Battle With Makuta (Voiced + Remade HQ Audio) [4K]

- I remastered the legendary cutscene from Mata Nui Online Game and voiced all the characters myself (No AI was used!!) - I've recreated and replaced all of the audio since the original was extremely compressed and low quality.
I was actually able to hunt down a few of the original HQ samples that were used in this to ensure the most accurate recreation. Enjoy! (Headphones recommended )
You're giving Takua a run for his money as chronicler with epic story re-telling like this! Incredible job!
TAKUUUUUAAAAAAAAAA
having had none of the context for bionicles due to starting with the 2nd movie on vhs i cant believe how Hard the writers went for Makuta's speech
Makuta is literally cancer. It's heavy stuff.
@@albertskoften1452that was always Faber’s idea yeah, but the way the MNOLG writers connected it specifically to lego; by having Makuta represent the discordant pile of parts on the floor everything a kid builds will come from and go back to, was a stroke of genuine genius
sad they ruined it a bit
Templar Studios (who made this game) were making this game in New York when 9/11 happened. It drove them go hard on what evil sounded like, and how amorphous and ever-present is it.
The "you cannot destroy me for I am nothing" hits harder than I remembered!
The most frightening thing, in retrospect, is how surprisingly applicable Teridax's monologue is for various cosmic horrors among various works of fiction beyond Bionicle.
The Reapers?
The Necromorphs and the Brethren Moons?
The Gods of Chaos?
Teridax truly is a timeless symbol of evil itself as a concept - and that makes Him, in my opinion, one of the most terrifying of them all...

Oh yeah? Well nothing can defeat me!
Wait… oh s***
This clip was the highlight of my childhood! Which is kinda sad, if you think about it, but still it's amazingly epic.
Yah you weren't lying in description, sounds so good with headphones
Good job on this here B0ss
honestly this entire battle goes so hard. great job on the voices
I know this will be a daunting project, but we gotta see all of MNOG dubbed man. This is just too good.
This goes hard.
Superb take on Makuta, rly delivering the Tockaresque vibe!🔥🔥
Did you use Manipulator or sth similar on some of the vocals or was it simple phasing?
good ear! I used manipulator on makuta's voice and a simple 3ms delay on gali's voice for a mask reverbation effect
@@essengerbionicleGreat job on all of them fr fr!
you actually managed to mimic their voices as they were in Mask of Light... I am amazed...
Soundtrack sounds awesome, love the chanting in it
I'll be honest that was NOT the voice I expected from this channel. Epic work

The awesome voice acting plus hearing all the CRISP AF, not badly compressed sound effects has me yearning for MNOG 1 to be remade with all of that in mind. Fucking stellar! 🤘😄
Thus has always been my absolute favorite piece of bionicle media. The vibe and tone in MNOG is timeless just dripping with lore and possibilities. The larger than life toa, the tribal and foreign matoran, the wise and distsnt turaga, and this Makuta villain tuat left you guessing if he indeed was actually evil or just a natural entity. We get more of this in MoL where Makuta seems to actually have good intentions but goes about it in a bad way. I feel like that potential for nuance was lost in later years.
I almost thought this was going to be a meme once I saw your name, but this was awesome.
Essenger really is doing the Great Spirit's work this year.
this goes hard. got chills when makuta goes spaghetti mode and the music kicks in
The voice over is perfect. Would like the same for all the other MNOG/Bohrok animations styled cutscenes that had dialogue.
Gorgeous voice
Any chance we could see that recreated battle music isolated? I know it's a simple loop but it's very definitive in my mind for Makuta.
I didn't remake the song in the battle segment part, it's Killing Machines by Paul Hardcastle. I replaced it with the high quality version, you can find it on youtube or biomediaproject
@@essengerbionicle oh, okay, that works too
thanks!
It never felt so good to be hyped for NOTHING
This is amazing! Will there ever be a release of the Battle Theme as audio only?
Bro the voice acting is top tier! What software did you use and what sort of scuba mask effect did you use on Gali’s voice?
plus, you have insane voice acting skills voicing all of the six Toa!
thanks! i just added a 3 ms delay on her voice, it adds a slight phasing effect as if it's resonating inside a helmet
@@essengerbionicle Thanks! Also what was the name of the software?
While the master manipulator Teridax will always be a great villain in my opinion. But there's something about this original version of Makuta that just hits *all* the right spots.
Amazing!
Yooooooooooooooooo
Cool!!!👍👍👍
How about do it to the entire game 😮
Nice logical fallacy makuta. If you are nothing, how can you be anything?
At this point in the franchise, Makuta represented an unbuilt *pile* of Lego peices, so in the a since Makuta doesn't exist due to the pile paradox.
Essenger narrated Bionicle audiobooks when?
Hah, did you get a lil help from the folks doing voice training in the community to get the tones right, or did you use a voice mod?
I used a ringmod filter to robotize the makuta but the rest are just my voice as normal!
i have a low voice so it hurts to do gali tbh

