When I think of camping in a trailer, it makes me think of the peace and quiet of most campgrounds, so I'd name it "Tranquillity". Good luck with the build and I'll be watching and learning as you go. Thanks
It'll be a while, but I do hope to get back to it! Right after the second when I was getting serious about it we had to move, then I had to build out my shop, then catch up on the commissions while I got the shop ready... now it's a pool/pool house build. Maybe after that I can get back to it
Exactly! That's my hesitation.. besides adding a fair bit of expense, I know removing the skins will be at least a solid two weeks of work to do and reinstall.. which is a good month in creator time.
Oh my what did your wife say all that stuff all over the lawn lol!! Nice airstream I think they’re the best far as trailers!! Can’t wait to see how it looks!! Have fun
I just watched this Avion video and am looking forward to your progress with it. I am the proud owner of a 1973 26' Avion LaGrande mostly original condition with almost identical layout to your model. My wife and I have been living in the Avion since July 2019 while our new house is being built so we are definitely aware of the benefits and shortcomings of this trailer. I have added a Girard tankless water heater which I highly recommend for unlimited hot showers! I dont know if I would go as far as removing the inside skins but water leaks are definitely an issue with my trailer too.
Oohhhhh, I think that might be one of my favorites! That's super interesting! Good tip on the Girard, I'll remember that. In your mind what are the strengths and downsides of them?
@@YouCanMakeThisToo I think the biggest weakness is the water leaks. The drip gutter over the entry door leaks behind the rivets and the front window tends to leak either at the gaskets or the screws and causes the interior floor to rot. But there are so many strengths, we to towed our Avion from Virginia to Colorado, South Dakota etc when it was 25 years old with no problems. Still using the original refrigerator, stove, etc.
stove etc. I would definitely keep or replace the gray and black water holding tanks because you never know when you'll need them! Also be sure to look into anti-sway bar systems for the hitch -looks like there was a system on your trailer at some point. I replaced the original front couch/dinette with a 2 couch system and drop down table and would be happy to send you photos if you are interested.
@@caryteates4246 Thanks awesome! Thanks for the insight. I'll be removing the interior skins so I'll take care to do extra waterproofing in those spots.
If you decide to remove the inside walls, or “skin”, as I did to a camper I owned, use some “reflectix” type insulation. I used carpet tape to hold it to the skin between the studs, from floor to ceiling, and back down the other side. You could tell a huge difference from the front to the the back, where I put the bedroom. Just a thought!
I'd name it after a bird (avion tie-in) so maybe Condor because it is pretty big. Also WOW that green color in the bathroom, it's like the 70s threw up in there!
Will you be continuing this project soon? I'm looking at doing the same thing to my '75 Avion LaGrande. Your videos are by far the highest quality and most informative I've found and I'd love to see the continuation of the project
Look at getting a RV toilet so it will not fill the black tank as much less water usage. Definitely should have black and grey tanks. Not all campgrounds are full hookup. Not sure if you remember from the skiatook event you used my camper to take a shower but it's nice not to have to be tied to a full hookup campgrounds.
Oh I remember, that shower was glorious! That’s a good point. Now I think about it the campgrounds we normally tent at just have power and water, not sewage too.
@@YouCanMakeThisToo or you can condense it like we do our Pets names. For example just call her ‘RB’ which really stands for Redbud, in your case, or you could say it stands for ‘ReBuilt’ or ‘Recreation Box’, ‘ReBound’ - but always you’d know what ‘RB’ really stands for ‘Redbud’.

etrailer.com has trailer tires, you can also check any local tire center you have - just make sure they know what kind of vehicle it is. As far as blows... I'm a huge proponent of carrying a spare. Well it may depend on the manufacturer if they named it that way as the word may mean something different in another language BUT the word "avion" is Spanish for plane in English. Not sure if I'm making sense now lol 😐.
I'd call it "Home Two". For the obvious reason that it could be a second living space, but more because it reminded me of 'Home One' - Admiral Ackbar's Mon Calamari command ship from Star Wars. If you aren't a SW fan, I suppose the name is pretty dumb...
Glad you explained, I enjoy Star Wars but I'm not a big fan... didn't get the reference. Pretty clever though, but I definitely prefer your Patreon recommendation. I immediately told my wife about that one.
