I must be getting old, Asconas, Mantas and Quattros are only yesterday to me, as for the Beetles and Kadett GTEs, well that's just the day before yesterday! Happy days and memories, thanks for sharing.👍
Being an "American" I have always had an attraction to the European and Scandinavian cars. I have owned cars from every country with the exception of England and Russia. Love this series of German cars Great stuff !! >>> Happy New Year
@@christopherbrown6697 Correct. Still probably forgot about Polish, Romanian, or Russian cars. Interestingly, Polish cars even beat American twice in motorsport. Once in long-distance speed record, and once we won with Jeeps in Press On Regardless rally in USA in 1973. Comments were that Jeeps would win, and Polskies would not finish the rally. Turned out all Polskies finished the rally, one on 6th place overall, and none of the Jeeps managed to get to the finish line xD.
It makes sense. Early 912s handled better than their contemporary 911s because the 4 cylinder meant less weight behind the rear axle. Beetles have a longer wheelbase than 911s as well.
All of the Type 1s are 1302 and 1303 (Super Beetles) so the strut front ends and CV IRS rear ends are more late 1960s tech versus the old torsion beam/swingaxle Type 1s developed in the late 1930s.
My daily driver is a 1990 Volvo 240DL estate that Ma bought new. Arthur is not, never had been, nor ever will be. He is an old car that is happiest when working hard. The old boy has regularly taken dirt and gravel roads for fun. With the stock, and mostly original, underpinnings. Upgraded shocks, struts, and tyres are the only upgrade. Pamper the old boy and he sulks. Drive him like you stole him, or are in a Rally, and he is happy as Larry.
The Kadett C is made in Bochum, Germany, according to the information I found about this car. And the Kadett E (not Astra) is made in different countries, including Germany, Belgium, Portugal, UK & Spain.
Kadett was always German. GM just rebadged Opels to Vauxhall when they shut down British engineering centres and limited British division to interior finish design department. British Vauxhall Chevette isn't exactly British either. It's a modified Chevrolet Chevette/Pontiac 1000. Speaking of production alone, lots of Astras have been made in Poland as well. Does that make them Polish?
Over 8 minutes in and not a Volvo or Saab in sight. I know the 240 series did quite well, so considering that this is SwedishRally, the dearth of Swedish cars is doubly sad.
This is a video about German cars. :) Here's one with Swedish cars - ua-cam.com/video/U4Nv4iYb250/v-deo.html Or, best of Volvo here - ua-cam.com/video/MmOkUBwYdxg/v-deo.html
nice show of popular German cars 😊 the beetles are powerful, but the original motors sounds different.. I like the very fast driven Asconas A and B! and to see an old Kadett Coupe is a nice reminder 😀

EXCELLENT. Proper old school rallying. I love it
Schön diese Autos zu sehen. Leider sind die meisten selten geworden
Love it! I drove most of the Opels you see here. And the Beetles!

China? Brazil? Mexico???? nah.
Poland, Romania, India?
The commenter said European cars, so that would rule out China, Brazil, Mexico, and India.

fantastico video di compilazione!
Ce sont vraiment de superbes ( reliques). Merci. Gérard de nice.
Great variety of cars! No Manta A in these rally's?
Good to see volo n saab still raging about on back roads
So many Opels.

Sounds like powered by hornets 🤩
Die guten alten Heckschleudern mit Heckmotor, die einen reifen Fahrer und eine kundige Hand erfordern.

The type 1 VW's seem to handle very well. The Porsche always flip around backwards.
It is pretty good, especially considering it was designed in the prime time of Hitler.

Best part of this? Not an escort in sight.
It's nice to see "real" cars, the top-heavy hatchbacks that handle horribly on struts. Such a pleasure to see the suspension working
So Opel is the ONLY OLD GERMAN RELIC WITH A DIFFERENT EXHAUST SOUND?
The 911s and the Audi I-5s sounded a bit different, but yes, remarkably similar across the board.
What?!? No VW Type 2s?? 😢
Please be gentle. They are not relics, but classic cars. And far to good ones, as we see here.

Swedish car rally, but where were the Volvos and Saabs ?
Not in a video about German cars 😉 You will have to watch the Old Swedish Relic-videos instead. :)
