  • Old Red has spit and sputtered here and there. Now it is time for some fine tuning and a good roar. I can’t even express how excited I am to hear this 390 run. When I bought the motor it did not come with a carburetor. I borrowed one to try, but it would only spit and sputter. I never could get it to run right. Assuming it was the carburetor we gave up and took the motor completely apart. At least I knew it was not locked up and had some life left. We put all new bearings, rings, timing chain, and seals in it. Along with a bunch of other stuff I can barely remember. That was over 15 years ago. Since then it has sat idle as life got crazier and crazier. Now that I have a little time on my hands. I hope and pray I can finally get it running!
In true Old Red fashion, nothing is going as planned. There has been one thing after another it seams like. I was really stumped when it spit, sputtered, and threw fire balls at me. I was utterly disappointed. After a few small fits and choice words. I started reading and researching any and everything about my holly carburetor. Finally I read about fuel pressure. Which in my mind shouldn’t have been a issue. With a stock fuel pump I never would have guessed the pressure was to high. After ordering a fuel pressure tester. I finally was on the right track. Unfortunately one that just cost more money. After $100 on a tester and pressure regulator. We were finally getting somewhere. When the motor finally took off and ran I could have almost passed out I was so excited. It had been many years and a lot of work, but that low deep thump was all worth it! I hope you enjoyed this video as much as I did. I just can’t wait for the truck to move without having to push it! I have moved the truck to 3 or 4 different locations over the years. Hand winching it on a trailer every time. Thank you for watching and following along!

That was the first motor I ever built back in the 75.
