with the contra, the Roland Garros shirt to remember us of France, William Tell at the triangle, Tirol scenery, the arrow and the apple - no teddy bears were injured... It's an awesome video!
This is inspired, inspiring, insanely awesome, and hilarious!!! I love the sheep and that your buddies dressed the part. Thank you! You, with your musicianship, your theatrics, your instrumentalist friends hopping on full throttle ahead, and your video editor buddy’s exact crispness have made my rainy day bright.❤
The altissimo range on your bass clarinet sounds impossibly good. I’ve never been so jealous in my life. Well done!
Hahaha, thank you Connor ! Just need a good mouthpiece 😄
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 Can you tell us what mouthpiece you use?
Nicolas,you are my hero !😭😭😭
So yeah, I've binged almost every video you've released. Your talent is beyond remarkable, your musicianship is enviable, and your entire presentation with costuming, backgrounds, and narrative are masterfully entertaining. What gets me though, is how you've made remote playing with your colleagues sound absolutely spectacular. The audio mixing is second to none. I often listen to your arrangements without any visual aid and am left wanting nothing in sound quality. Brilliant, dynamite job, keep it up! It's TwoSets loss they don't feature you more; you're pretty much the Paganini wind player, and video presenter to boot, that they were once looking for.
Thank you so much for your kind words ! I really appreciate ! I try to get better in sound recording and video editing each time but I still have a long way to go 😅 don’t worry, I don’t expect anything from twoset, I just like very much their channel and love this merch !
I don't think TwoSet have ever featured Nicolas, I've tried to reach out via numerous methods but have never got a response, it's such a shame.
Really cool as usual, but jeez i can't believe you bought that many costumes just for the backscenes ^^
malfante gautier thank you ! Didn’t buy them, just rented for a cheap price ;-))
Making your colleagues wear them must have been expensive though... ;-) Incredible display of talent and humor.
Nelson ThePrimate 😂😂😂 they loved it !
The music is fantastic but the William Tell cameos in the background really complete the video. 💛
Piccolo and flute players are amazing! Very precise, to be able to play super-fast passages in perfect timing together... wow!!
He has the power of LingLing by wearing those shirts.
I wish I had 😂
This is brilliant!!! It goes without question that the playing is top notch, but the costumes and theatrics make the video. And the sheep!!!! Yes! Lol
00:00 I. Andante: Prelude
02:31 II. Allegro: La tempesta
04:55 III. Andante: Ranz des Vaches
07:08 IV. Allegro vivace: Finale.
A few days ago I wondered: „When does Nicolas Baldeyrou release a new video? It has been a while since his last one.“
And ‚Bam!‘
The sound of the wind ensemble is balanced. The scenes tell a story. What more? 😊
Thank you lot! We appreciate your work and effort!
Rhythm & Harmony thank you so much ! That took quite a lot of time 😅
Not just an arrangement! You have revealed new things we were not aware of in this masterpiece! Bravo!!
Thank you so much Walter 😊🙏✨
Dude is wearing Twoset merch!
Yep, love it !
Nicolas Baldeyrou deserves to be called Mr. Perfection! I'm delighted!
Thanks so much and happy new year ! 🥂✨😊
Congratulations on this gigantic project! You and your colleagues are so amazing! You playing is stunning, amazing articulation. Bravo 👏👏🎶🎼🐑🐑🐑🐑
Cathy A Ogram thank you so much dear Cathy for your kindness !
A few things to comment on. First, not only are the musical transcriptions and transpositions of this well known overture spot on, the whole ensemble playing is so captivating and mesmerizing that in many respects it outdoes the original Rossini composition. This is probably because the reduced instrumentation allows for increased clarity of much of the faster passages.
I too am a musician (piano and bassoon) as well as an audio and video engineer...I know how difficult it would be to put together a project such as this, especially coordinating participation from your "cloned" musicians. Bravo! to one and all!
I also must say that what I found particularly entertaining was the inserted, pleasantly humorous but not over the top animation...especially the Mo Town Sheep swaying to the music in the 3rd movement with flute and Cor Anglais. The costumes and background scenery are also nicely done.
