Joel - one of the main reasons why the Graham Norton Show became hugely popular with both audiences and guests alike was that Graham hit on the idea of having all the guests on at the same time rather than interviewing them one at a time. This formula was a big hit as it created a more fun and relaxed atmosphere where guests could interact with each other and very often created some very funny scenes. I think it was Matt Damon who said that this show was the best talk show that he’s ever been on!
and alcohol
A format ripped off, much less effectively, by that odious clown James Corden.
@@pendorran - quite so. Let's hope that Corden quietly disappears into a corner and we never see or hear from him again.
The other thing is Graham Norton was always popular back in the day of channel 4 however before Graham got to the BBC Johnathan Ross ruled the chat show game and unfortunately messed is career up with a phone prank on a radio station that went horribly wrong and people said he went to far. It ended up in court Johnathan Ross was fired and Graham replaced him on the BBC.
Johnathan Ross eventually came back but on channel ITV but unfortunately has never been able to get the high views that Graham Norton has. Johnathan Ross definitely messed up his career.
Totally agree... have tried his ITV show several times and while he's clearly copied the all guests out together format - the flow is always broken regularly by ad breaks.
Comes across too structured, guests with time limits to chat / audience being prompted when / how to react.
On another note, after that phone prank scandal and the show being axed - I thought of "Four Poofs and a Piano" the houseband. They must've had a drop of income!
They were a great subtle presence on each show, camp barbershop quartet - each wearing in circles, the main guest on all their T-shirts, songs usually related in someway to each guest!
His talk show is so relaxed compared with the US ones where it can feel forced
Still scripted though…..
@@ronturner9850 ... loosely scripted by topics, but lubricated with alcohol!
Graham Norton is a genius. Brings out the best in his guests and is a master of comedic timing. Best host ever
couldnt agree more, so many belly laughs watching his shows
yeah huge pay for cackling at his own er jokes ?
@@MrDaiseymay good for him then 👍🏽
We are so lucky here in Australia we’ve always had stacks of British TV, and their comedy is brilliant.
@@donalkinsella4380
I assumed he was from Northern Ireland as that’s part of Britain. Sorry, my bad 🥴
@@donalkinsella4380 I always knew there was trouble and war between north and south, I knew only a few details. Thanks for all that info, will read it again to take it in more and read and learn more about it. I knew it was about the catholics and the Protestants. Yes our Indigenous Aboriginals had a terrible time here in Aus when the fleets came over. Heartbreaking what they went through. I was lucky never to be bought up racist to any culture or religions, never lectured at, just talked about, even in the days when we had a White Australia policy here which ended in the 1960s. What they went through was absolute hell. What they know about looking after this country, the land and so much more of the way they lived here we, some, most? are realising for thousands of years, how dam smart they are regarding looking after the land and so much more, we have been learning slowly for years now. A new doco series started last night, on how they lived, absolutely amazing. If we don’t learn something from them we are all totally stupid here. It’s called The First Inventors. You can google a bit of info on it if u like.
I was thinking about the North and South of Ireland, maybe I’m, no not a dreamer, hopeful I guess, somehow, someway their differences could be solved, as with any country where there is division. I often think, we all live on one tiny planet in an absolutely gigantic universe, we are all human, yet fighting continues. But probably all never stop, but shaking hands after some kids have a fight and become friends again. It would be nice if people on this dot of a planet could. Guess I am a dreamer lol.
Sorry I got the gift of the gab from my dad, passed now. He probably got it from his grandfather who came here from Coventry England, ended up in parliament here. Yes I’m only a third generation from England Ireland (Derry) and Glasgow Scotland. I’ll zip my British/ Aussie mouth now lol 😂💞.
@@bernadettelanders7306 the war wasn’t between the north and south. It was between Nationalist and Unionist in the six counties. Just because you live in the north, doesn’t necessarily make you British. You have a choice to be Irish or British or to be both.
The six counties were created as protestant majority the stalet was gerrymandered, and laws were created to keep the Catholics disempowered. The troubles started out as a civil rights movement based on the civil rights movement in the United States. Catholics wanted equal opportunity, fair pay and the vote.
@@bernadettelanders7306 Graham actually still lives in Ireland for four months out of the year in the summer in cork
@@jgg59
Yes I knew a little, someone explained more recently and I’ve got readings bookmarked to understand a lot more. And your information also helped too, Ta
Just so you know, Graham Norton is Irish. He’s from County Cork. The creative team behind Father Ted and the actors were all Irish. It was produced by British company, but it’s an Irish show
That's a bit of a spin though. The only Irish thing about Graham Norton Show is Graham Norton himself. Literally every single other aspect of the show is run / funded by a British person; Including Graham Stuart who cofounded the studio with Norton and still produces the shows to this day.
