    Each time I watch these videos, I am screaming "I LOVE My Little Ponies!" in the same fashion as Will Ferrell in Elf. When Will screams "OMG SANTA!"

    They look fantastic! Hard to believe that Sunbeam pony is 30 years old already, eh? Thanks for another great video.

    The best way to avoid brushstrokes is to use thin your paint down with water, and apply several thin coats! I find it the easiest method to simulate factory paint.
    The tips on doing their hair are really helpful, thank you!

    I got some ponies today that I belive are not My Little Pony figures, but are cute anyway. These videos really help with the restoration of them:)

    One tip i can give you: let the conditioner in the hair for 24 hours. It makes the hair extremily shiny and soft

    I had to go back and watch the parts 1 and 2 again before watching this, some of these techniques are great for customization, too. I actually like collecting blind bag ponies and wanna make my own original characters. And I'm not ashamed to say that. haha!

    When you want to hide brush strokes, you may want to try doing two or three coats of paint and then lightly sanding with 500 grit, 1000 grit and finally this is going to sound nuts, but notebook paper. I learned this from a materials and processes class in college where we had to build an acrylic cube that was within 4/1000 of an inch accurate to 1.5" X 1.5" X 1.5". One layer of paint, sprayed, is roughly 4/1000 of an inch so there was a lot of detail sanding to get within tolerances. Never tried this over vinyl but the finer grit should be delicate enough to not scuff it too much as long as you wrap the sandpaper around a soft sponge or sponge like form. Of course, this is all in lieu of airbrushing, which wouldn't leave any brush strokes.

      @retroblasting  9 років тому

      Adam Moore Thanks for the info! Yes, airbrushing would be a great option, but generating the intricate stencil design may be more trouble than it's worth. The paint does come off quite easily, so sandpaper may not work on the vinyl.

      I know this is old, but using watered down acrylic (typically high end brands like liquitex) and adding 2-3 layers makes it look opaque and smooth. However I often used for larger areas so I'm not sure how it would work on areas such as the eyes and cutie marks on the ponies.

    I love these videos. Have you considered cleaning the dolls with rubbing alcohol? That always works greta for me. Also, I've done several restorations on the hair of dolls ranging from My Little Pony and Barbie to some 1970s Ideal Chrissy dolls, and I find that dish soap works best for removing the stickiness I the hair. The stickiness is released from the plastic in the doll hair and dish soap is thicker than shampoo for human hair and meant for cutting grease.Also, a fantastic trick for getting the frizz out of doll hair is to run the hair through a flat iron set at it's lowest setting.

    Pit's finally here and it was worth the wait :3 and rerooting isn't that bad it just dippends on how much you want to reroot if you are like me and like to reroot the whole pony and give it a new tale so the hair has this new shiny look and feel you will have to order new hair but if i find a pony that is just missing a few plugs or has a cut forelock i take a bit of hair from the tail and reroot that part with the tail hair the problem with that is just if you have a pony that has multiple hair colours and a colr mixed tail you would either have to order new hair just for her or waituntil you find a pony that also needs that hair colour so it's more worth it so yeah it just dippends on it.

    Yaaaaaayyyyyyy.....another MLP resto. Need more vintage girl toys. I was aware of them in the '80s but had little experience. It's nice to see the other aisles from back then.

    • @CovetAmory
      @CovetAmory 6 років тому +1

      GIRL toys? I know this was 3 yrs ago but.. I still have to say something. There should be no such thing as boy toys and girl toys.. kids can play with whatever they're interested in, so can adults. Same with clothes and interests and room decor and jobs, etc.. there shouldn't be a girl/boy divide. Conformity

  • @singmylove39

    I learned so much from your part 1-3 videos!!! Thank you so much :-) Totally subscribing!!! I was able to remove flocking just with finger nails, boiling water, & acetone for my Truely & Buttons. Next time I'll try the advanced techniques but I'm still afraid of using stronger chemicals lol

  • @GarciaGungFuJKD
    @GarciaGungFuJKD 9 років тому +1

    I have a question I've been dying to ask. I saw the first few episodes and remember the reasoning for removing the flocking. It made total sense to remove the flocking and I think the results speak for themselves. Melinda would you consider learning how to flock and possibly try to restore one that way? I'm so curious to see that done. I know in the MOTU world Mossman was flocked and I always wanted a flocked Beastman!!! I might consider doing a custom flocked Beastman one day.

    After you paint the pony with acrylic do you not have to seal it with anything? I just think the finish would be different but maybe not.

    Any way to get red of marker? I tried magic eraser, an oxy clean solution, maybe the only solution is to try and paint over it? Also, some of the hair on one pony is still very silky, other parts it looks...... like puffy and fried..........anyway to improve that?

  • @goemonbeatsnaruto

    nice restoration, I see whizzer, the fastest of the g1 pegisi and she can be hasty with her action, and rosedust queen of the flutter ponies
    my problem with fim toys is that their way to many versions of the main six ponies

    Couldn't you reflock her if you wanted to? With the amount of "fuzz" material now a days, I'm sure you could, if you wanted to, right?

  • @rookiebat
    @rookiebat 7 років тому

    that wasn't ringleT. it was ringleTS. ringlets (the one here) was a brush and grow pony, while ringlet (the one you said) was a rainbow curl pony. oh, and your ringlets has DEFINITELY faded.

    It´s not advisable to use your finger nails to round up the edges of fresh paint. It´s easier to use a toothpick.

      ***** Melinda is 50% of this channel and she has been working on this restoration series for quite some time. My Little Pony is part of the 1980s and a number of our subscribers were waiting for this video. I'm disappointed to see such a lack of faith despite our constant quality output. We have a number of new videos in the works on all kinds of topics. I hope you'll still be with us. - Michael
