  • In today's video, I'll be showing you how to lengthen or shorten the sleeves of a sewing pattern. This is a simple but very common pattern adjustment. I'll demonstrate how make the pattern adjustment to tapered and bell shaped sleeves and explain why you don't want to just adjust at the end of the sleeve. Side note: How much you adjust the length will depend on the pattern, your personal measurements and personal preference. In this video, we'll focus on how to make the adjustment properly.

Very helpful info. I especially like that you explained why you don’t make adjustments in certain areas. Knowing ‘why’ to avoid those areas made all the difference for me! Thank you!

hello and thank you for your video,it was very helpful.I have a question regarding sleeves.I have a basic bodice pattern and I want to make different kinds of sleeves because I really like the effect. What should I watch out in regards of the armhole? 🙏

Hi Maria, You want to look out for adding or subtracting from the sleeve cap because that will change how it fits in the armhole. If you make the sleeve cap bigger, you could end up with gathers when you try to fit it to the armhole. (Sometimes that's an adjustment that you want to make though.) If you're changing the design of the sleeve but not the sleeve cap, there's less to worry about because unless you have a cuff, it doesn't need to fit into another pattern piece.
