This is one of many things that will help me be a smoother and more efficient on the bike. I’m trying to prepare myself for years hoping one day I could get back on the bike. And when I did, maybe I can accomplish my simple dreams of just being on the podium or even getting a trophy because I’ve never in my life barely ever got top 10 and I didn’t know anything about riding really. As time went on, I realize that and now it’s just something I want to prove to myself that I can do it. It would just mean the world to me because the sport was ripped out from underneath me before I never got a chance to ever be good.
Hey Tyler, I been practicing this technique and I can tell you that is almost done… I have everything.. body position and so on.. now I need more gas to complete that… but so far, so good.
So happy you guys are uploading more you guys have brought me from the worst rider out of my group of friends to one of the most clean and fast riders out of us 🤙🏽
I was looking forward to seeing this video after seeing you guys on live stream please dont forget to make the rear wheel steering vid you guys are the best on youtube
Hey guys, really thanks for this video, you guys are making really quality content ! Scrubs (and whips) are something i can't really figure out :( I have no problem jumping straight even big jumps (100 feet + ) or seatbouncing , but when it comes to scrub even small jump i'm lost. My biggest problem i belive is, that i'm not leaning enougt on the face of the jump. I was trying to do so, but i allways end up being almost straight on the face and then even when i trying to turn the bars down, i end up jumping straigth with bars turned do the side like an idiot :D But couple times i did a little scrub, just trew the back wheel to the side a little and went little lower and faster, but was no near annything you did on the video. That "scrub line" explanation helps me understand it a little better so next time i will try that. I feel really comfortable on my bike, maybe it's just mental thing, i don't know. Could you give me some advice how to work on this, or what to try to improve my "jumping with turned bars " ? :D Thank you guys ! Ps. make more how to videos, those are the best on youtube
Andrej Halek I have the same problem you do. I can jump stuff no problem and I’ve raced my entire life and would consider myself to be an Expert level rider but I’ve never learned to whip or scrub. I’m sure I have the bike control and skill to do it but can’t figure it out. I also don’t feel like cranking the bike sideways to try and learn something new and then hurting myself.
The suspension is not “adding speed” when scrubbing. The only thing scrubs do is make you jump lower. This results in two ideals: 1. The rider can come in with more speed without overshooting. 2. The rider can land quicker minimizing airtime, putting the tires on the ground quicker.
I'm fascinated by this move, based on my enjoyment of it on a snowboard. Watch the leg motions in here, it's not all the motorcycle suspension. (legs most extended/flexed through the maneuver)
2:30 ''suspension deflects outward'' ... instead of launching the bike and you 'upward'. Great explanation. The scrub apparently came out of BMX, and had been used for many years in RC Racing.
Wow. Good explanation of the scrub! Best I've seen. Its hard to put into words because it's so natural on the bike but you did a perfect job on this vid. Wtg!!
All credit goes to James Stewart, he gave us victory in staying low to the ground to be faster. Thanks James, you are an inspiration to all who ride dirt bikes
These are great videos, all of them. But how do you begin to practice it? There has to be a way to start with a baby step, then build on that. Otherwise, you try the form and hope you correct in the air? Any advice would be great
Practice over round mounds of dirt. For instance, don't jump a double, roll over the face then scrub just the landing part. If you practice scrubbing without actually jumping, you'll start to get the technique down better. Basically it's challenging yourself to see how fast you can hit things without actually jumping them. Hope that makes sense :)
Great video! Watched it last night, at the track today. It was a lot of fun to practice your techniques, still look like DEVLIN when I'm on a jump:)) but at least now I have direction on what to practice. Thanks again!!
Damn I wish I could of gotten into this sport when I was younger ! Just trying to jump feels so panicky to me ! I always get scared i'll land on the front wheel and dive head first ! Love the sport though ! :)
The second thing to consider is that flying does not apply for propulsion. Getting on the ground sooner means your power can go down sooner as well. As for the gain Tyler saw in the latter half of the video, that's due to the different trajectory more than anything else. More of Tyler's energy was directed forward than up.
hate to break it to ya in 90% of cases your right... but when it comes to rhythm sections.. sometimes more area covered at once in the air is quicker... momentum is the key term. if i quad quad and you double double double double. ground time means nothing.
hi, wha´ts up dude? you advice me to try scrubing , as far a i start now doing motocross? the other thing you always say start slow on smal jumps. but my doubt is if i go slow the bike will do the scrub? ahhhh i love your videos, thanks for all the tips!!!
I have a question. I'm a middle of the pack C rider, but I've never been comfortable jumping while still in a turn. Its seems like the bike always falls to the inside of the turn. What advice do you have on keeping the bike straight? Or could you make a video explaining it?
I would have liked to have seen the shoot-out at the end with the non-scrubber on the outside line where it is easier to maintain speed and momentum. The scrub would still be better, but the result would be closer. Scrubbing is a milli-second technique that pays off over the course of a moto.
I’ve always wanted to scrub/whip but I’m scared that the bike won’t straighten out. Will it just do it naturally or do you have to force it a bit back?
Very detailed video, I feel that if you demonstrated smaller scrubs in the video as well as the banger that you were throwing the whole time it would give a little better of an explanation for the people who “have been jumping straight” the whole time. Anyways great video definitely got a like from me
If you watch the slow mo version of the scrub. You see that right as they leave the face of the jump their body position is a lot like what you'd use to go through whoops. I feel a lot of how to vids don't explain this part. The bike actually goes forward out in front of the rider. At the same time your upper body leans forward to compensate. This allows room in the cockpit to move the bike. And it counters the loss of rear end rebound. Often if you're in the wrong position the bike come off nose high. The back of the bike is not compressing as much. But my point has more to do with that split second as the bike is catching air and leaving the face. Watch closely. The body position changes drastically. From neutral to an almost whoop like body position. And every video I see, instructional or not, you see this. But no one explains it.
+Jacob Schepp Sweet! Thanks for the feedback Jacob! We had fun on the live chat and appreciate you watching 👍🏻 Let us know what you think of the scrub video
You hit the jump face, the suspension compressed, then rebounded fully, then the roll and the bike caught air. Woiuld it not help to dial in more rebound compression? I want to see Devlin do the scrub, you do it normal, see who wins, thx.
I just found a gold mine of knowledge and how tos on youtube. Really in depth and concise videos