Once again, congratulations! to one and all. I will look forward to more productions from you folks.
never knew movement 3 was from this overture. consider me learned. phenomenal job to all featured
Thank you so much !
He has created a new 'Art Form' - BRAVO!
Thank you so much Ken!
I love, no , I absolutely adore, how you not only played many of the different voices in your choir, but also put it all in front of a really neat background that goes with the music. I’ve only been to Switzerland once but it was up in the snowy Alps. Wait, the snow and mountains was Austria. In Switzerland, our tour group just saw the lion bas relief in the mountain. Anyway, how cool!! I appreciate your efforts!
Aside from the astonishing level of sheer musical marvellousness, that leaves this amateur horn player agog its M Baldeyrou’s lovely po faced focussed triangle player that takes the plaudits for me.
🙏🏼😊🔥🔥🔥
0:00-10:38 is the bit we all came for
P.S With your clever editing, great arranging, and all that talented playing, that storm has never before felt so real!!
Unbelivable pleasure to hear your videos. Everything is just so perfect... 😮
Here we are, me and my children, enjoying this fantastic concert!!! They've been waiting (and asking almost everyday) for this, especially my little clarinetist. Merci beaucoup!
That’s such a pleasure to hear that, thank you so much !
Vous êtes tous fantastiques ! Bravo Nicolas pour le montage et l'humour ! Hélène et Magali, vous êtes trop mignonnes en tyroliennes :-)
Excellents costumes ! 😃
Et bien sûr, fabuleuses performances !
Bravi tutti ! 👌
Nicolas, youre just a fantastic musician and a funny guy. Heard youve been in Bremen at the clarinet days. Maybe I can make it next year. 😇🤗
Nul doute que si Rossini avait eu des clarinettes basses sous la main, il eut écrit son intro pour ces instruments ! L'introduction est absolument magnifique ! Quel plaisir ! Merci !
Mille mercis cher Georges, ça me touche beaucoup !
Prochaine étape : Shaun au triangle !
J'adooooorrrre ce décalage et ce kitch.
Des artistes formidables qui jouent à tous les sens du mot.
Bravo.... Again and again !!!
On s’est bien amusé c’est vrai ! Merci beaucoup Anne !
Brilliant! Bravo! Standing ovation! Show stopper! When I was in music school, I would have loved to attend recital where Mo-Town-Sheep dance in the background. Bass clarinet is delegated to background in wind music so much it is amazing to hear a bass clarinet choir!
Thank you so much ! I love this dark low ensemble too, not enough bass ensembles in our repertoire 😭
Love the sheep!
Wow! Posting to FB for all music lovers, including U.S. Army Band members everywhere. Love it!
Thank you for sharing John ! 🙏🙏🙏😊✨
Totally mesmerizing ! Fabulous playing and arranging, and totally over the top with the costumes and the adorable sheep
Thank you so much Judy, I truly appreciate !
Bro I cannot understand how you are such an phenomenal clarinetist and an amazing horn player. I don’t know any horn players who are also incredible at another instrument. I spend all my time practicing horn and can’t imagine putting the same amount of time into another instrument
Edit: and an amazing percussionist and video / sound editor goddamn
Thank you so much David but honestly I’m just a very average horn player, it’s really for fun and by passion because I always loved the sound, and started practicing when I was 20 !
A+ talents in all Clarinets, Horns, musicianship, arranging, and production! Not to mention your social talents in bringing together your friends! Bravo!
Thank you so much Bob, it was lot of work but it’s really rewarding when you get everything work together 😊
always in shock at how amazing his bass clarinet tone is
Thanks so much Ashley !
I have never heard a bass clarinet chorale in my entire life!! Beautiful
Thank you so much !
Incredible on absolutely every level - stunning orchestration, beautiful performance, perfect mixing and excellent video editing. I really enjoyed this!!
Thank you so much Heinrich !!!
