The Slashers Altered Anatomy Explored | Dead Space Remake Marker Lore Explained

- Man I gotta tell ya, its good to be back on home turf! In the events in Dead Space and then the subsequent Remake, the Slashers got fairly beefed up. Their overall size appeared to increase which would indicate that not only was muscle mass increasing to a degree, but bone length and density as well. I mean compare Hammond to Chen during their encounter. But what causes their bodies to be able to pull this off and how does it work? lets discuss that in todays episode!

No problem man.
You aren't going to delete your previous dead space videos are you?
@@dtay8913 I wouldn’t say so.
If you're keen to do another movie, you might get a kick out of wyrmwood roanoke.
Super strange
I'd love to hear you explain that one
Plot twist: isaac was already infected and he killed innocent people thinking they are necromorphs
We've come full circle folks. I was first exposed to this channel thanks to dead space and now I've been here long enough to see it return.
Honestly great to be back in my element with this game haha
My lord 5 years since the first Slasher video :o
Now if only they'd make a movie get John To direct and I could die happy knowing he got to do another "Thing" but with modern tech and actually get the praise he deserves.
A shame I started with Cloverfield and can never complete a circle 😢😅
Same
With this videos, I'm starting to worry about Roanoke becoming that crazy scientist guy who starts converting other people into the zombie/creature because it evolves the body or species. Like, "they don't need food, they don't need to sleep, they are perfect."
noooooooo thatd be crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy ;)
- they also dont feel pain and can live until their brains are destroyed so no overpriced healthcare needed anymore

What you said That log about shooting off the limbs just incapacitates the necros and regrow limbs later is interesting. It kinda explains why there isn’t just a finite number aboard the ishimura and how the bodies just disappear then you go back into a room.
It even kinda explains the new respawn mechanic that MOTIVE added to the necros when you backtrack across the ship.
Man, attention to details like that is what makes this remake so awesome.
They simply melt and reform!
That also makes being stuck on a ship full of them all the more terrifying. Hammond's comment about there only being about 1000 crew members on board made me think would 1000 bodies really create all this, especially with the leviathan and the corruption? Some parts of the latter might be from bio mass on Aegis VII but the fact enemies can just come back to get you later no matter how many times you take them down on a cramped, lone ship is just terrifying.
I can't proclaim how unironically your channel has helped me remember cool facts and get through microbiology, anatomy and some of my other nurse school classes. I always love the deep science dives from the original dead space videos and now full circle back to the remake! You're the man Papa Roanoke!
Thank you thank you it’s a pleasure
Finally, Roanoke in his original environment. Nature is healing
The image of the Brother Moons lined up makes me question if my facial cognition is acting up, or if they intentionally sculpted a decayed skull grinning into the center-most moon…
Anyroad! Cheers! I’ve waited for this deep-dive to begin since they announced the remake.
Kind of makes you wonder why humans look the way they do in the dead space universe
At last, you have returned and made us whole again roanoke, I found your videos in 2021 and just love how detailed they were to where I played all the dead space games and loved them, even if people hated DS3 10 years later they remade the first game.
I never understood the VISCERAL hate for DS3, I always thought it was alright haha then again I love dead space in all its forms, but thanks for watching it man!
@@RoanokeGaming
I never understood the hate either. I noticed that everyone who hated on the game only focuses on the negatives while completely ignoring the positives. While DS3 was flawed, it still had some of the most memorable sections in the entire series, such as the underground section & the part in space that lets you explore various derelict ships, which is very Dead Space.
@@RoanokeGaming Typical reaction when an IP shifts genres as the story evolves past what's believable in the original genre. It's a particularly bad reaction when survival horror IPs shift away from survival horror and more towards action or action/horror. People don't like change.
@@reaperreaper5098 I understand why they shifted the tone of the game to be more action-based survival i mean it was 2013 and i guess EA wanted to follow suit with the rest of the industry but then do a 180 and release a remake of the first game that no one saw coming.
I read a log mentioning how the bacteria act like a virus and I couldn’t help but be remembered of your old dead space videos lol
Great job for keeping us entertained all these years! Thank you
And thank you for sticking around all these years!
I've never actually played Dead Space, but I love how you go over the series. The biologically and physiologically insight into fiction is great. Especially in such a spooky and interesting game as this. I've watched through your Dead Space playlist a number of times. Great to listen to and to use as just background noise. Keep it up!
I wouldn't be surprised if Ellie's immunity didn't extend to others. Given that Isaac's first meeting with her resulted in a very clear *Stay Away* message bc she had to deal with her friends attempting to 86 her earlier on.
Belief in things like unitoligy may also affect it as well because she doesn't but Mercer does and he was still functional.
She never stated that her friend tried to ice her, her exact words were " And don't say your here to help, the last person who said that tried to kill me." she had to fight her friends off as necromorphs, but that's not friend killing, they were already dead.
@@xxprototypexx5056 she meant the dementia signal caused some like the last person who claimed help but did otherwise to go crazy but she wasn't aware of the signal at the time.
It is also shown in Dead Space Aftermath that someone affected by Marker dementia will stay that way after the signal disappears.
One of the creepiest parts about Phineas Gage's injury was that he got a terrible fungal infection in the hole where his brain injury occured. There were claims that he literally had fungus growing in and around the hole in his skull...
Oh I could definitely see that happening with how the brains patrolled by the immune system
What about the fungal infection in and around my pee pee, that's the real cosmic horror.
Must've been keeping him alive
We're lucky we don't live in a "The Last of Us" scenario starting in 1848 instead of 2003.