I come from the little brother, MTB. I'm so impressed how you can manoeuvre such best with such ease
Hey Tyler, I been practicing this technique and I can tell you that is almost done… I have everything.. body position and so on.. now I need more gas to complete that… but so far, so good.
Nice, and I’m here turning the bars😂
Dude this guy obviously knows what he's doing! No other video online shows it like this!:) I'ma go learn this summer.
The MX Factory have the best and most entertaining how to ride videos ever dude!
We agree!! Oh, I mean.... Thank you! :)
By far, the best technical description (the physics) of doing a scrub.
So happy you guys are uploading more you guys have brought me from the worst rider out of my group of friends to one of the most clean and fast riders out of us 🤙🏽
That's amazing, thanks so much for sharing that! It keeps us pumped to bring you all awesome content!
3:28 , this is by far the best explanation of this
maneuver I've ever heard.
every good rider is not good teacher. You are good at both. Thank you for your videos 👊🏼
The demonstration at the end really drove the point home. Nice video.
Thank you. I’ve never thought of it that way. Your a great teacher
Hey can y'all do a video on how to save it. Like a bad swap? Or other scetchy situations?
+Beau Vandyke That's a great idea, thanks for the feedback! We'll def make a video about that.
Yes - this would be hugely helpful! Keep up the great videos!
yes and also how to fall/bail out the safest way lol
@@dripsystem5785 when and doubt throttle er out
Beau Vandyke just always squeeze the bike with ur knees and give it gas
I was looking forward to seeing this video after seeing you guys on live stream please dont forget to make the rear wheel steering vid you guys are the best on youtube
+Anthony M We won't forget, promise! Thanks for checking out our live chat and watching our stuff!
Im going to buy a bike tomorrow and hit the tracks. I cant wait to try it.
A how to whip: standing technique would be greatly appreciated. You guys rock!
Never been to ER, well I guess it's first time for everything.

I don't even like to wheelie 😢
I think this is the best How To on scrubbing on UA-cam ..... awesome video! The comparative was sweet too at the end
We appreciate the positive feedback! And I'm glad you liked the comparison, that was cool to see for us too.
I’m old school straight line jumper 51 yr old. But I want to learn this scrub stuff. Actually looks fun.
Our suggestion, make sure your straight line jumping is good 20 out of 20 times then start very slow with the scrubbing. P.S. It’s a blast!
Will do thanks
Keep you posted by end of summer 2019 to see how I did🤷🏻♂️

Awesome! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Really good video, so much stuff in there I didn't even think of!
Explained it clearly an understood. makes it easier.thank you
Tryed it, worked awesome untill step 2, bike never got back, landed sideaways hahaha
go faster!!! awesome!!!
Bubba Stewart was a G
Bikes Night I wish he was still racing
JS7 invented the scrub.....and no one SCRUB like BUBBA does.
James Stewart, the fastest rider ever.
We miss you Bubba!!!
another great video guys !! keep it up

how soon they forget
That is a very good breakdown of how a scrub works. The whole suspension going sideways thing makes a lot of sense.
+nik Dommen Awesome, always happy to hear our videos make sense 👍🏻😀
man I quit riding years ago be for UA-cam because I crashed to much wish I had this to see some basics fun to watch
Awesome videos guys thank you
I love Del Valley!
Great vids Brother!
Love your B-Roll stuff.
Great video. What tires does Devlin have on his bike?

