Hi, I just recently bought the Sony RX100 VII. And I find this video really useful. However this was like 4 years ago and there have been a lot of videos uploaded after this. And when I went to your playlist, you have other cameras there but not this camera. I badly needed the help to make this money spent on this camera, and organize and make a playlist? Thank you so much!!! This video is really helpful!!!!
THANKs for this video. I'm a manual reader, and I'm not through the 800 page PDF yet. I don't know if I'd found your touchpad focus tip anyhow. I find the autofocus to be better than any I've ever used, but when it got confused, I'd resorted to setting one of the back buttons to switch focus to manual and go from there. I use the EVF 99% of the time because I can't see a thing on the screen, and I'm an old-fashioned shooter (retired professional who always preferred dials, etc.) The touchpad focus thing takes care of the 10-15% of times the camera doesn't grab the right spot. This little camera is the most amazing piece of photo equipment I've ever used. It's a tiny bit smaller than my previous fave pocket camera of all time, a 1960s Rollei 35.
Another setting to change from the get-go (if you don't want to be disappointed) is the auto temp off setting. Left on normal, your video clips stop at 5 minutes, and there's no (to my knowledge) real confirmation that this has happened. It's a hard limit designed to avoid overheating. However, if you set the temp to "high" instead of normal, the manual says you can get ~20 minutes of 4k video even at 104 deg ambient temperature. The camera would probably be unholdable at that point. I wouldn't push it, but longer than 5 minutes is definitely something I do once in a while, so it's nice not to have those efforts ruined b/c of a conservative setting.
Thanks a lot. I did it and I'm testing my Sony RX100 VII, it's recording at 34: 44 and it still recording. I don't know when will it stop. Thanks again.
Well done presentation. I recently purchased this wonderful small beastie of a camera because in the past before the Coronavirus/Covid-19 I packed my DSLR w/ lens with me everyday going to work. Well, lifestyle has been slightly modified, well, maybe largely modified, and I didn't want to lug my heavy gear when I needed to go into work and come home. I wanted small with a bit of a long lens because I live in semi-rural Arizona and wildlife's is around, I wanted a bit of bells and whistle that my large camera's have, and I wanted it to fit in my laptop bag with computer when I go to work. So, shopping around, researching, and thinking I don't really need this camera; I love it!
Great video! I made some alterations got my video settings for run & hun filming: - profile HLG2 for delivery of Rec709 or HDR in post - mode A (manual aperture, rest is in auto) - white balance on auto or manual I add motion blur in post if needed. Video quality I get is awesome.
Very informative 👍 I’m in the process of selling my heavy DSLR gear for a much more compact, travel camera and this RX seems a good option. Just subscribed 👍
Thanks for the helpful tips. This camera sure beats lugging a 500mm lens around all day! Could you share with us surf photographers your best zoom video settings when the subject is way out there?
Good call - took a few photos/ videos at a nearby park with the sd card straight out of the older model RX100M5 and "no preview available" when i went to review the pics. Formatted the sd card on-board and all good. Glad i did it before i had images that i really wanted to keep.
Very good video. I previously owned a RX100 IV and sold that when I purchased the Fuji XS 10. That camera is lost in London. I fortunately was given a RX100 VII …< 200 clicks. I have changed the buttons to Incorporate the 1 creative style 2 Focus 3 Drive mode 4 ISO. Having the Fuji I enjoyed using the film simulations which is why I used the Custom Key for creative styles. After I have worked thru the Long and small print Manual I’ll most likely discover how to load preset options to access some specific menus I prefer to use out in the field. I cannot find anyone who has a COMPLETE Video Instruction Course for purchase on the RX100VII .
thank you so much for this. so many useful settings to consider in this video but for me the 'light bulb moment' (no pun meant!) was being able to change the flash setting on the RHS of the wheel to ISO. The flash setting was driving me crazy as I kept pressing it by mistake and I never use flash!
I just got my camera and am still quite inexperienced but I frequently snap off some photos while filming and note that I am unable to do so when recording in 4K. No issues at all on the formats with less resolution.
Wow! Great informative video! I’ve just ordered my RX100m7 but will apply these settings to my RX10m4 as well. Thanks so much for putting this out there 👍
Great video. Very informative. I recently purchased the Sony RX100 VII. Could you do a video showing how you process your raw images from the Sony RX100 Series? I’m having trouble getting them to load into my Photoshop Elements 18. Thanks!
I bought this camera over a year ago because of travel weight and it has provided excellent images (especially for printing up to A2) . I use Nikon D850 generally and occasionally use this from my pocket. But having watched this video it's reenergised my determination to use it more. I've been interested in the SONY a7R III and a7R IV but not sure about it in comparison to my D850? Question please, I have trawled through the menu 4 time and don't see where I can remove/adjust a half sun icon on the back screen... can you help? Thank you.