Calling this show an "Irish" show is a lot like saying Cadbury is a Belgian company because its CEO is Belgian despite there being literally zero Cadbury factories in Belgium.
Or putting it another way, it would have the same ludicrousness if Graham Norton decided to go host the late late show in the US and you said that show is an "Irish" show.
@@Mundungus I suggest you re-read what I wrote. I just said Graham Norton was Irish. That’s it otherwise I was referring to the father Ted show. Really get a hold of yourself.
The indoor scenes in Fr Ted were filmed in a London studio and the outdoor scenes were on location in Ireland.
Two brilliant comics and story tellers Bill Bailey and Stephen Fry
Not long ago I had a young football team (aged 10 and 11 years old), plus the Coach and a couple of parents come to stay in my Bunkhouse (Hostel?). One afternoon my daughter got her guitar out and sang a few songs for them, one of which was the 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air'. Those kids knew that song word for word and loved singing along with it !! I was shocked? ... 2022 (it was last September) and a bunch of 11 year olds, not only knew the song, but all of the words !!!
Graham Norton is a fantastic chat host. So very relaxed and makes his guests feel so at home and relaxed too. He’s the best! 😁👍
1:07 You’ve started with the legend himself, Robin Williams. Dials it up to a 100 in every interview.
14:14 ABSOLUTE COMEDY ICON. You never know where’s she’s going with a premise 😂
Best female comedian of all time. People dismiss her as just being crude, but she was so clever too.
Nice to see Catherine Tate. There is a Graham Norton show clip with Catherine Tate doing her " Nan" character for Tom Cruise. I think Robin Williams was my favourite ever American comedian. I felt about Robin as you do about Stephen Fry & Bill Bailey Joel.
I never am disappointed with the Graham Norton Show….doesn’t matter how many times I see them, try and see Myrium Marcoles she is hilarious and is often on the show!
I love Graham Norton, he's a national treasure 😊😊
@@donalkinsella4380Graham isn’t Irish he is a bootlicker for the British Establishment, much like Geldeof and Dowling !
Love it when you react to Graham Norton show, it's always hilarious and you can tell the guests just relax and let loose. Please do more 👍
Joan Rivers Classic!!!!!!! More Please!!
Yes Joel, you got it spot on. Miriam Mar Go Lees 👍🏻
It's hilarious to see how much American comedians enjoy being on a show where you can get away with so much more than in your typical US late night show. The Graham Norton show is a jewel of real free speech, without the puritanical self-censorship that we have in the US.
I’ve been watching Graham’s show since he first started which was over 20 years ago. But his first talk show was called “So Graham Norton” and was aired late on Channel 4 which meant it was a much more adult kindof show. There are clips on UA-cam of it. They couldn’t get all the top celebrities so what they used to do was get formerly famous celebrities on there- I.e people who were huge in the 70’s or 80’s etc. it built up such a strong audience that he was able to move over to BBC1 with his more mainstream talk show.
My favourite episodes on Graham Norton are with British female actors who are veterans. My favourite is Miriam Margolyes as well (don’t worry, you got the name right). An underrated guest is Dame Helen Mirren.
Judi Dench is my fav. 😊
The Will Smith apperances at this show weregreat! When he was there with Tom Jones, Will performed the theme song "Fresh Prince" and everbody in the audience is singing. Really fun to watch. Years later he was on this show again with hin son and they performed, too. The "Wild West" stuff ... pretty amazing apperance and worth checking it out.
Great content once again! Try the episode with Bill Murray, Matt Damon and Hugh Bonneville, its wild. I still watch that episode in full even after all the years.
That was hysterical. The one with Judi Dench and Ellton John was pretty good too.
10:21 You have to see Julie Walters and 50 Cent talking to each other. React to a Julie Walters compilation next.
Graham Norton went from Father Ted straight to The Graham Norton Show.
I always loved when Joan rivers appeared on his show. Hilarious
Laughing crying
Joan Rivers - absolute legend!!!❤️
Bill Bailey was amazing as Manny in " Black Books" ❤❤
4:48 The Osbournes have had quite a journey themselves. They’re so adorable. Sharon is absolutely fabulous!
I enjoyed these😄 thanks for sharing 👍✨
Love that show, glad your showing reactions mate, keep it up
More yes please. Such fun and gr8 to enjoy. Thanks.😅
Go for more of these Joel, they’re comedy gold. 👍👍👍
How great is this fabulous selection of people absolutely amazing thank you
Excellent! More please.
There are so many of the Grahams shows that are so good Love it x
I just found your channel. I discovered a lot of UA-cam channels during lockdown and really enjoyed a lot of UK chat/panel/game shows and television series. Sounds like you have a fondness for them too. Such fun!
Graham Norton show was so good, definitely do more!