It's always a good day when Roanoke cranks out a Dead Space video and tells the UA-cam Elder Gods that he still has that dog in him
Gotta keep going XD
This is actually amazing. I had seen your older video from wayyy back about Slashers before and it, along with the other Dead Space stuff is what got me hooked on to your channel. This channel is what helped me realize that biology is fun and amazing and now I am a graduating 4th yr. Biology student currently taking Microbiology as major. Thanks for your work man!! keep it up.

25:22 This was actually a deliberate design choice. In the original Deadspace the hallucinations were actually helping you to some degree, which changed in Deadspace 2 due to a disagreement in story direction.
One of the original devs of the game talks about this in this video while he's sitting shotgun to someone playing the remake
Timestamped for relevancy.

It ain't a noake' video without him saying "and onto the feet." Glad to see you returning to deadspace man! I know you normally stick to content you yourself enjoy, i still wish one day to see a breakdown of the witchers and their mutations.
Something I've always wondered about Necromorphs is can they swim? Cause when you think about they really are nothing but muscle and bone, fat seems nonexistent on their bodies.
You can use the force gun to blast all the flesh off of the necromorphs, this could be really good for examining the skeletal structure :D
Edit: Ahhh nevermind, I did the comment without watching to the end thing again. anyway have an algorithm comment
18:36 Basically that scene in Cowboys VS Aliens when the kid is trapped in the crevasse & the alien is attempting to reach him with those gut-wrenching arms.
It's been a minute since I've delved into dead space law. Still, I remember it being mentioned somewhere, maybe in dead space 2, that part of the reason people go crazy is because the marker is trying to upload the schematics on how to make more markers into their brain and most people don't have the organic hard drive space for that.
Roanoke it was you that had me see the Dead Space series for the first time and I got all three game just to see every enemy for myself and it was terrifying. I never was one for horror games except zombies but in the end beaten all three original games and was wait for the 4th one to then realize they never made one, now am a bit nervous to jump back into a remake one though.
One thing to note, i believe in Dead Space Martyr the theory that the Markers are responsible for human evolution is postulated by Altman and then recanted once he comes to understand the Marker on a deeper level.
Interesting, I had no run across that yet, Ill need to look into that!
@Roanoke Gaming its near the end of the book, but by the time he changes his mind everyone believes his initial theory! That's actually how unitology began and is one of their first core beliefs. It'll be easier getting the book as a pdf since the physical copies are marked up to like 300 smackaroos
Looking forward to watching this during my lunch break!
hope you enjoy your lunch!
*THE REMAKES ARE COMIN'!*
Hopefully we'll have material for remakin' some of the old Dead Space videos and more~
Roanoke is going to have a field day over the next few months.

