They recognize you from your videos and know you are the whiting master. They were ready for breakfast ;) Enjoy all of your videos. Keep living that bummy life. God Bless!
I swapped from braid to 20 lb mono and started landing the sharks from the beach. It kept happening even with 8ft leader and after talking to some guys that target sharks I learned the sandbars cut that braid when it's under high tension. I've hooked 4 since I swapped and got them all to the beach. Might try rigging 1 heavy setup specifically for this.
What I found surf fishing in NY around Long Island was some of the bigger blues, sharks and Striped Bass are metal shy. When I started using plastic coated wire leaders and like you did with single hooks my catch rate went up. It was also easier to retrieve a single hook than a treble especially when it went deep. Just my two cents
Bruce. It was actually the nickname of the robotic shark they used to film Jaws, which the story team at Pixar referenced when naming their great white character.
Go to a 30 lb mono main line and a 5 ft. Wire leader and it will make a huge difference in your break off ratio on sharks. Shark scales (the sand paper effect) grab those strands of braid and reduce the effectiveness to each strand. So even if you are using 50 lb braid the shark only has to abraid say 7 lb threads. With all the movment and stress you get from a shark that is like using sewing thread on them. Even if you do a double leader to keep casting distance you will come out way ahead. Keep your braid then double uni knot or some other 10 ft of 50 lb mono then your wire and lure. This set up will put Bruce in the sand!
You're just way too cool. Been following for little le les than a year now, love the fam interaction and the you share your real action and reactions. Going back and watching the youngr Matthew learn and grow all the way around is a real treat! Awesome you're living "YOUR" dream. Keep'em coming. Fantastic inspiration and example you are!...a land locked bum
Excellent video, Matt! Sometimes you win, sometimes Bruce does. But we always win when you post! Thanks for sharing and keep going!! Stay Safe and Healthy!
“Bruce” this shows that your learning with the people who views your content and get some good advice from your viewers also best of luck on landing a shark with a popper 😁🙏🙏
Didn't scroll through all the comments so don't know if this was mentioned. What we have done with a high rate of success is use a section of much heavier braid attached to the mainline before the leader. For example, 30lb main line, 5-6' of 100-150lb braid, leader of choice, lure. The knots on the braid will still pass through the guides well enough that you won't lose too much casting distance.
Bruce, fun to watch you hook into those sharks even if you did not get to land one. Those three sharks are going to be the talk of the town with their new jewelry!
Good video as always. I'll be bull redfish fishing soon. My biggest concern will be tying strong knots.. especially the leader to line knot. I don't use a leader very often. I was wondering if that was the knot that was giving you problems or did it actually break off.
ua-cam.com/video/mDip4_e4c0U/v-deo.html I tie a fg knot and this video explains how to tie it extremely well. If this link does not work look up “Briggsy fg knot” it is an Australian UA-camr. This knot does take sometime to get good at. If you use small diameter leader like 20lb you can tie the surgeon knot, really easy not as strong compared to fg knot
Great video BBB & B(Bruce)! I’m a sub for you, Brant, and BB. Here in Phoenix, I watch you guys fishing and I plan to visit those areas with my wife in the next year or two. I’ve had a lot of fun fishing around Sebastian and Melbourne years ago. You guys inspire me to try the Florida West coast/Panhandle area. Thanks for all the information and fun! Tom
Bruce the brut. thanks again for your awesome videos. maybe change your braid to straight mono to wire. Keep living your dreams and taking us along. God Bless and stay safe 🙏
I enjoy your videos. I'm a retired senior in San Diego that only goes arm-chair fishing. But your one of the best I've seen. Question: what percent of fish you bring to beach already have hooks in then? It is nice that you consider the fishes health too. Thanks for making arm-chair fishing so enjoyable.
Blacktips jump just as much as Spinners. Good mono will give just enough sometimes to avoid the tail whip as opposed to no give braid which is quite often not very shock resistant.
BRUCE....He handed you your hat!!!!! Fun to watch him jumping though! I think the Fred Convention was there to watch a human lose fish, they pay premium seats to get up front and personal and they get the VIP meet and Greet!
Those black tips and spinners wrap themselves up alot when they jump and eventually fray the line and break off. I like to use a good 15 feet of 100lb mono FG knotted to 60lb braid when I target them. Of course still use 1 to 2 feet of wire straight to your hooks/popper, but a good rule of thumb is to always double your leader size for the shark you are trying to catch and an FG knot will still allow you to cast it through your guides
I agree with the other comment about using mono. I had good luck using 20lb mono with a short 18 inch stranded coated wire leader and cutting off the clip and directly attaching wire to split ring. Casting suffers a bit compared to braid but your rig will last much longer. Compared with the 65 lb braid plus leader used before I had a 400% increase in landing them. I also think the huge stretch of the mono keeps the lure pinned when they jump out and shake compared with braid and gives you a huge shock absorber. Good luck brother and eat one of those, they are delicious.