Nice vids showed me a lot of things
Solid. That was great.
Excellent video.
Also helps there’s a slight curve leading up to the face, helps you already have that lean.
you should also mention you are able to hit the jumps faster without overshooting as a result of the upward momentum/gravitational pull being reduced
Great explanation
Your videos are the bomb diggity... Thanks
Insta L&S. Thanks for this gold!!
Good video! I learn it
Too many strokes!!!!
🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
4:34 how I looked when I tried scrubbing 2 weeks ago. No cracked ribs or broken bones but it still hurts to sneeze.
Great video! Watched it last night, at the track today. It was a lot of fun to practice your techniques, still look like DEVLIN when I'm on a jump:)) but at least now I have direction on what to practice. Thanks again!!

So I take it whipping is easier than scrubbing to start with?
Great vid and thank you.
Damn I wish I could of gotten into this sport when I was younger ! Just trying to jump feels so panicky to me ! I always get scared i'll land on the front wheel and dive head first ! Love the sport though ! :)
doobyboy21 all about control honestly
Thx bro for the tips love ur videos keep it up
Respect from Mather Russia
Do you completely let of the throttle on the jump or do you give it less throttle
Превосходное объяснение! Молодцы! (rus)
Спасибо!

It devastates that someone with a man-bun is waaaaaaay faster than me. It has me questioning my whole life.
Lmao
🤣
You know mate
Lol
Yeah but that takes up a lot more time having to scrub that man bun
Cool vid man
Thank you, now I can scrub my mountain bike
I have a question. I'm a middle of the pack C rider, but I've never been comfortable jumping while still in a turn. Its seems like the bike always falls to the inside of the turn. What advice do you have on keeping the bike straight? Or could you make a video explaining it?
I have the same issue. I seemed to fix it by keeping my knees tight to the bike & aligned with the foot pegs
Control the bike with legs
Watched the live stream and knew it was coming
+Collin Schroder Awesome! Thanks Collin!
Skills :D
If you can’t scrub , don’t try it. Scrubs and whips come with getting faster. Overtime it will just come to you.

Lol ... I always thought y’all did that just to look cool 😮
Do you keep steady throttle going off the face of the jump or let off of it at the bottom of the face when scrubbing?
nice vid guys
if you make a future scrub tutorial bring in Stewart for a presentation. that would be historical haha.
Hello from Brazil
I’ve always wanted to scrub/whip but I’m scared that the bike won’t straighten out. Will it just do it naturally or do you have to force it a bit back?

Anyways great video definitely got a like from me
do you release the throttle at the bottom of the jump? in that case do you clutch in to avoid engine break on a four stroke and pivoting forward?
if engine braking is noticeable turn up your idle
So you don't turn your bars back over till your back on the ground?
lol 4:46 best king of the hill episode s1 e10 "keeping up with our jonses"

Love the videos... Have you got one that starts with baby steps 😂
‘How to ride a dirt bike’ is the closest video we have to that 👍🏼
I watched the live stream earlier and knew that this video was going up tonight
+Jacob Schepp Sweet! Thanks for the feedback Jacob! We had fun on the live chat and appreciate you watching 👍🏻 Let us know what you think of the scrub video
The Mx Factory The video was awesome I am looking forward to try to learn how to scrub because your videos are so helpful
Best background music
can u do a railing berms how to plz
Nice video
When landing are you throttling to help get the bike straight?
It definitely helps stabilize and plant the bike upon landing.
No matter how hard I scrubbed, I never could get a man-bun to start growing.
Manbuns do not belong in motocross. Hopefully it comes unbunned, stuck in the chain and scalps him. Not to death, just as a lesson.
What about the in the air throttle blip before the landing... is that to go straighten the bike again ?
you always land wide open or risk swapping out
@@Dustin34 OK, thx for that info
Nice trick i like that..

Faster or not its still a sick looking way to get over a jump...definately faster...
It’s faster 👍🏼