When Graham appeared on Father Ted he was virtually unknown. A new TV channel started in 1997 that had a nightly chat show hosted by Scottish comedian Jack Docherty. When Jack was away once Graham filled in for him and Channel 4 saw him and decided to give Graham his own nightly show. It was a huge success and the BBC the decided to poach him. Initially his show on the BBC was not the success it is now, partly because the BBC had other weekly chat shows hosted by Michael Parkinson and Jonathan Ross. When those shows fell away the BBC gave Graham top billing and his show has gone from strength to strength. I don’t know what happened to Jack Docherty’s career but I suspect he rues the day that Graham filled in for him.
Oh I had forgotten Jack Docherty, what happened to him?
One thing on this. CHANNEL 4 started in the early 1980s, I knew of it in 1981 as we were in a test area.
@@jimbo6059 I was referring to Jack Docherty’s show on Channel 5. Channel 5 started in 1997.
@@krisjonesuk Oh wow, never heard of that show, never watched channel 5 really. But Graham was on channel 4 long before. He had his So Graham Norton and other shows through most of the 1990s. He was off air for a while and i think that was when he covered for jack docherty. Father ted was more of a late 80s early nineties rgjng and it all started really from there.
@@jimbo6059 Your timing is mistaken. It was only after Channel 4 had seen Graham host Jack Docherty’s show that they commissioned him to do his chat show for them. His chat show on Channel 4 started in 1998, continuing till 2004, before he moved to the BBC. Before his Channel 4 chat show his only appearances on the channel were in Father Ted.
Loved thankyou
Just joined your Patreon, the only one ever because I love your content. Keep going, you're doing great. Love your reactions to British humour as well as the serious posts. Best wishes from a Brit expat in Central Portugal 😂
Hi Mark from Oxford, UK. Try out ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ the tv comedy series from BBC. Gives you a great insight into middle class England. Love your videos and your love of my country. Keep up the good work.
My favourites are when they have a mix of British and American guests on. The US ones are always shocked by the things the Poms come out with and the wine flows which brings out the good stories. Some of my favourites are the Xmen ones of James McIlvoy, Hugh Jackman and Michael Fassbender together. They are hilarious.
@@donalkinsella4380 yeah I know. Graham was funny on Father Ted 😂
Since ya like "british" accents like Graham Norton or those accents in Fr. Ted, I might have to send you an Irish flag in the post to hang on your wall!! 😀
Graham Norton is my favorite host, has been for years. But another favorite was Craig Ferguson. Completely different format but what I loved about Craig was his creativity (puppets) and his interviews with B list female actors.
Robin Williams interview with Graham was a hilarious as you'd imagine. Oh, had a thought, if you like Bill Bailey, watch the comedy series "Black Books". :)
Fantastic clips.
Only Joan Rivers, could make Katherine Tate blush, lol. This was a really good compilation, funny all the way. Yes, please do more. Thanks Joel. ❤
Graham Norton is a fantastic host, he first had his show on BBC 2, 22 Feb 2007, then moved to BBC 1 in October 2009. Watching all the famous actors & hearing different songs is just brill!!
Yes Joel, MORE!!! John in Canada
Great fun, you never know what's going to happen! Poor Robin, he was so quick and clever! Oh Ricky! Ozzie! Stephen, Jimmy, Alan, Chris - hilarious - Tom, Will! 😂🥃😆👍
I think you should check out TOM HALL, Salamanca Friday Night Out/ Hobart! A little slice of England in Australia, with more! 😁 And, Brisbane Vice City! Nightlife in the Fortitude Valley - UNDERDOG! 👍
Graham Norton show has been running on BBC for over 20 years now! He had a similar show on channel 4 for a number of years previous to this. He's a staple of Friday late night tv.
He's different in that he goes places where many other hosts/shows won't go and lets the celebrity guests do the same.
YES, I'm so glad that particular Joan Rivers clip was in there; she really was something special. Joel since you loved Miriam, I FULLY recommend all Joan's Graham Norton clips, as well as her appearances on Parkinson. She was undoubtedly the funniest female comedian of all time.
Keep reacting to Graham!!
Hands down best talk show all around
Do more!!!!❤
Love Graham Norton but been missing your videos on here
I love Graham Norton Show celebrities get tipsy, and tell all the fun stuff!
He been doing live shows for decades, so he is well equiped for this type of show (even though its not live) but it helps him with any audience interaction and also helps him rolls with any punches he gets from guests really well. He has a very quick whitted comedic mind which helps plus this show also focuses on the guests more than the host, so he has the energy to spring into action when needed, thats where a lot of other shows fall short by focusing too much on the actual host.
Yeh, Dame Edna would be worth a look.....
