Pedro Augusto fight was just a tune up fight for Floyd. He got hit when he bobbed the wrong way and it blinded him. He had to knock him out quick then and he did stop him soon after, but that punch broke a bone between Floyd's eye and nose. When he fought Ali, Floyd was ahead on points. He got hit on his eye by Ali very lightly and Floyd blew his nose between that round and the next round not thinking and his eye got get swollen and closed instantly. You can see it happening if you look very closely. The fight was stopped because of it.
Probably right, but even at cruiser he'd be giving up a lot of weight as they rehydrate after the weigh in and come in at over 210 lbs. Still, Patterson with his quickness would be a tough fight for any cruiserweight.
I think the cruiserweight would have been a great division in the 1960s, because, besides Patterson, there also would have been fighters like Jerry Quarry and Doug Jones, who were both excellent but small heavyweights.

Shortly after Patterson's death, I was listening to a world title fight on the radio (I can't even remember who was fighting). Before the fight the ring announcer called for 10 seconds' silence in memory of Patterson, while the ring bell was rung 10 times. Of course some drunken motormouths in the audience couldn't keep quiet, and continued to mouth off during the 10 seconds. It was most disrespectful to a great champion and I was disgusted.
Addie had suddenly died sometime-i believe-after the 3/08/71 Frazier-Ali Fight o' th'Century and the Garden brass were using different guys t'fill in during that aftermath
Bonavena got robbed in his fight with Frazier, had him floored twice in the second round and it went 10 rounds. Frazier pressed the action as usual, but Bonavena scored more overall, shitty NYC judging.
Bonavena reminds me of Roldan the middleweight who fought a peak Hagler ….Roldan had a lot of success early of against Marvin because he was so ungainly, strong and rough …..
Patterson is truly a great champion. He KO's Henry Cooper putting him down twice an easily beating Bonavena. I wonder how he would have fare against Frazier.
I would have liked to see Floyd get a shot at Frazier after this win in '72. Frazier fought Stander and Daniels in '72, both who were barely top 20. Frazier was severely diminished after his win over Ali and although he probably would have KO'd Floyd, it would have been more interesting than either Daniels or Stander.
Frazier would have murdered every fighter all of you have mentioned maybe with the exception of Rocky Marciano. That's funny you think Patterson would last a round against Frazier as soon Frazier lands that left ,which will hit him much harder than Liston ever did, he'll be demolished . Why would Rocky Marciano an undefeated champion with 49 wins 43 knock outs retire because of weak young Floyd Patterson who had only 4 years of experience wasn't even known properly lol. I assume Floyd wanted another shot at the championship but does anyone think he would have handled Frazier? A year later it would have been Foreman. He fought Liston twice so he was not afraid to tackle the best.
Didn't see this as a Patterson win. Certainly not a unanimous one. It smacked of a hometown/sentimental decision for Floyd. I think you could argue that Oscar sneaked it through his more consistent aggressive intent, while Floyd spent a lot of time simply bouncing up and down out of range. However an overall fairer decision would have been a draw
I know this was not Floyd's last fight but it was his last big win. I am sure that at his advanced age and diminutive stature, it was dicey that he would handle this bull
This film (Colorized) is too dark to tell but Most of Oscar's punches are missing or landing on Floyds gloves. You might want to look for the original B&W WPIX Broadcast. I saw the original here on the tube and had a ringside seat for the live fight.

This might be Patterson’s greatest win when you consider his age and how many times he’d been knocked down in his career.
For some reason Joe Frazier WOULD NOT fight Floyd Patterson. Patterson should have gotten a Title shot vs Joe.
Good morning l love both Floyd and Joe but let me tell you this here and now. Patterson stood two chances against Frazier slim and none.
Floyd beat Oscar. That was a golden victory for a comeback fighter. The native New Yorker lasted a long time. Floyd did just fine in spite of losses. He is missed.
Floyd winning fights at 184 pounds against legit HW Oscar
I never rooted against Floyd Patterson.
patterson was gifted fighter lot of skill but a glass jaw
@@jimvolk9911 If Patterson had a stronger jaw he would have been a great fighter.
@@garymorell3362 He was a great fighter. He didn't have a weak jaw either. He was just fighting much bigger men. He was knocked down 17 times in his title fights and he got back up all 17 times. He was never counted out off his feet. People with a glass jaw or an weak heart would stay down when they are hurt. Floyd was a natural middleweight fighting top heavyweights. He used to walk around under 175 even in his championship years. He was around 168 in 1980's. That was his natural weight. He fought as a heavyweight because the heavyweight is the top of boxing world and he wanted nothing less. He could have fought in middleweight and Lt heavyweight, but he wasn't interested.

