Thanks for being honest about how you got your job. Some people make it seem as though they got their job purely because of their own effort, that you can get any job as long as you follow certain How-Tos as if everything can be obtained through individual effort, which is not very true.
It's true - there's always going to be some balance between luck and individual effort. If we knew how much each impacted the other, maybe we'd all have more of what we want! I definitely believe in being prepared (because that's what you can control) but appreciate that opportunity may not come to everyone who deserves it.
I like the content, but I find the music to be a bit too loud and distracting. I hope it can be improved in future videos because the content is really meaningful even without that music.
Hey! Thank you for all of your videos on project management. They have been really helpful. Since you've researched the field well, I'd like to know if it is possible for someone with social sciences degree to get a PM job? I know this video is on similar lines but as per my own research, I found out that those with business/ finance and tech make it through easily. Also, what are some learnable skills that people from non-tech/social science background can learn to find or create a place in the given sphere. Often, there are rigid requirements, so it is difficult to apply for an entry level job. I hope to get a reply. Thanks :)
Hi Nimisha, it's definitely possible. I used to recruit for one of my previous companies and any degree was fine for the PM role. I think if you're coming at it with a social science degree, it might be helpful to think about and focus your resume on what special skills you bring to the table. Are you a people person and work especially well with a team? If so, highlight that in your resume! Or does your experience in social studies mean you have an especially high emotional quotient? That's how I would tackle it. Good luck!
Hi! I have a chemistry/chemical engineering background. I work as a RD&E chemist now, and I was wondering if innovation projects can count towards project hours for a PMP certification?
Hello Emma! thanks for the videos and to give us clarity about PM. I am from Live Entertainment shows, I am not sure about PM yet! but I would like to know how long takes to become a junior PM and what's the guarantee to find a job in PM after complete a PM course? at this point I am taking udemy course to see if is something I can do. but I still have no idea how long needs to study to become a PM. thank you have a great day.
Hi Brent - I'm sorry to hear that. Are you looking for roles that list the PMP as a preferred certification? Or reached out to anyone you know working as a PM to see if their companies are hiring?
I have a Bachelor degree in marketing, and I have an MBA with an emphasis in project management. I am currently studying to take the CAPM exam. I don’t have any work experience in project management and I am very much interested in such field. Would employers give me a chance with no experience? Thank you.
Hi Willy - I think it's about finding the right employer to give you a chance. Some employers do want education and others are more willing to be flexible. Best of luck to you!
Hi, I am currently pursuing diploma in project management and LinkedIn learning courses (I don't have any experience in project management) should I consider certifications like CAPM, Prince 2 as well?)
Hi Deepika - if you are already pursuing a project management degree, I would try to find a job with that background and later consider the PMP/Prince2 once you have some experience. Good luck with your studies!
i think it varies in different countries. from where i am PM is considered a high position job and most if not all of the openings here require at least 5 years of experience and i have never seen an entry level PM position. most would get to a PM position from first working as an executive level with hands on project experience.

Hey I have seen your profile as you are a project management consultant you having plenty of experience in project management field. Need your guidance to begin my career in field of project management.I have completed my master degree in Strategic Project Management. I have started my course in Jan 2020 and this pademic hit in month of march. Due to this pademic I have completed most of my classes online. I have completed my degree successfully. But from past few month I am trying to looking for job in project management field as a trainee administration / trainee entry level officer but in each field required experience. As a fresher in Strategic project management none of the company is not giving chance to a fresher. Your advice will be really helpful for me.
HI Vaibhav, in my experience, if you're looking for someone to take a chance on your, I'd ask around in your network if anyone has open roles. If you can have someone vouch for you from within the company that usually helps. Good luck with your job search! It's tough out there, but keep up the good work!
Hey, Emma thanks for sharing your story. I am an assistant professor of sociology but want to change my domain to project manager. but I don't have technical skills like coding and all. Just need your advice from where to start.
Hi Papori - If I were in your shoes, I'd start by doing some research into project management jobs (what skills do you need, experience, etc) and ask around my network for anyone who is a PM or works with a PM to do an 'informational' interview. Then I'd see where the gaps are in my experience and resume and try to determine the best way to fill those gaps OR if I already have the right experience to apply for jobs. Lastly, if I didn't have any exposure to project management and couldn't find anyone to talk to me about it, I would probably consider some PM education to confirm that I like the work before committing to such a big change. I wish you the best of luck!
Hi Blumagic Phil - I think the CAPM helps, but most candidates I've interviewed have 4 year degrees as well. That being said - "most" - I have interviewed candidates who did not have 4 year degrees but had PM experience instead.
Hi HereDianna - my first salary was $55k. I had to interview with the company (send in resume, phone interview, onsite interview). The job was for an entry level project manager role. I also had to travel if needed. Hope that helps!
