I've asked several different mechanics/parts people at dealers and they all said it's a lifetime filter and doesn't really need to be replaced. It looks like just a normal paper filter so it definitely would need to be replaced. I'm at 160k on my 01 GT and figured I would need to replace the fuel filter by now.
It’s crazy how handy your videos always are. I just needed to see the parts up close so I can buy the correct fittings and stuff. I’m miles away from my car but you make it so I see everything. Thanks again. All I need now is to guess how much fuel line I need coming from the tank. 😂
Thanks man ! I was about to work on that tomorrow, I received my brand new filter and tank last week, and I am now ready to install these components tomorrow, talk about help at the right time... yes ! I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, all your videos as taught me well , so thanks again buddy ! You deserve a free cookie 🍪 Cheers man !😉
This is very useful to understand the problem I had today. After managing to open the rusty hatch on the tank, i replaced the filter with new Crosland brand. The car wouldnt start after. put the old filter back and it worked. Looks like this cheap brand had faulty filter and the issue i now think was that relief valve/pressure regulator. It wasnt fitting in all the way in the new filter. So probably pump wasnt able to generate pressure as oil would be leaking out of that loose valve...
I just bought today a new fuel tank, but inside so rusty and ofc a hole so if i'm right need to be change completely. I thought but I'm sure now, thank you so much🫡
Great video! I was hoping to hear a little about what you called the "sending unit." My tachometer's fuel gauge spontaneously sends erroneous (and fluctuating) fuel levels. IOW if I have 3 gallons left in the tank, suddenly my low fuel light will come on, and my bars will drop to zero. A few miles later, 4 bars will pop onto the display and the low fuel light will go away. I just ordered a new unit but it was only a replacement for the filter and the "pre-filter sock." Since that has nothing to do with the sensor which I think is the likely culprit, I wanted to learn more about it.
I've been noticing A reduced throttle when the car is at a low temperature and slow take off. Could replacing fuel pump/filter help? 2000 celica so I'd imagine its a 22 year old pump.
Fuel pump and fuel filter problems "usually" show up with heavy acceleration. Highway speed full throttle acceleration to pass, or just power runs for fun 😁. A weak pump or clogged filter will not provide enough fuel for full power. A weak pump (low pressure) could/may cause throttle response problems. Kind of stumble or bogging on quick acceleration. But that wouldn't really change with engine temperature. You are right, 22 year old pump and filter 🤔 I am amazed at how long they last. Edit: If by reduced throttle you mean a low idle it could be idle air control.
Toyota considered it a lifetime part. Unless there is contaminated fuel 100k plus. I don't change them unless I suspect a problem or I am in the tank for a fuel pump change.
Yes it can be. The whole lower piece is replaced. Can be ordered from Amazon ebay and most local parts stores. The fuel pump intake sock is also replaceable if damaged.
I just cover the first fitting I disconnect with a rag... but I am a barbarin Lol. Disconnect the fuel pump wires (or pull fuel pump fuse /or relay) crank the car, that will use residual pressure in the lines.

Yeah, it could be a lifetime fuel filter. But I don't think they figured the lifetime was going to be over 20 years😁.
I just replaced my fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator and strainer on my 02 GTS after 395k miles.
The same said to me bro..it's obvious that they don't know so much about 7gen celica technology.

Good to hear that it helped 👍
@@TSRGarage any idea how much line I need to get from the tank to the engine bay?
@@kaeosfactory 🤔 a lot Lol .. not exactly... for my projects I usually go with best guess plus a couple feet.😁

good to see the video has already helped someone. I saw this question come up often. Thanks for taking time to comment.
Congratulation for your chanel, help many people aroung world, best wishes and best of luck to you.
Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to show and explain . was helpful.
Thank you
I would just buy the whole assembly unit. Thank you for your demo.

So to replace the filter you have to buy just that housing?
Yes that is the part you will get. It will be listed as a fuel filter

Thx for the video! So this is the only filter in the fuel system?
Yes
Is there a place to buy the filter? Since it's part of the housing assembly?
Yes dealer, Amozon, Ebay. I got one from Ebay for 12 $.
@@TSRGarage It is very cheap yeah :) From the local Toyota dealer is more expensive.
Is it worth the effort to change the filter? Was the car running better after? What mileage you had on it?
This wasn't actually a fuel filter change. This was done while working on my Celica street rail project. For information purposes.
How often should I replace this filter to avoid any issues? Every 30, 40, 60k miles?
Toyota considered it a lifetime part. Unless there is contaminated fuel 100k plus. I don't change them unless I suspect a problem or I am in the tank for a fuel pump change.
Jeeez. My 97 Boxster is easier to work on than this 00 gts I have. For the record you answered +1,000% more than any questions I had. Thanks.
so the fuel pump intake filter cant be changed?
Yes it can be. The whole lower piece is replaced. Can be ordered from Amazon ebay and most local parts stores. The fuel pump intake sock is also replaceable if damaged.
@@TSRGarage you are amazing, I hope you know that x
How do you depressurize the feul system
I just cover the first fitting I disconnect with a rag... but I am a barbarin Lol.
Disconnect the fuel pump wires (or pull fuel pump fuse /or relay) crank the car, that will use residual pressure in the lines.
How easy is this to do?
excellent video
thanks
Good Job ! Respect !
Thanks a lot!
Thank you very good 👍
Thank you
How much miles on the GT?, I HAVE 250K
Wasn't an actual fuel filter replacement. Just tearing it down for parts of the fuel gauge/pump for my Street rail project.
Double filtered. Pre filter and normal filter.
👍
You. Da. Man.
Pain in the ass.
Yes ... a bit of a pain
Errrr I give it a miss
