Sony's auto focusing system on their modern cameras is so ridiculously good!
Jared, please, when you do the full review compare the VII to the V. A lot of us never bought the VI because of the lens and internal ND. The VI was not a serious option. However, the new one becomes an option due to the unlimited 4K (but want to see how heating goes in real world use) and the mic jack. Will need to glue on a filter ring to use a variable ND with it, there are some excellent kits out for the VI that will fit the VII as well.
The 90fps has 2 functions - firstly bragging rights and creating the lust-factor and secondly it is useful to select the best shot at the peak of action if any of us are clever enough to hit the button at the right moment (I know people like that but I am not usually one of them)
The VII vs V segments will be very popular.
This brings back memories. Your hands on review of the Sony RX100 IV was the video that got me into photography!
The stabilization looked amazing on this thing! Price is pretty steep though.

this is a point and shoot, carry anywhere without much fuss camera. So it absolutely should have intuitive and quickly accessable options.
If you have a 10 grand studio camera and take pictures of paid models you can have all the menu depth you want, but not in this consumer camera.

Excellent video! I bought the RX100 VI about 6 months ago intending to use it occasionally when I wanted to travel light and leave the 7200 and gear at home. I'm using the Sony a lot more than I expected to. It's a seriously capable camera for its size.
Bought an M6 last month, but will be returning for the M7. Same price, so why not. It's a nice, small option for decent light.

I was pleasantly surprised with the used RX100 ii I bought last year for a trip through Europe. If it ever dies then I will look into the IV for a ND filter. I have some beautiful shots from Paris, Versailles, Rome, and Firenze.
Maybe this is the mini A9 that the rumour sites were talking about ?
holsteincowboy yeah that’s my concern. This little guy is a pocket monster now but I was really looking forward to preordering a new APS C body with stabilized 4K 60p... might still happen though!
@@kyleskirata13 Given that Sony has released the a6400 i still think they will update the a6500, which should have IBIS.. I doubt that they'll just cancel that line, as to my understanding it was quite successful. Also while the RX100 VII does seem like a beast now (and Sony listened and added all that many people - including me - requested.. a huge thanks for that!), a stabilised a6x00 is still for a different target audience.. There are plenty of people who invested in glass, and wouldn't just want to be limited to the internal lens, and i can't imagine that Sony would just drop them as customers.

Fantastic video review. Love how that other camera got stuck in Manual mode, which is actually a good feature for you!
You won't need to attach a third-party anything to the camera - look at Japanese video releases of the Mk7 & see a Sony mount to enable the hand held VCT-SGR1 & a Sony Mic.

Sony’s pocket camera now has better video AF than 98% of the cameras on the planet..
Of course it has the best AF when everything is in focus it will be hard to miss it lol

With a Smallrig cage, you're gold. I still would rather have the 24-70 f/1.8 with an ND filter (lost due to the size of the longer lens). Maybe the VIII? I trashed an RX100 V due to dropping. The cage will save it in a drop. Home run by Sony. I pre-ordered.
I've looked through a lot of reviews of this camera I cant find anyone doing any pixel peeping to see exactly how good this sensor is. Like to see image comparisons to a Sony A7R III

2:07 😂😂😂 my „EX“ was dropping it in Italy... I have the Mk IV and using that ND filter so often, specially filming wide open. It’s now almost the perfect camera. F/1.8 back, as well as ND filter and zoom range of Mk IV plus a better macro mode: bingo! If they make the Mk VIII like the Mk VII plus my enhancement request, they gonna sell it like a bakery fresh bread (speaking of a German bakery with real bread and not that US rubber bread).
If they put threats to put an external ND filter it would be perfect! Also, I’d of rather had the 24-70 1.8-2.8 lens.
Nice camera but the wrong lens, I'd only want it with the 1.8/2.8 shorter zoom. Pity they don't offer 2 versions with the 2 lens choices. But wow, that tracking is superb. Interesting to watch the battery reserve disappearing so fast, not useful.

7 photos at 90 FPS gets you the dunk just as the ball is half above the hoop, half inside the net; it gives you the baseball just touching the bat; it gives you the soccer goalee in the air, his hands almost but not quite touching the ball.
Of course it would be even better if you could get 90 shots at 90 FPS, or 180. But maybe in a future full-frame mirrorless.

