  • The last Fiordland Moose is a legendary creature that is rumored to have survived in the remote wilderness of Fiordland National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. We recently encountered someone on a Fiordland trail who told us about a freaky experience he just had the night before. Here's a quick dive into the history of this mythical animal and a brief firsthand account of what might just be The Last Fiordland Moose.

Fascinating, Jesse. Good fodder for campfire stories. Also I did not know so many animals were brought into the country.

Yeah the mammals that were brought in (especially possums and stoats) have wreaked havoc on the native bird populations

This guy has his information way out they had two separate liberation of moose in NewZealand. First a bull and cow on the west coast. The bull took of and 5he cow hung around for like 16 years and died never reproducing. Then around 10 were let got in Dusky sound and they did bread and were living till the 1960s. The last photo was a Bull a cow and calf all looked healthy. In the 1970s they sent a team down to look for them, they saw no Moose but saw enough evidence to say they were still there a heard 30 to 40 Philip Holden saw on the team an ex deer culled and hunting book author. This information comes from him since then people have looked very hard for them with no sightings except she'd antlers and heigh grazing and foot prints. In the same park there are red dear and Elk that grow very large but have been breed out by the smaller but more aggressive red deer and there more than likely are no more pure bread Elk left .this is a very large park the largest national park in the world and places are unmapped and probably never been walked on by Man. There are deadly bluffs and id say there would have been environmental Deaths to any moose population. So were did they go possibly shot out buy fishing boats on the shore, maybe they found and isolated valley and are still there maybe inbreeding got them only 3 bull moose were ever officially shot ,but hunters can keep secrets? As there were ever only low numbers so people including hunters wouldn't want to say if they had shot one for social back lash I'd say more than 3 have been shot .this is a heavy rain full area maybe they were somewhere and heavy rain came down and the heard of cows and calfs got stuck in the mud and they all died out. I'd like to think that they are still out there and one day the population will get big enough that people start to see them. But if they don't see us they should have no fair of us and even with very low numbers somewhere someone will get a good clear photo. 😊

Speaking of Sasquatch you don't find them, they find you so camp for a minimum of 3 nights off track near a water source deep in Fiordland or any of our inhospitable national parks and forests leave an offering/gift be respectful and expect a visit on the 3rd night. noho haumaru People of the trees.

I don't know anything about this legend nor did I watch this video. But just to say moose drop big loads, leave big tracks, and don't have special powers to avoid game cameras. If there was one... then you'd know about it.

@@JesseStLouis Sorry Jessy but remote backcountry lands don't intimidate me at all. And they don't HIDE 1 ton beast. It's no different than the loonies promoting bigfoot. Sorry man but It's 2022. If you were talking about a mouse or a snake then maybe. But you gotta recognize helicopter charters, drones, game cams, hikers, and a ton of other data collectors. 1 ton beast don't hide out in caves... they travel! So count me out.