“I think Olga has a surprise for us!” 😂 oh my Lord! We miss you Mr Williams
Oh that was so funny I watch tik tok but I never enjoy it as much as when I share it with you JT thanks❤
the first clip - I'm in the audience !
Father Ted is hysterical and Graham Norton is brilliant in it.
I remember The Graham Norton show from many years ago where Graham had his celebrity guests involved with doing crazy funny outlandish stunts during the show. In recent years, The Graham Norton show format is more of a celebrity talk show on the couch which is still a great talk show but it is a little more tame than the show used to be.
Love Graham Norton.
Now that you've done several Graham Norton clips, which I'm sure your subscribers have enjoyed, perhaps it's time you looked at this show's precursor. That is the Michael Parkinson Show, which ran for over 30 years. The guests he invited most often included: Billy Connolly, Peter Ustinov, Peter Kay, Muhammad Ali, Edna Everage, and David Attenborough.
Yes, Peter Kay started off as the 'warm-up man' on Parkinson...!
His guests (in the early years anyway) weren't there to plug anything.
Show part two please Joel ❤❤❤🇦🇺🐨🐨🇦🇺
Charisma is invariably a selling feature 👍
It started in 2007 and last month was the end of season 30. It stars again around sept/oct time. Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks are regulars. Tom Cruise has cakes sent to people he likes. The Graham Norton show gets sent one.
You need to check out more Joan Rivers. A comedy legend 😂😂😂
I don't think I want to see Joel lopk quite so flummoxed, bewildered, embarrassed
You should watch the red chair stories 😂
I've been watching Graham Norton for years and years. So funny. UA-cam Algorithm started sticking him in my recommendations well over 5 years ago when I started watching British television almost exclusively for it's far superior drama, characters and all over writing!
Comediennes are very good at pushing the envelope 😄👍
There's some Graham Norton compilations with just Joan Rivers clips (similar to Miriam Margolyes compilations). Hilarious if you can find them. Keep up the good work!
Robin Williams at the start 😢 one of the funniest people to have ever lived
Graham said he gets the stars liquored up hahaha
This compilation is quite funny, but there are more out there which are even more fun.
Also his guests are offered drinks which I’m sure makes for a more relaxed atmosphere. You should do the one with Chris Pratt accents, the one Will Smith does his sitcom theme song and the one where Mark Wahlberg gets drunk and sits on Graham lap.
We were told dried banana skins lol. Amount of times we tried it lol. Some of lads would swear they were stoned lol
You need to look up the Miriam Margolyes (not sure if spelt right) episodes 😉👍🏻
Please try a compilation of his original chat show 'So Graham Norton' , his move to BBC One with The Graham Norton show while still good was made a lot more tame.
Great to see you enjoying our humour, as you did your visit to my local North East England a while ago... would you review the award wining film The Windermere Children - it is a true story, and filmed locally too. You will need tissues.
sad it is just 88 min, I could have watched a 3 hour epic
“The character! The character did that!”
::SLAP::
His late night adult activities quiz was fun and one of the first times he was on TV, before he did talk shows on ITV or the BEEB
Have you ever watched "The Distinguished Gentleman", Eddie Murphy as Chris Rock in the House of Representatives
Check out Greg Davies on Graham’s show (with Ryan Gosling). Also Miriam Margoyles.
Chris Rock needs to come back. I applaud him for his stand up. Graham Norton has grown on us as the years have gone by. He is a great at making people feel at ease, but does get the odd but of information of a more personal nature from them. Fantastic.
You’ll be pleased to hear that Jimmy Carr has announced a US tour. Check it out 👍👍👍
Also second a previous commenter about recommending Dame Edna Everage (Barry Humphries) on the Michael Parkinson show.
You need to check out his old stuff on Channel 4, it was so much more risky.
Miriam’s in hospital and just about to have a TAVI op at The Royal Brompton Hospital as a private patient - £55k. She’s 80. She’ll be fine …
Omg crying laughing at Joan Rivers rest in peace babe
Robin Williams, what a man, what a tragedy
Graham Norton has had his show for just over 20 years
No other talk show like it.
He allows the guests to talk unlike the American hosts I see who make it all about them.
Norton is a master.
Makes sense he likes a queen!
Ricky Gervais...in a suit and tie!! When did that happen? Shocked and appalled. 😊
Genuinely said aloud “ of for fuck sake” when I saw that! Shocking 😂
*Joel frantically googling Katey Price / Jordan* 👀 7:50
And to think that Graham was seriously considering retiring from his show a few years ago. He obviously changed his mind when they forced money into his hand! 😊
Reaction to Rod Hull and Emu with Michael Parkinson would be fun
I somehow always forget how hilarious Joan Rivers is/was... until she talks for longer than 30 seconds. 🤣
Miriam is now an Australian.
