  • With the new Humminbird APEX coming out as the new elite model over the Humminbird SOLIX, I wanted to compare the 2 and see if the APEX is worth buying over the SOLIX. The Humminbird APEX bring a new size to the Humminbird lineup at 19 inches. THAT'S HUGE! At the end of the video I give you my opinion about the APEX and tell you if it is good for bass fishing or crappie fishing. If you are interested in Lowrance or Garmin you may want to check out Humminbird before you decide. Thank you for watching my video! Please SUBSCRIBE if you haven't already.

    A little about me:
    I am James McBurnett. I live in the great state of Texas. Probably not where you would think, but I am located in the panhandle region. I moved here from Alabama and work as a Chemical Engineer in the area. After being here for a few years, I decided to get back to my roots as a fisherman. It is quite challenging in my area to find a body of water to fish. The closest lake to me is about 40 miles away.
    After a couple more years, I realized how much I love fishing and wanted to share it with the world. Clearwater fishing was born. I wanted to teach people all about fishing. This includes rods, reels, fishing line, bait, lures, largemouth bass, crappie, walleye, catfish, bluegill, boats, boat trailers, outboards, and anything else related to fishing.
    I also wanted to share my fishing experiences as well. To be entertaining, knowledgeable, comical, and FUN. This channel was created out of the love of the sport of fishing, and I plan to keep making content that represents that. Thank you for watching this video and reading a bit about me. Give me a shout out in the comments below and let me know you read this. Now get out there and go catch you some fish.

    I own 2 Apex 13's. One at the helm one up front linked to my Ulterra. I also use a Garmin 1243xsv for my live scope. Buy what you can afford. Are they pricer? Sure. But in the end the better quality screens and higher resolutions means that things are much clearer to see and easier to read...

    The primary target for the Apex is the Salt Water fishermen. Back in the Humminbird Onix and Ion days (Humminbird's first touch screen offerings), the Onix was the freshwater unit and the Ion was a flush mount unit for the Salt Water fishermen. Humminbird never had a replacement for the Ion until now. The salt water guys really want more of a flush mount unit than the Solix or Helix provides and Humminbird was loosing lots of market share in the salt water business to Raymarine, Simrad, and others.
    The second transducer port is not the same as the first one. It is primarily intended for the Airmar deep water transducer... Again, for the salt water fishermen. You can't just plug something like a Mega 360 transducer into it.
    With that said, I have an Apex 19 on order for use at the helm in my fresh water inland lake trolling for Stripers. With my fish finders, I'm not really looking for structure or bottom features... I'm purely looking for schools of bait fish, schools of Stripers, and scattered Stripers. I think the added resolution will be beneficial in picking up "things" in the water column, which is all I really care about.
    In my case, I currently have a Solix 15 SI+ G2 (which will be traded in on the Apex 19) and a Solix 12 SI+ G2 which is dedicated to my Mega 360. I am also strongly considering the "leaked" Humminbird Mega Live which will connect via Ethernet. With my setup, I will be able to add the Mega Live and connect it to the Apex without the need of adding the powered Humminbird Ethernet Switch... One Ethernet port for the Solix 12 and one ethernet port for the Mega Live.
    For those who are willing to spend the money, I think there are going to be a lot of fresh water fishermen taking a serious look at the Apex.

    • @clearwaterfishing
      @clearwaterfishing  3 роки тому +1

      I appreciate your comment! You took a great amount of time to write it up to help others. I really thought the freshwater guys would stick to the Solix series, but the way you explain it there is probably a larger market there than I thought. I definitely knew the main focus was for the saltwater market, which you explained very well.

      I'm really looking forward to having the Apex 19 and Solix 12 at the helm of my Striper trolling setup. The Solix 12 is dedicated to the Mega 360 but also plan on getting the Mega Live when it comes out.

    If you factor in the cost of the Ethernet box, and a second map card (if you go with Helix) and additional cables to run say a 2D thru hull transducer, along with the faster processor, a good case can be made to step up to the Apex. Then there is the screen resolution which is significantly higher. Prices are insane, however Bass guys think differently. Just my 2 cents. Great video by the way!

    Thanks for the comparison. I feel the hdmi plug could prove to be of much value for running a IPad remotely from the main screen. The base screen could be mounted mid boat , or anywhere, while a user could be anywhere on the boat monitoring the screen mobilely on an IPad. This to me would be very useful. Also, if one wanted to video the screen effectively they could do so using a recording device that had a hdmi in port. This could be very useful to someone depend on how they want to utilize their equipment. Too bad one can not yet do these functions wirelessly yet, using wifi or Bluetooth.

Next, add a 24’’ Garmin unit dedicated to livescope. That way the crappie look huge.
