I recently got Mega live thing I like about it is showing me things I never knew and proving me wrong on things I thought I knew. Especially bait and fish behavior
A guy that did a number of early Mega Live videos actually had two lines out trolling. He was using Landscape with Apex fish finder I think on down mode. He was watching both of his lines he was trolling. Noticed one fish would swim towards and turn away. Reeled in and the lure was tangled on the leader.
Randy should probably get with the times! He’s a great fisherman but purposefully not using the latest technology is going to hurt him. There may be times where he excels for an event by not having it, but it can save a lot of time and make you much more efficient. Personally, i don’t catch many fish directly off the forward stuff.
A tournament fisherman should definitely have it, I don’t fish tournaments anymore and I choose not to use, I’ve been on friends boats that have it and it’s super cool but I see them staring at the screen all day. I love the puzzle, putting the pieces together and the surprise when you feel that bite! Also being out in nature enjoying the sights and sounds, that’s what keeps me going and it’s hard to do that staring at a screen. Hopefully winter isn’t too long!
Yeah for me the forward stuff assists in finding piece and putting them together. I look at the screen to help me line up on structure find grass or other cover. For my local lakes, i really don’t watch the fish eat. I’ve done it, but definitely not to the degree people from other parts on the country do.
What degree is best for lure distance? I cant see 2 double jig rigged 1/8oz baby shads with bait pop slathered on them more than 40' away. Even trued with sensitivity maxed and contrast all the way down.
The 1/8oz makes it harder to see. Smaller sizes are harder to see. Lead is harder to see than tungsten as well. Lure distance depends on depth as well. You’ll have to play with it yourself to determine what’s best for your specific situation
Question Matt. How do you view the Mega Live recordings on your pc? I'd like to place some recordings in some of my UA-cam videos. Thanks for any help and great vid!
Can you explain all the components needed to have forward facing sonar? I have the all in one Hummingbird system now. Ulterra and Helix 10 on my console. I want to fish for crappie from my front of my boat.
@MattLunaFishing can I just mount it to the side of my boat and connect it to my Helix 10 Gen4 Mega DI, SI, and 2D sonar that is mounted on my console. It does have the ability to be used for this purpose.
Best FF sonar video I’ve seen!! Have you installed the new Live update yet (1.2 I think)? I haven’t installed it in my boat yet and feedback/ review would be fantastic. I finally have mine set up perfectly for me and don’t want anything to screw it up. Lol
We were fishing for salmon Tuesday and I tried the Mega Live and had problems seeing gear and fish. We were using 11" Pro-Trolls and Spinfish or Spinners. I tried adjusting and made little difference. I should be able to see my trolling gear especially a rotating flasher that does a 360 circle behind the boat maybe 35 feet back. I did see a few fish but was real faint more of an outline. Could see it swim and the action of the tail but real faint. I likely needed to adjust sensitivity and contrast more. I have my main Humminbird Helix G4N at the dash and a 10" Helix back of boat. I used the main unit for sonar and map, back unit for Mega Live. That seemed to work real well. Back unit networked using Ethernet connection for transducers and Mega Live. A lot of guides are now using live transducers for all brands and helps locate fish and see how they react to their lures. Any suggestions my settings. I also noted your setting suggestions. We were mainly in 30 to 50 feet sort of dirty water, range I had 45 to 50 feet, down range I adjusted so it was clearly on the bottom. My wife thinks the Mega Live is a waste of time. I'm also using the current update for Helix units and Mega Live.
The live sonar isn’t not a waste of time. It will help your fishing for sure. Make sure you’re up to date on updates. With all the newest updates the settings recommended have changed
@@MattLunaFishing Yes I have all the current updates to both Helix units and Mega Live. I barely got started with Mega Live and ended up needing hip surgery. I was in pain for over a year. Finally had the surgery and doing good. Had to wait on healing for a number of months. Now I'm trying to figure it out all over again. Our last trip I left Sensitivity and Contrast on the default of 10. I should of adjusted both of them. I had transducer and setting at 60. We were going to go out the next day and ended up going home. I like having my Helix 12 on dash with combo Sonar and GPS Map. Back unit Helix 10 I keep on Mega Live while trolling and if later anchor fishing.
@@MattLunaFishing A lot of Oregon guides are now using Mega Live trolling. Having a dedicated unit back of boat with Mega Live and a transducer rod on transom that folds over when traveling. Cameron Black, Nick Popov use Mega Live with a large Humminbird Apex unit. Nick actually has it down to watching salmon and if going after lure. A number of times he was telling which rod was going to get bit and if the salmon turns away or turn away and come back. One guide said they notice a group of salmon more likely have one grab. Where one salmon will look and leave a lot of times. I just have to get the right angle and setting to get the results they get. All I have gotten is work with settings all the time with water conditions and tide changes. I know if a fast current the fish will pin to the bottom or look for areas out of fast water.
I believe there is a way. I think it’s in the mega live settings. With mega live on the screen, hit the menu button twice, then scroll to mega live, and i think you can add the lines there.
Yeah maybe. It’s a lot more difficult to do than people realize and for where I live we don’t catch a lot of fish that you actually see on the unit so it wouldn’t be that entertaining.
I know lakes are full of fish, I'm not interested fish following my bait in which they do. I'm only interested in the fish that's bites and I know when that happens.
A real pro fisherman don’t want to know we’re bass are and we’re to throw your lure now angler just look down some don’t look wen throwing there lure that is not fishing setting just take a course lunrn it 100% and you will win tournaments even if you are not a pro young guys will defend f,f,sonars because they are not good bass fisherman
You can make those changes to see if it helps. I haven’t gotten that part totally dialed yet. The degree changes typically correlate to the clicks on the transducer