Bravo. The playing is spot on and the humor is priceless
Thank you so much Daryl !
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 you are inspiring! you make me really want to learn how to double tongue.
Very nice work on this! I'm very impressed with the intonation, even in some tricky keys... and the timing, especially when collaborating with other people. And you even managed to somewhat emulate the acoustic stage presence, very good mixing and editing, that's a lot of work, mate. =D
I hope you get the opportunity to demonstrate that unique Buffet contrabass on its own for us. It's always nice to see those older models in action, what they are and are not capable of, like an archive of sorts.
Thank you so much for your kind words ! Unfortunately I had to give this contra back, the high register was not functioning, maybe because it stayed for years unused in the museum...
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 um... Weird idea... Bottesini Double bass concerto no.2 3rd movement on the Buffet Contrabass?
Damn!!!! This must have been such hard work to put this together. Bravo guys!!! Bravo!!!
Oh yes that was hard work , you’re right 😅 thank you so much !!
I have nothing else to say but Bravo, and Thank you, dear Nicolas & Everyone who contributed to this colossal project!
You’re so kind ! I’m really lucky to have such good colleagues who just made that by pure friendship ✨
Brilliant as usual he makes music AND makes you Laugh !!All such stunning players Bravo Bravo I Love every bar !! 🤪😆👏👏
Thanks so much Darryl!
OH my goodness!!!!!! This is so satisfying to watch. The playing is on another level.....on the backend there's the practise then recording plus filming plus costumes plus editing....WOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much ! That was definitely a lot of work but I’m really happy if you enjoyed it 😊🙏✨
I love how you ‘balance out’ the Bass Clarinets with the Contrabass, very nice indeed!
At least I think it’s a contrabass..
It is ! bravo ! A unique model, an old buffet prototype. Thank you 🙏😊✨
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 I would LOVE to see more of your amazing Contrabass, it's sad that it is hard to hear in this pieces though. Well, I guess that's the point of a Contrabass anyway 😁
Unerglaublich!
Vielen Dank 😁
If there is one good thing to come of this pandemic, it would be this video...spectacular in every way!! Thank you!
Thank you so much Tim !
Génial ! J'adore. Tout ça me donne envie de me remettre à la clarinette basse. Et la contrebasse est très impressionnante ! Merci pour cette vidéo.
Oh ça me fait plaisir ! Oui il faut de remettre à la basse, c’est tellement plaisant 🤩
The apple shot is epic!! Bravo to all!
Thank you so much!
always the highest quality of playing. love the sheeps. thank you for making my day:)
You’re very welcome ! Thank you !
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 🥰🥰
Brilliant, wow!!
Ha..ha.. .!!! I just noticed the apple and you archers reaction to hitting the target. I started laughing out loud. Priceless!!
Thank you 😁😁😁 it was fun to shoot that sequence !
omg the sheep that are placed in this are so cute!!
Wowoww, so good, I'm really impressed !!! Everyone played so well!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Duyyyhuyyy y thank you ! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😊✨
The sheep… 😂 brilliant as always!
This is the first video I've seen of yours and I'm now a subscriber. Clarinet and oboe player.
Thanks so much ! And respect for playing oboe, I never managed properly 😭
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 I got braces when I was 12 and my orthodontist insisted I give up the clarinet. I got ok with oboe, but never as good in tone as I did with the clarinet.
I was thrilled ,love the cast! Your just the cutest thing since.
Thank you so much !
hahahaha what in the shaun the sheep is going on, immediately became your sub upon seeing that ✨extra✨ background actor
Le soin apporté au montage et à la mise en scène met vraiment en valeur un travail déjà tellement conséquent et appréciable !
Mille mercis ! 😊🙏🏼
Outstanding! Bravo! Standing ovation! Absolutely fantastic! Encore!! Danke!
Thank your your effort!!!

Bravo, bravissimo!!! 😮👏👏👏👏👏
🙏🏼😊✨
This work is, one of the most beautiful amazing think I ever seen, on this hard times we facing write now. thank you.