Johnny Carson spoke of Ali saying George Foreman telegraphed his punches and said that Frazier got the message.
didn,t see Floyd doing enough to win this fight, clearly a Ringo win
Bonavena was not the shadow of that fight with Fraizer, Ali, Chuvalo was very much aware of his lack of training for this fight and Patterson won very well
Fight machine just so happen to be fighting in the Golden Heavyweight era very underrated.. in his heyday he fight everybody dude literally fought 7 fights in 1970 alone went 20 rounds strait with The Great Joe Frazier and 15 rounds with Ali both in their prime.. He fought 68 fights in just 12 years that’s 5 1/2 fights per year all by the age of just 33 sheesh that jus show his durability drive and will took on any challenge and gave his all every time… Rip Ringo
Patterson must’ve been in superb condition here. He danced on his toes the entire fight.
He threw 5 punches per round
Floyd &:Mike were both adopted as sons by Cus D'Amato. I still believe that Cus's passing hurt Mike Tyson personally and professionally, more than any other single thing in Mike's life.
Joe Frazier won the gold medal in Tokyo in 1964, George Foreman won the gold in Mexico City in 1968. John Condon erred.
Smokin Joe, only got to the Olympics because Buster Mathias, who beat Joe in Olympic Trials broke his thumb and Joe was his replacement, and Joe Won the gold
@@JomoDaMusicManTrue, but it Mathis, not Mathias, and Joe kicked his ass in the pro ranks, a KO, or TKO, if I remember correctly.
Wow. This fight has more exciting action that the Thrilla In Manilla.
Wow, I didnt know John Condon also was a ring announcer for boxing, I knew he did the knicks
Addie had suddenly died sometime-i believe-after the 3/08/71 Frazier-Ali Fight o' th'Century and the Garden brass were using different guys t'fill in during that aftermath
Con razón Allí le puso conejo. Aguante Bonavena, grande Argentina!!
Ali
Bonavena got robbed in his fight with Frazier, had him floored twice in the second round and it went 10 rounds. Frazier pressed the action as usual, but Bonavena scored more overall, shitty NYC judging.
Que gran leyenda Oscar ringo
Bonavena reminds me of Roldan the middleweight who fought a peak Hagler ….Roldan had a lot of success early of against Marvin because he was so ungainly, strong and rough …..
Patterson is truly a great champion. He KO's Henry Cooper putting him down twice an easily beating Bonavena. I wonder how he would have fare against Frazier.
frazier was to much for patterson good they never fought
Patterson vs Frazier wouldve been great, I think Frazier gets the best of him and wins by KO in later rounds though
Frazier wud of easily won…
I would have liked to see Floyd get a shot at Frazier after this win in '72. Frazier fought Stander and Daniels in '72, both who were barely top 20. Frazier was severely diminished after his win over Ali and although he probably would have KO'd Floyd, it would have been more interesting than either Daniels or Stander.
Frazier didn't want Floyd neither did Marciano. They BOTH ducked Floyd for some reason. Marciano retired rather than fight Floyd.
Joe ducked MANY fighters including Floyd in the 60's, then Ron Lyle and Earnie Shavers in the 70's.
Frazier wouldve KILLED Patterson!
He had no reason to duck Floyd haha Floyd is the one who ducks
Frazier would have beat Lyles and Shavers . They were nowhere near Fraziers level smh
Was sad what Happened to Oscar, a real old fashioned scrapper. Floyd as classy as ever. Good fight
Kind of tough competing for a title shot when the top contenders in your division are George Foreman and Muhammad Ali.

I assume Floyd wanted another shot at the championship but does anyone think he would have handled Frazier? A year later it would have been Foreman. He fought Liston twice so he was not afraid to tackle the best.
He also fought Ali twice
Didn't see this as a Patterson win. Certainly not a unanimous one. It smacked of a hometown/sentimental decision for Floyd. I think you could argue that Oscar sneaked it through his more consistent aggressive intent, while Floyd spent a lot of time simply bouncing up and down out of range. However an overall fairer decision would have been a draw
There was a Spiderman villain called Kraven the Hunter.
I know this was not Floyd's last fight but it was his last big win. I am sure that at his advanced age and diminutive stature, it was dicey that he would handle this bull
Named my first cat after Bonavena
Rocky character had Ringo as a model... great theater
Sorry, Rocky was modeled after the Ali v Wepner fight.
Hard to see how Patterson won unanimously. Floyd did not do enough offensively. Ringo knocked down Patterson early. My scoring card was 4-4-2. Draw.
This film (Colorized) is too dark to tell but Most of Oscar's punches are missing or landing on Floyds gloves. You might want to look for the original B&W WPIX Broadcast. I saw the original here on the tube and had a ringside seat for the live fight.
The knockdown was more of a slip, and shouldn't have been judged a knockdown.
Fue empate grande ringo
Condon announced some fights after Johnny Addee died, but not too many.
+Dana Preis I didnt know he did. I knew he was the announcer for the Knicks. Should have stayed as ring announcer, did a good job.
+Kevin Cordoba-Llanos Condon did a good job. The fellow that took over permanently for Johnnie Addie was Joe Bostic, who was no great shakes. But Bostic had to follow Addie who was obviously a legend.
Dana Preis Yea I loved John Condon as the Knicks announcer, better than all the shitty NBA announcers of today. He did a good job commenting the Norton vs Quarry fight and the Carlos Monzon vs Tony Licata fight.
Yea Johnny Addie was from the old school, thats why l like him.
And boxing at the Garden was amazing in those days. I used to love the pre-fight introductions of all the former greats. So amazing.
Dana Preis Yea they dont do that anymore. Kind of sad. I like Addie and Condon because they dont try to make it about themselves, like Michael Buffer does. I do love Jimmy Lennon Sr as well.
Vamos Ringo carajo
Claramente viste otra pelea

Patterson, my idea of what a Heavyweight Champion is…
down under is Australia, not Argentina.
FAIR
Did he say Patterson had the fastest hands when Muhammad Ali was boxing
He had faster hands than Ali, but Ali was fast in everything, thats the difference.
@@T1Creator Patterson was the fastest and most accurate puncher. Ali had fast hands but had many misses which does not count.
YEAH, AND EVEN ALI SAID IT.
Patterson is a great running man in this figth.
He never stood still.
@@kevinquinn3763 WAS HE SUPPOSED TO?
Ali called it he's riding his bicycle.
timing was odd, introducing all the former champs, while the fighters for this bout have to hang around getting cold.... (⌒▽⌒)

They introduced Joe Frazier as the "1968 Olympic Champion", but that's not correct.. Frazier won the Olympics in 1964. & He won the Professional Vacant Heavyweight Title in 1968
Joe Frazier would have TKO Patterson between 6th -9th rounds, Bonavenia, Paterson could have been draw it wasn't no Unanimous decision for paterson