Enjoyed the video really good to see you back my friend I hope everything is okay take care of yourself I'll catch you on your next video of your friend Billy Simmons
If you switch to mono to keep from the abrasion or cuts to braided line under high tension, try some XT by Trilene. It comes off the spool more like wire. I use big plugs and it casts them really well.
Bruce…. I’ve been watching your videos off and on for a couple years now. Keep up the great videos with you and all our friends, great content as always. I can’t wait to visit Gulf Shores area again with family next summer and due some surf fishing. From Rio Rancho, New Mexico thanks for all the great info and content Mark Wolff
Sometimes when I top water , if I getting chased , I either speed up or do a little stop then continue, either get the bite, on the stop or on the restart, or when I pick up speed!!Good video!!
Great vid as always, but gee whiz..that was 4 poppers gone, where do you get them and at what price that you can afford to loose them, they're not cheap.
I think the Freds had heard about the battle between you and Bruce and were betting on the final outcome .Seems this time Bruce may have whooped ya, lol . Thanks for making and sharing the great content . Best wishes & much love from the UK my friend .
Dude those spinners are hard to beach. Ive hooked a few. They breach and spool the line on their bodies and make it suuuuper hard to not get frayed off. Thicker cast leader 100+ with about 30ft might help. Suffix mono main might also assist. Sucks though that you dont get the capacity but the mono main helps to cushion those head shakes.
I am doing the same thing here in Destin and you need to move up to an 6ft of 150lbs leader. Running 30lbs braid main line. Those spinner sharks are tuff on gear
"Bruce" - It is always tough not being able to get that big fish in and getting bit off. Been there a lot of times and sometimes you just got to move on and do something else or you will go crazy. Fun video because from experience it's no always a successful day of catching and we all have these days, weeks, or months when targeting fish.
I was just down in the Mexico Beach area and the sharks are everywhere down there now. We caught a ton of them. They were even schooling in some places. Most were blacktips and Atlantic sharpnose. But tons of fun to catch. Great video bro!!!!
Bruce got away and I know it has to be frustrating but it’s not always about catching but more about the adventure. The hook will rust away shortly. Tight lines my friends
I haven’t been watching your videos in a while and watched this and it reminded me on how good your fishing and content was. I also hate loosing fish. But keep up the good work
Bruce! Hey Matthew what do you call a little one of those? It would be called a shar, cuz it's not big enough to have the ark LOL another great video keep them coming bro
I think you need to have a much longer topshot of mono on your heavy surf fishing rigs. Mono stretches, but it's much more abrasion resistant than braid. Have the braid as backing to the mono. Might keep those sharks from chafing you off.
That's a great way to catch a cobia. I don't know if they come close enough there but I've hooked them close to the beach in Sarasota FL. They're easy to mistake for a shark at a distance. Sooner or later you'll get one if you toss poppers. You can add 2' of leader on the back hook eye and put a light jig dangling under the popper. You'll catch fish on the jig too, like a popping cork that catches fish. I've had it work for snook. Just an idea you might not have thought about.
The Fred's were all calling Bruce. The shark could hear them calling Bruce. Knowing his name is Richard may help to keep from aggravating him so much next time.
"Bruce" did get the upper hand. I have lost so many top water lures not even targeting sharks but it happens. It is cool to see them go after the top water. Great video
Sharks are fun to fight!!! They are absolutely made of muscle!!! But I absolutely understand your reason for your decision regarding the top water, sharks, and the beach.
As soon as I start seeing sharks, I stop fishing and think about moving. Bruce in Finding Nemo got his name from Bruce the Mechanical Shark (named that by the film crew) in Jaws.
That's fishing for ya, I have never caught a shark, but I would love to. But some days it don't matter what you do things just don't work out. But a bad day fishing is better then a good day doing most anything else, just to be on the water and enjoy nature is a reward in of itself. Keep fishing, love the videos.
What’s your best guess for the reason all the Fred’s were meeting?
They recognize you from your videos and know you are the whiting master. They were ready for breakfast ;) Enjoy all of your videos. Keep living that bummy life. God Bless!
Sunday meetup before Fred church
They wanted a discount code for your beach fishing coarse.
They heard the bama beach bum was gonna be fishing and they knew he'd be yanking some lips so they thought they'd just watch a beach bum master.
bait on the beach.
I swapped from braid to 20 lb mono and started landing the sharks from the beach. I've hooked 4 since I swapped and got them all to the beach. Might try rigging 1 heavy setup specifically for this.
Great idea, definitely would have a better chance with all mono.
Looks like Bruce kicked your caboose.
Bruce. Feeling your pain but the struggle is worth it!
What I found surf fishing in NY around Long Island was some of the bigger blues, sharks and Striped Bass are metal shy. Freds are like Johnny Cash, I’ve been everywhere. Same Freds we have on the Mississippi Coast. Sometimes they keep me company.
“Bruce” this shows that your learning with the people who views your content and get some good advice from your viewers also best of luck on landing a shark with a popper 😁🙏🙏
Bruce! Great video Matt. Hope you can expense out those poppers!