I’m happy you like it ! It was really a lot of work 😅
I so respect this video! I played flute and piccolo in a Community Symphonic Wind Ensemble when I lived in Michigan. At one rehearsal our director announced we were going to play at a concert in two weeks and the pieces were: William Tell Overture and Charge of the Light Brigade - we had only three rehearsals before the performance. He told us to learn fast. 👍🎶🎵🎼
The flute and the piccolo parts are definitely very tricky ! 😱👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Quite extraordinary! A benchmark for anyone trying this kind of presentation. No wonder there was a gap of a few weeks!
Walter Brewster thank you so much Walter !
The best thing I have heard and seen today, and likely, the best video you have ever made as well. Much respect.
Thank you very much ! I’m trying to get better, step by step 😊😅
VAYA que bueno ...es fantastico la verdad es lo mejor que he visto una maravilla de música y montaje.
Thank you Manuel 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😊🔥
Beautiful and amazing playing from you and your colleagues! I love it so much
Thank you so much 😊😊😊🙏✨
This is incredible! Bravo to all the musicians. Love the outfits as well
Thank you for your kind words 🙏😊✨
Fantastic!!!!
You are such a talented person! And an inspiration of mine. Watching you so joyfully playing clarinet, I started playing again after almost 12 years pause, during which I could not force myself to play the instrument. Kodos from mother Russia!
You comment really makes me happy ! And so glad you gained motivation to play again 🤩 all the best for the future !!!
Absolutely wonderful, just like all the previous videos. You are “le meilleur” as both a clarinettist and as a musician and artist dedicated to bringing the sheer joy of music to a global audience. Je vous tire mon chapeau. Paul Globus, Montreal, Canada.
You’re too kind, thank you very much Paul ! I just try to do my best and make people enjoy nice music with a smile :-)))
Nicolas Baldeyrou You also inspire clarinettists everywhere to higher and higher levels of attainment. Your mastery of the instrument is astounding. I hope to hear you play In person one day.
Dear Nicolas...I'm not sure if you are still following the comments to your brilliant William Tell creation this late into 2023 but it seems to me that the possibilities of doing these classical music videos that carry some type of plot would be endless. One composition that comes to mind is "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"...WOW! Could you imagine how much fun you and your creative mind would have with the added video imagery of buckets and buckets of overflowing water being strewn everywhere! Hope you give it some thought!
Bravo Maestro!! Très jolie!! =)
Merci beaucoup Luis !!!
Wonderful!!! Very nice!!! Congratulations.
Thank you Ronald !
Hello Cuz, I hope all's well. This is one of the most astonishingly brilliant music videos I've seen. The playing is astonishing, the video editing is so brilliant, I can't imagine how long it took to 1) Arrange the music, 2) learn the individual parts, 3) practise all the individual parts 4) record and edit the whole thing!!
5) Try to spot the deliberate mistake!
Enjoy....!
Much love always, L & K 😊❤️ xx
Mir gefällt das Video richtig gut 😊
Eccezionale!!!!!❤
Outstanding!!!!!
Thank you Bill !
Franchement c'est le kiffe. Régulièrement je fais le tour de vos vidéos. Vivement les prochaines. Quel plaisir!!!
I have been listening to this on repeat since it came out!! Bravo, Nicolas and colleagues!! Love from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks you so much, appreciated ! 🙏🙏✨😊
Excellent !
Merci beaucoup Jean-Claude !
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 Le plaisir est pour moi ! Et vous me motivez à me mettre à l'écran vert... :-) J'ai ce qu'il faut pour cela depuis des années, mais je procrastine...
Amazing!!!!!!!
Fantastico ! Grande Nicolas..e tutti i tuoi complici
Grazie mille !
Brilliant, funny, amazing playing and genius editing.
Thank you so much Steve !
Wonderful performance ! Thank you and all your team for bringing us humor and laugh at the second corona closure. Music should be played with love, joy and fun just as you do it.
You are the best !!!
My thoughts about the importance of music are the same, thank you so much !