Can i request video tutorial for lighting adjustment. I don’t know how to use my sony rx100 vii for video lighting adjustment specially morning and night. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi, i just discovered your channel. Great video. I have a queation: i am a owner of a rx100 II and occasional photographer (mostly for travels). I think the focus on the touch screen is what my camera is really missing, but is it the upgrade really worth? Thank you!!
Hi Jerard, please explain in detail how to replace the flash icon on the control wheel with the ISO function. Camera RX100-7. Thanks, I greatly appreciate the info you shared with us.
Thanks for your videos. Im new to Sony so its a big learning curve for me. I recently purchased a Sony RX100V11. I am struggling to find out how to magnify an image to review it properly after shooting. Any advice would be great. thanks
It seems that the copyright info is written only to still image files. At least, neither ffprobe nor exiftool displayed any. Thanks for the video, I found a couple of settings that I've overlooked.
For a lot of videos shooting in full manual is NOT possible...No one ever talks about this. Such as vlogging out in public, damn near impossible to shoot in full manual, you would be changing settings every time you pointed the camera in another direction...New camera users get so confused when they see videos saying "shoot in manual"....
Very informative video!. I’m testing a brand new RX100 VII I got a week ago. Sometimes the EVF shows thin horizontal lines..like the flickering when get when you shoot indoors under bright lights but it also happens when I shoot outdoors even for sunsets.. it’s more prominent when I shoot video. The LCD screen doesn’t have this issue. Is that normal with this type of camera?
The purpose of this video is to assist viewers in setting up their new Sony RX100 VII. People who buy this camera are not beginners. They know about "auto-focus" and what it does. What they are looking for is to understand how to set this camera to the position they want it to be. And not to listen to explanations about what you can do with setting different "focusing positions". A reversal of the time during which the "actual menu" is shown versus the time the presenter is playing with the camera while talking would be very beneficial.
hi i have a question. is there a PAUSE button somewhere in the sony rx100 M7 camera during movie recording. I can't find it and tech support doesn't know either.
On my RX100VII , I have only option 25p 100M , 25p 60M for the XAVC S 4K video. So I haven´t the 30p 60M like you on your video-tutorial. Do you know why ? Thanks for the advice !
Jaz G. Can’t speak for the Mark 2 but it’s light years better than the Canon G7X Mark III that I returned last week. A potato focuses better than that thing did. Just got the RX100VII (my 1st Sony camera) today and I’m blown away with how much of an improvement it is. Wish it had the USB-C charging, onboard ND filter and touch screen menu that the Canon had but otherwise I’m very pleased with my purchase.
Very good video. Thanks for all useful information you share. I just think understanding and following you could be easier, if you talk a bit slowlier. :-)
Hey hey I have a question. I am shooting with the new Sony RX100 VII. I am taking most of my photos (of myself) on a tripod. My problem is: how to do an interval shoot when I am being far away from the camera - the camera locks focus on my face while I click the shutter, but doesn’t continuously follow my face as I walk away (camera doesn’t let me change the focus settings). If I use my phone as remote control i can only take one photo at a time and for a full body photo it’s annoying to always hide my phone.. Hope I am just missing something and you have great advice for me ! Thank you in advance Jelena
Thread a piece of dental floss through the loops of the anchors, then through the loops on the camera body. Then just pull and wiggle the anchor ropes through the tiny camera loops.
As an experienced photographer, but new to Sony rx100 this video was very frustrating and unhelpful. Lots of talk, waving arms and camera around and next to nothing on how to navigate the sony menus to find the settings to change
I find it difficult to understand why you would choose the RX100 , you seem to want to alter almost everything it has been devised for, this is not intended as criticism
Lost me at manual mode. The software on the camera is magnitudes better than you are at detecting the best shot settings. 99% of the time, just use Auto. You use aperture priority if you want to control the depth of field. You use shutter priority if you're shooting things that move. You use manual mode if you're doing something fuken weird.

For recording in darker settings, drop to the lower frame rates (think longer shutter times ).
Hi thanks for your details discussion it’s very helpful please let me know can we do Product Photography or 360 view with Sony RX100 VII ?
I notice that the sharp focus is on the speaker. Is this video filmed with a RX 100 ?
Random question maybe: do you know if you can set a default lens focal length? like 35mm or 50mm instead of widest length?
Very useful information. Thank you!
When adding copyright info, can it be seen on the photo itself or is it somehow embedded?
It’s embedded in the metadata.

It’s significantly better, but significantly more expensive.

If Olympus screws the pooch with the E-M5 MkIII, I'll probably just buy an RX100 VII and be done with it. Or maybe an A6600.

AFC, wide metering, register face, register face priority on, AF drive fast and responsive..depends how far as well
Please add chapters so we don't have to scrub through a 20 minute video :)

Which setting do I change to make it switch the lens back to the good f1.8 one? Lol