Bruce!! thats why they call it fishing!! keep on keeping on!!
Bruce, fun to watch you hook into those sharks even if you did not get to land one. Those three sharks are going to be the talk of the town with their new jewelry!
It was really nice to see you put the fish’s health above tour desire to land one. Class act man keep it coming I really enjoy your videos.

Sure enjoy watching you and Brant. Also appreciate your testimony video. Way to use your platform for sharing Christ.
Bruce! Great job even though you didn’t catch anything. Watching from Central Texas.
Bruce the brut. thanks again for your awesome videos. maybe change your braid to straight mono to wire. Keep living your dreams and taking us along. God Bless and stay safe 🙏
Bruce!! Gonna be on inlet beach next week and I can’t wait. Your vids are awesome!

Dude! That was awesome! Bruce beware!

Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Bought your course today, bud. Look forward to the info. I'm fishing the OBX and can use the help. Peace.

As a Hitchcock fan I'd be super nervous with a bunch of Freds eyeballing me!!

Have you been running into any redfish or black drum lately? I'll be throwin a line in tomorrow. Hopefully I can find the pomp like I did last year.
Awesome video BRUCE. At least you are getting a workout.
Enjoyed the video really good to see you back my friend I hope everything is okay take care of yourself I'll catch you on your next video of your friend Billy Simmons
You will catch Bruce one day. Love your channel.

Bruce 😂 I really appreciate you making videos the whole family enjoys watching you fish man.
Bruce may be KING, but Chum was the Mako with the hook still in his snout... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Keep the videos coming.
Bruce…. I’ve been watching your videos off and on for a couple years now. Keep up the great videos with you and all our friends, great content as always. I can’t wait to visit Gulf Shores area again with family next summer and due some surf fishing. From Rio Rancho, New Mexico
thanks for all the great info and content
Mark Wolff
You can't horse them in. Let them almost spool you and tire out. Thanks man! Great as always!
Bruce….. Love it Brother!!!
Sometimes when I top water , if I getting chased , I either speed up or do a little stop then continue, either get the bite, on the stop or on the restart, or when I pick up speed!!Good video!!
Bruce 😂 Yes, I’m one of those people with two first names LOL!
Great video. Bruce
Bruce wins, Fred Loses Matt. Makes Memories ,Thanks for sharing Brother...
Cool video Bruce, even though you didn't land one; that was still exciting to watch! Your videos never disappoint!
Bruce is a beast, but Fred's sketchy. I fish the gulf of Mexico from Texas. Matagorda Bay is my favorite. PB of 52" Red.. what a great life!
Perhaps the Freds, when grouped should be called a "Bruce of Freds."
thats fun just hookin up,hard part is the release they bite!good vid my friend..
Bruce...and Freds. Blessings all.
Very reminiscent of catching Blues and Stripers off OysterBay beaches in LongIsland Sound when I was growing up
Good one Bum! Looking forward to the collab with Nate. BB too, I guess, lol..
Heading to perdido soon, maybe I can get on some bulls!

