Ah! Finally a video on creating custom list. Nice one Patrick, i was looking for this video for a long time, but eventually learned by reverse engineering from a free templet I got of the internet.
One important thing. I noticed that when you create the macro to be a title/generator and you use this kind of great technique, by importing it into the timeline changes are shown when the cache is refreshed which doesn't occur when you apply the change. Just you need to force the cache refresh.

Using Custom Controll is super cool
You can make Buttons that link to web Pages by using the execute Field by entering:
os.execute('open \"\" \"YOUR URL"') os.execute('start \"\" \"YOUR URL"')
and this is how to get a Button that links to a Website in a Macro

Seems like Fusion could use some kind of 'Database' Node. Somewhere you could put all your possible background sources and not have to have so many Dissolve nodes.
(If I understand how this works.)
For those non programmers out the iif is a ternary expression. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%3F:
IIF stands for Inline If Statement. Which has 3 parts. The first is a true/false condition. The second is what happens when true, and the third part is what happens when it is false.
Lists in programming are 0 indexed. So they start at 0 and count up after. So if you had 5 items. The last item is number 4 not 5.
Hi Patrick, excellent tutorial! I was just wondering: the same setup could in fact be created with the good old Merge node and the toggle expression on its Blend parameter... so why would you prefer Dissolve over Merge? (or did I miss that in your video? ;)
Do you know any good tutorials on using Versions in Macros? Like you did with your Proto macro? or could you do a tutorial on it? Please :)
Great tutorial. The big annoyance is having to work in such a little window unless I’m missing something. It would so useful to be able to expand the expression line for more complex and longer scripts.

So hypothetically, rather than colored bg nodes, you could have any type of media-ins or generators feeding into these dissolves?
yup, or you could use this completely separate form dissolves. you could have a mediain going through three different effects like transform, warp, etc, and have expressions pointing to a drop down to day only have the blend for those effects enabled if a certain option is selected. tons of flexibility

This video was fantastic! Thank you so much for the tutorial. I was wondering if it would be possible to use something like this but instead of coloured backgrounds the options could show different images or video clips on screen possibly? I need to find a way to add a different image or possibly video (animated character) at certain points in a video and if I could have this overlayed on top of my main video and keyframe the changes to that the image or video that I want to show at a certain time comes onto the screen then that would probably save me tons of time instead of having to drag the separate clips on all the while. Would be great if there's some way to change the options whilst a video is playing so that you can change between them while it plays and records the changes? On that note I was wondering if you can attach key commands to a certain control maybe? Many thanks. Mark.
Actually I've managed to follow the tutorial and instead of using background colours I used images and they all change fine when I choose from the different options (for some reason I had to add a fourth option in order for them to show up in a drop-down menu otherwise they just show horizontally in the panel?) however I now have 1 question and 1 problem unfortunately 😞The question is how do I now use that control back on the main timeline and not from within the Fusion clip and then secondly I tried keyframing the control and say I put frame 0 as red then frame 10 as green and frame 20 as blue then it shows as red at the very beginning but then it changes to green at frame 2 and not 10 and then at frame 20 changes to blue like it should do. If I add more keyframes now so let's say I have (0=red, 10=green, 20=blue, 30=red, 40=green) then every time it hits a keyframe it does change to the correct colour but then exactly 1 frame later on all of the keyframes it changes to green and I can't for the life of me see why?
Dude! This was EXACTLY what I was looking for! Excellent tutorial! The only issue I'm having is that I created it with only binary options and I don't get a pull down. My options are just shown beside one another. Any way to change that? Thanks again!
I found that today however as soon as I added a fourth option they showed as a drop-down. Not sure if that's what it's meant to do with only three or not but the way I managed to get a dropdown for me anyway.

Oh the one I showed off? That was a custom effect I made for the nerdsync channel. I haven't made that widely available.