5 years ago the RX100 III and A7II
were introduced and both were already quite groundbreaking.
The viii next year then will probably be ridiculous, hoping for a detachable lens and water resistance sealed body
RX100 VII is a tempting buy need a Camera in the meantime that can take great pictures with fast auto focus capabilities. Sad to let my A7iii go will eventually get an A9.

Watching your Real World Review of the RX100IV was so good that overcame my phobia of "Fros"....(does that it a Frobia??) ,,,and I hit that subscribe button. In the end, I didn't buy one feeling that the $900 ish would be better spent elsewhere, but the video won me over and made me a fan. Would love to see what you do out on the streets with one of these!! P.S.,,sorry to here about the IVs fate,,no wonder she's an "EX"..
That is full frame camera pricing for a 1 inch sensor camera.
You can say that for almost all camera tbh, the a7ii costs around 800 usd now.
i couldnt decide between the CANON M50 AND THE RX100 VII but i went for the M50 cause of the price... after getting the small rig and lighting and tripods and software editing and all that it really adds up but i wish i could some something more portable although the m50 is also a small camera

The Saramonic SRXM1 is the perfect microphone for this camera and for the G7X mkiii since its small and stands in the mic jack. :)
A solid upgrade, but we're still missing a redesigned menu with full touchscreen capability, UHS-II card support, and a fast USB-C port instead of the horrendously outdated Micro USB port.
A use case you didn’t mention.. casual concert event goers .. this camera should rock at concert events where you don’t have a lanyard that says “I’m a hot shit event pro photographer so don’t bother me” .. I went to The Rolling Stones concert at the Link Tuesday night in Philly .. and I swear, half the people standing in the pit next to the stage had Rx100’s as you would expect from people who spent over a grand each to stand shoulder to shoulder with 50-60ish old yuppies to photograph men in their 70’s.. you.. more than most should know this could be the ultimate point and shoot concert enthusiast’s camera .. since it’s a point and shoot without a detachable lens.. most concert security will let you in with it .. Gimmie a 200mm Point and shoot with stabilized eye focus and 20fps and I’ll show you awesome pictures of a 76 year old Mick Jagger under the lights from 75 feet away..

Think i still prefer the mark iv, only upgrade that really makes a difference for me is the AF.

Ok so If I’m keeping track correctly, Sony has two remaining camera bodies filed to release this year, at least one of which is a (APS C or FF) mirrorless... I believe Sony has one more major press conference and one Private camera related event coming up which are both perfect candidates for product releases.
So here’s my personal dilemma:
I’m a 90% video shooter in either home livestream or run n gun settings. Audio and portability are the most important to me. I’m looking to sell my brand new Sony A7iii body (literally has a Zero shutter count) for around $1700 to fund a new camera. I was planning on either getting an A6400 or whatever the next APS C Sony is.. But this little RX100 VII basically does everything now (unlimited 4K, audio jack and so damn small) that I need.
BUT, given that we know there is at least one more camera coming which might be the APS C I’ve been waiting for with 60p 4K at 10bit.. is it worth it to keep waiting it out?
So... You wanted a mic jack, there are physical limitations. Go get accessories if you want to mount external accessories.

The reason why there is no ND Filter is because of the Lens Design and the 200mm, an ND Filter could not be added but if the mk8 comes out with a 24mm - 70mm it will come with a ND Filter, Sony have not done away with the inbuilt ND Filter.
what makes you think sony will go back to a 70mm lens with the mk8.

My RX100 VI was dropped during a pass off. $400+ to fix the outer ring used for manual focus, etc. I took a pass.

Better Instead use a Blu tack over the view finder and attach the shoe mount and the mic
Funny you've never "properly" reviewed Olympus OMD 1 Mark 2 and various Olympus Pro lenses (for portrait, not wildlife or motocross bikes) that easily keeps up with this camera. Maybe has something to do with the clicks you can get?
ND filter removed. Lens now is 200mm but no 1.8 anymore.
They didnt improve the camera, they just added functions while taking others away.
And I dont know about you, but 1.8 lens and built in ND filter is more important than having a mic jack or 200 mm lens.

I currently have the mk V. I guess I am getting old, this one may cause me to upgrade. Two reasons, the ext mic jack, and the unlimited 4k. Hopefully someone will come up with a cage to mount the mic. I will miss the int ND!