Resident evil 4 remake
It’s awesome that people who write the wikis pay attention to your vids and add it into the lore
I think it was Hammond that questioned whether cutting off the limbs actually killed them or just incapacitated them.
It's fair to say that, at least at first, the miners were attacking Sam. It's possible that it wasn't until he was near the elevator that he actually lost it. As P-Sec was coming down the elevator, they would have seen him killing people there and just concluded that he was the guy had snapped and murdered everyone. They were unable to do any real investigation, what with there being a mass self offing and higher ups much more interested in the security of the Marker rather than the colonists.
it was, I ran into that later recording haha
I wonder if the marker could potentially damage the brain like if you think about it the markers signal is strong enough to mess with human minds it could overload the brain to the point it could damage parts of the brain which would allow the marker to further puppet one or more people
Man, between you and MiniminuteMan, I finally have a "Discovery" channel worth watching again
Ill have to check that guy out!
You should do lore and anatomy on berserker from gears of war and ceph from crysis series next.

I’m so glad the Dead Space content is back! This channel is the reason I got into the game franchise in the first place
This video sends me back. I'm so proud of how much Roanoke has grown over the past few years. Cheers, man! Laffynoskill and Itsnotaspoon, we miss you!

28:41 Quote from Roanoke when fighting necromorphs "Go Goblin Mode on Em"!
Small theory but I think mercer was chosen by the marker to make Harris into the hunter and basically protects him from other necros. He does make a remake when the tentacles attack on the ishimura saying no you said I wld be spared. Which to me says that the marker does speak for the brothers moon. Which kinda makes me wonder now.
More deadspace content from my favorite deadspace UA-camr👍
ayyyy thanks for watchin my boy :)
Hey Roanoke! Would the Quadrupedal template you mentioned be due to the Red Marker being a human replica? We would have done animal testing before human trials so that template makes sense.
Always love your videos.
Thank you for watching bro!
About 30 minutes and all I come away with is that if she's too clingy, sometimes you just gotta stomp her out. Thanks papa Roanoke.
:D
Watching this video is like that one scene from Ratatouille where the critic guy has the food and then experiences a nostalgic flashback LMAO. Love to see the return to Dead Space content Roanoke! Can't wait to see more my dude!
Hey the greatest analysis you could ever do and hasn't been done before. You should do a review, analysis , anatomy, and how the earth would fair in combat is the fearsome intergalactic CONEHEADS!!!!!!
When he mentions the whole quadrapedal stance for the slashers, it reminds me of how some slashers in dead space 2 and 3 ACTUALLY choose to run at you on all fours; The dead space 3 twitchers especially.
YEAH! BACK TO THE FEET! Glad you're embracing it again Roanoke
"I want to buy groceries." Dude, you are 95% of the reason I'm studying biology. This is by far my favorite channel for years now.