Triple B, great video! thanks for sharing!
I am doing the same thing here in Destin and you need to move up to an 6ft of 150lbs leader. Running 30lbs braid main line. Those spinner sharks are tuff on gear
If I were having this problem, I would try lengthening my mono leader to 10 to 15 feet and/or switch to a reel with mono instead of braid.
Hy there love your videos I'm a long time subscriber, I just have a quick question do you know how far you can cast have you ever measured your cast
I think I hooked a Bruce, two weeks ago, on a popper for about 10 seconds. lol
"Bruce" - It is always tough not being able to get that big fish in and getting bit off. Been there a lot of times and sometimes you just got to move on and do something else or you will go crazy. Fun video because from experience it's no always a successful day of catching and we all have these days, weeks, or months when targeting fish.
I was down at Orange Beach about 5 weeks ago & we saw a 4ish foot Bull Shark right against the beach. Pretty gnarly.
BRUCE the Shark Lee. He jumped so high and did a roundhouse kick and cut your braided line in half. LOL His Karate is Bery good!! Bery good indeed!!
I was just down in the Mexico Beach area and the sharks are everywhere down there now. We caught a ton of them. They were even schooling in some places. Most were blacktips and Atlantic sharpnose. But tons of fun to catch. Great video bro!!!!
Bruce got the best of you, this time. I think all the Freds were making plans for the Labor Day weekend.
Steelon leaders! Make them longer so you can still get good casts. Top water bite is always insane!
Bruce got away and I know it has to be frustrating but it’s not always about catching but more about the adventure. The hook will rust away shortly. Tight lines my friends
Man that's fantastic, loved the video.
👏👏🙏👍✌️
Loved the audio going out and sitting in the sand! Hahahahaa
Bruce for the win 3 days in a row!!!! 😂
Man they are running with the line! I wanted to see what it was lol Great video so far!
Put one of those blue fish out with a big hook in it. Cheaper than poppers. Very nice job, super exciting!
Several sharks in close in Pensacola this weekend
Hi Matt I have been down with C19 sense Wednesday I have watched for you on UA-cam on my TV what hooks do you use to replace treble hooks on lures.
I haven’t been watching your videos in a while and watched this and it reminded me on how good your fishing and content was. I also hate loosing fish. But keep up the good work
Bruce . Were you using a braided leader then went to a mono ? Great to see hook ups on popper with sharks.
Bruce! Hey Matthew what do you call a little one of those? It would be called a shar, cuz it's not big enough to have the ark LOL another great video keep them coming bro
Great show today, I guess it was today!!??! I have been watching you for a while, maybe a year. Keep up the great job you are doing!!!
I can show you how its done if you want to go back out soon!
I think you need to have a much longer topshot of mono on your heavy surf fishing rigs. Mono stretches, but it's much more abrasion resistant than braid. Have the braid as backing to the mono. Might keep those sharks from chafing you off.

Bruce just didnt want to come to shore. Better luck next time
Go Bruce Go!! 😁👍
Way to go Beach Bum!! BRUCE!!!
These Freds and Fredas are your fans who live close enough to come out and watch you live instead of folks like me who can only watch your videos.
Bruce got ya!
Bruce, was actually the name of the animatronic shark used in the movie "Jaws" which lead to the name of the shark in Finding Nemo.
Gotta love the “Freds”
Bruce. You definitely need to do more shark fishing. Your excitement was fun to watch
The Silence after you lost the 2nd Shark was Priceless. lol
Luv surf fishin in the morning when we go to beach from Ohio! Great vid as always!
How far are you launching that popper?
The Fred's were all calling Bruce. The shark could hear them calling Bruce. Knowing his name is Richard may help to keep from aggravating him so much next time.
What is the best way to connect wire to your lure and swivel?
"Bruce" did get the upper hand. I have lost so many top water lures not even targeting sharks but it happens. It is cool to see them go after the top water. Great video
Sharks are fun to fight!!! They are absolutely made of muscle!!! But I absolutely understand your reason for your decision regarding the top water, sharks, and the beach.
Sharknado! Can't catch those! 😂