Hands down the best panoptics video I’ve seen
Wow that means a lot! Thank you for saying that!
Saved to my playlist for when I eventually get Livescope 👍
Awesome! It will be very helpful!
great information !🍻
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Best settings video ever, thanks
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Somewhere Randy is rolling his eyes and thinking about content for his next 10 videos!

I think he’s not using it so he has an excuse for his poor performance!
Lol. I have it and still have poor performances like a lot of other fisherman that have the technology. It doesn’t catch them for you!

I don’t think you can. I tried and it doesn’t work. I had to record this footage on my unit, then play it back, record with my camera.
@@MattLunaFishing Only the Apex has a HDMI Video Out port. There is a guy posting video and it is all recorded or copied off his Apex unit to a drive.

You need the specific transducer for the forward facing sonar. For Humminbird it’s called mega live.
@MattLunaFishing can I just mount it to the side of my boat and connect it to my Helix 10 Gen4 Mega DI, SI, and 2D sonar that is mounted on my console. It does have the ability to be used for this purpose.
@LawrenceCostello-f3i it connects to the trolling motor
The mega live transducer is $500 off right now at Bass Pro!
Only because a new one came out

Nicely Done ~ Thank You

Trolling isn’t going to be ideal for the mega live. It will make the sonar cone move around a lot. You may see better results by adding target lock

I can see it helping, but angles will be key for sure. Distance away from the boat will matter as well.
What angle do you set your transducer at?
6 clicks from the bottom when set at 60 degrees in the unit
I have that same unit. Is there not a way to put grid lines on the screen? I can't find a setting for it.

@@MattLunaFishing Thank you!
Would you still go at 60 degrees is you were fishing in 8 fow or less ?
No, i think with shallower water you want the angle to be lower, so less clicks
Hey mate how are you recording on your helix
You can record through the helix unit through the settings but to get the video on your creek you’ll need to set up a camera

I’ve come too the conclusion that my system shows me fish not too waist my time trying too catch!
Lol. That’s possible. People on UA-cam make it look a lot easier than it really is
Mega live is tricky to dial in. Everything looks the same until you really dial it In.
I’m getting it more and more dialed
@@MattLunaFishing it really shouldn’t be as tricky as it is. Live scope is pretty straight forward. Unfortunately I’m all in with birds and raptors
Getting my Livescope wasn’t easy in my opinion. I may have never had it completely dialed. The interference is my biggest issue with mega live
I spent 20K 3 fish so far.
20k for what?