It's good to see you back in your roots
I remember the first videos from years ago, feels nostalgic now.
I see RoanokeGaming with new video on Necromorphs. I click. For the Mark...Science!
thanks bby ;)
I found this channel a few years ago after playing 08 dead space 250 times, ive stayed to watch the remastered dead space come back n I've waited years for my childhood games get remastered
I’ve been playing this game over and over, I haven’t felt like I’ve played a COMPLETE game in so damn long. Great video to listen to while stomping necromorphs
It was the og video about the Slasher that made me aware of and love the channel. Now it’s a full swing back
I like the idea that the Marker wants to mold biomass over a template, giving us the different Necromorph types. Maybe these "templates" were previous lifeforms the Markers have consumed?
Think about it. Many of the "new" Necromorphs in DS2 were human shaped. (Puker, Pack, Stalker). And we know the Markers had consumed Aegis 7 Colony, the Tau Volantis Colony, The Ishimura, Valor and most of the population of Titan Station.
I love seeing Dead Space come back to the channel. I can't wait to start at the feet all over again.
Nice a new roanoke video! Gonna lie down on the couch and learn and enjoy.
*shows videos of cats, drives my dog off the walls*
Guess not
7:40 I actually suffered a really really severe traumatic brain injury in a car crash, and I have a lot of emotional regulation issues very similar to Gage. I mostly deal with frustration and rage, which come out at very random times lol
Well the good news is through neuroplasticity, its very possible that may get better as you get older, but regardless I am sorry to hear that happened bro
@Roanoke Gaming It's all good! I've recovered REALLY well cause I turned 21, 2 weeks before the crash, and most people can't see that anything is wrong with me :)
My god the nostalgia. I found you during the original dead space stuff back when you used copyrighted music louder then your own voice lol.
This is the best time to be alive.
Im so glad your back to dead space, these are always my favorite videos from you! Cant wait for more!
I yelped with excitement when I saw Roanoke finally gets to truly revisit Dead Space with updated views due to the remake. He adds so much context to things we take for granted in games and it’s great!
You know what I wanna see Roanoke do a video on? Fluffy the crate monster from creepshow. I always found that creature to be insanely fascinating!
Roanoke with Force Gun, Flamethrower and Stasis Protype in his hand: Its anatomy time, boys
Necromorphs: gods have mercy
As long as dead space exists Roanoke will continue talking about it XD
I am so glad I get to see more dead space content. When we get a new dead space we get more dead space content. Just love it, it's great
I the new dead space game really cool it’s looks great. But dude I wish they added some more of “those things” but I’m happy overall!
Which things???
You know how in the game they call the necomorphs “ those things” I was just joking Ok😡
I haven’t finished the episode yet but I’m curious. The marker used cortisol (I’m not sure how to spell it) to kickstart the infection essentially. Which brings us to my question, would it infect people with ADHD more quickly or would they be more resistant due to being used to it? For those who don’t know ADHD is cause by the brain producing less dopamine and replacing it with cortisol. Of course it could just infect everyone the same and my question could be useless but I think it’s still something to chew on.
I predict that trying to rescuscitate a person in range of a Marker will trigger one helluva fight between the immune system and the Marker. Almost certainly resulting in death BECAUSE its Deadspace, in a fight the Marker wins.
Yesssss, been waiting for the remake dead space vids.
YES THE NEED OF ROANOKE DEAD SPACE CONTENT IS BEING MET
Yessir back to dead space lore 🤘
Could it be that the quadrupedal template could be the first species it infected. Or that quad is a "better safe than sorry" template?
Story wise, I still think Extraction is the best on rails shooter ever made. The Wii and PS3 got a gem with that game.
The slagathor that was fun to spell
28:05
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What did you think of the added side quests and the logs that were redone? I like how you touched on the stomach stuff, are you going to do a video on the spitter Nacros?
I really hope someday you make a mini series on warframe biology explained
Always a pleasure hearing you speak. I have a question though:
I don’t know how to word it properly, but can necromorphs starve to death? I don’t remember if their only goal was to spread their species or if they actually eat other living organisms (including themselves)
So, basically, I was wondering if the Ishimura issue would’ve been resolved by not sending ANYONE in advance so after a while all the creatures would’ve run out of nutrients and just die of starvation lmao
the answer to that is no cause in dead space 3 when you first board one of the ships in orbit of the ice planet, the first necromorphs you encounter there were in a state of hibernation and kinda looked like mummified husks, and in lore those ships have been there for hundreds of years.
in the case of the ishimura, it would not have gone that far as the ship was in decaying orbit anyway before issac even arrived and with the air already slowly being poisoned by the leviathan so after a while all that will happen is every remaining survivor will have died to the poisoned air and with no one left to fix the engines or the centrifuge, the ship along with its tectonic load will slowly but surely crash down onto aegis 7 where the ship and colony will have been destroyed along with the marker.
so in a way yes the ishimura issue would resolve itself just not through starvation.
Anytime I feel the slightest pain, discomfort, or get hurt really bad, I now say "Ow, My meat suit"
Wait, I just thought of something.
If CEC wanted to bury the Red Marker forever, then why didn't they just nuke it?
The ship with the soldiers were ready to bomb the Ishimura with the Marker on board.
I have a weird brain. Doctors told me once when I was young My hypothalamus and Frontal Lobe are much larger then most people. So maybe I would be able to resist the Markers signals longer then most, but I am sure I would maybe fall victim to it eventually if I don't destroy it or escape. Though my Hypothalamus might over charge me into a raging lunitic focused on getting away.
Who knows.
Been waiting for this one!
You should cover the infected enemies in warframe. They're pretty neat, and I'd love to know more about them!
They need to hire Roanoke as a scientist in dead space 2 remake
I almost choked when you shot that Slasher playing dead in the a$$, instantly killing it..
I wish you covered the notable instability jitters you see in the slasher's legs. What are your words on that? I thought it was very interesting to incorporate that detail, despite the marker's seemingly full focus on "functional" mutations. (Expl: merged legs, extra toes, thicker bones....)
I love your videos whether it's the Tales or gaming. It's something I look forward to every week.
