I still find it funny how little the Vahki actually mattered to the Toa Metru storyline in the end. From these trailers, you'd think they would be a bigger deal
From what I've heard Greg felt uncomfortable writing something that was pretty much obedient secret though police with bunch of mind bending and brainwashing powers into children story. Can't blame him really. 2004 would be way more dark than it already was.
I think if the Metru storyline had more focus on the day-to-day of the Metru-Nui Matoran the Vahki would have had more emphasis, as they clearly are more effective at controlling the weaker Matoran than the Toa which the story focused on more. They really only seem to take on Toa in a swarm (like in the 2nd movie, but even then they didn't pose that much of a threat) so we didn't get a whole lot of opportunities to see how powerful the Vahki were individually and how they were even able to control the most populous city in the universe. It's a shame really because the Vahki have amazing designs and unique abilities but against the main cast kind of just ended up as a weaker Bohrok 2.
I’m reading the books rn and I feel much more intrigue with the vahki then just being bohrok 2.0 in the movies. Sure they didn’t have an essential kills with the toa like the bohrok and Rahkshi but they did give a general uneasiness to what is supposed to be a dystopian or metru nui. With toa essentially never being regarded as heroes and being in hiding all the time and many times just running away from them. They also were the ones who manually put the matoran in the balls which is kinda terrifying how much they follow directions even when it directly ruins their own lives
Honestly, the Vahki were just a small part of a much greater whole for the storyline. The early Metru Nui storyarc was more about the conspiracy with the Teradax disguised Dume, the attacks from the Morbuzakh and the Toa Metru having to combat the Anti-Toa rhetoric he spouted to the matoran who followed him in both blind and fearful obediance.

Absolutely fantastic, and great addition of Nuurakh+Lhikan short! The only problem I have is that at the set framerate the running signs blur and therefore are unreadable. There's nothing I can do about it unfortunately.
I dunno how I feel to this. On the one hand these are absolutely amazing and I love them, on the other hand there is no beating the rose tinted nostalgia of the originals. Either way, excellent work
Well it's a bit more complex then just loading them in, first I import all the parts I can from ldraw, or community made packs, using a plugin that makes that possible, and then make any I don't have. Next I piece them together like a real Lego set, set up their skeleton so that they can be animated, set up their materials and then they are ready to be put in a scene and animated. You can probably tell that the Vahki head, matoran body and some of the staffs are made by me.
I loved this era of Bionicle. Great to see it remade in 3D. It has that hint of what Legends of Metru Nui should've been; a fight against an oppressive, propaganizing corrupt reigime.
Yeah the movie doesn't really sell Metru Nui as the Orwellian police state it is, probably because it's a kids film or maybe the screenwriters themselves didn't pick up on it.
@@Willie5000 I would say the kids film part, and because they didn't want to go really deep into thinking about it. That was left to other areas of Lego, like the bionicle comics.

This is good! They really do feel like an update to the originals. My one issue is that motion is much slower than the original. The vahki don't seem as fast.
Nuparu would make Boxor spec 2 with Vahki remains in metru nui to use as support mecha of Toa, which is similar to Meteor unit in Gundam seed. I did use eevee, some of the shorter ones near the end were rendered in less than ~15 minutes. The longer scenes taking about ~30-40 min. It's really a great renderer, as it's basically just UE4's rendering engine, and it worked very nicely for the smooth untextured style I like to go for with the characters.

You have to do a process called weight painting. It's where you assign different vertexes to different bones. For bionicles it's actually quite easy as every bone can be one piece, but it gets a bit more complex when you want to do something like a human.