This Makuta voice is unironically so much better than most of the "evil" voices antagonists get these days. It's low pitched, but actually sounds distinguishable and unique, the effects aren't overdone so you can still hear everything clearly. And on top of all that it really evokes the vibe and cadence of Lee Tockar's Makuta.
I always thought Lee Tockar's rendition could have used some more gravel and depth, and Essenger delivered.
Teridax is just the embodiment of all evil. You hear that name and voice you know you’re dealing real evil from the world of Bionicle.
Holy hell the voice acting for Makuta is fucking perfect, reminds me of Metroplex a little bit
thanks! some of them lightly referenced the movie voices mixed with what the characters sounded like in my head
@@essengerbionicle that’s pretty much exactly how imagined Tahu sounding ngl
@@essengerbionicle I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Jigsaw yet, that's who your rendition reminds me of
@@essengerbionicle do you plan on dubbing all the animations in the future
@@essengerbionicle the makuta voice is very close to what i envisioned him to sound like, that being the gravemind from halo. excellent work!
early bionicle lore went so fucking hard dude
I only got into it in ‘06 but going back and revisiting this stuff was so cool, loved seeing them swap out their masks and rely on their powers instead of whatever blaster got tacked onto them that year
Man the fact that we didn't have a movie following these stories is sad. Mask of Light is great but yea, would have loved a pre MoL movie too.
We'll see how things go with the Iliad project
I always wanted to see movie from each set. 1st movie from the toa's arrival to this fight with Makuta. 2nd from invasion of Bohrok swarm to born of Toa Nuva. 3rd about bohrok kal arrival and fight. And 4rd about the Mask of Light. And after that the next movies.
This and the Bohrok swarm storyline were the most interesting, wish there was a show or film about it.
Okay, this was awesome, great work with the voices and the audio.
thanks!
I always love the depiction of makuta being in ancient god of destruction more than the later depictions of him
I know, right? We went from
"The brother to the creator deity Mata Mui, the dark to his light, the yang to his yin, the personification of evil"
to
"HE'S A BIG SKURRY BOSS OF A BROTHERHOOD OF OTHER GUYS ALSO CALLED MAKUTA, EVEN THOUGH HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE MATA NUI'S BROTHER, AND HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A GODLIKE BEING, *AND* NONE OF THE OTHER DIPSHITS NAMED MAKUTA ARE EVEN RELATED TO HIM, BUT IT ALL TOTALLY MAKES SENSE, TRUST ME BRO".
I mean, the later material expanded the roles and lore of Mata Nui and Makuta quite a bit, so I’m glad they didn’t just stay as “simple good god and evil god” once the story got deeper
Makuta's sind wie Engel im Christentum und der junge ist Makuta terridax (Satanel im Christentum) vom Engel zum Gott (Mata Nui) einfach die Nummer eins der dunklen Seite.
I respectfully disagree. They turned a cliché into some Tolkien-esque stuff.
@MindTheMadness indeed. Makuta is Melkor/Morgoth. The prodigal son who forsook the mission given him by Eru/The Great Beings and attempted to rule all of creation, only for creation to rise up and destroy him.
...except the ending of the Stars Arc actually didn't conclusively kill him in my book. It destroyed his current body, sure, but his antidermis could have gone and possessed a different robot, like, say, Marendar? And perhaps the Toa would have had to kill him for good by detonating a vein of energized protodermis beneath him? Eh? Story fodder?
I am still to this day glad that the Mata Nui Online version of what happened at the end of the first arc retconned the last fight. In the very first book all the Toa do is fight the manas crabs, evil copies of themselves then after those sub bosses Makuta doesn't even bother to show up. Needless to say not even getting to see Bionicles final boss is so anticlimatic compared to this banger.
But doesn’t this version of Makuta seem rather out of character in dialogue to his portrayal in Adventures and Legends?
@@emblemblade9245I like the way the is in the books. But MNOG is a decent rendition of what he is capable of to taunt the Toa heroes.
I always got the impression, since, iirc, the books came out after this, that the book left the encounter out to leave room for this. Tale of the Toa ends with Onua remarking that “there is more to come,” which, I at least believe, leaves an open space for this to still have occurred since it was already out there.
The main difference between that and here then would be the battle vs the Manas, whether it’s 2 that they struggle against at first…or many where they fight and struggle just to discover they need to destroy the control towers (making the Manas, imo, more machine than animal). So whichever one prefers then (though I think the book version of that is the “true”? The Shadow Toa part of that isn’t, according to their Story Bible).
Old Terry's monologue gave me chills, incredible work man!
For some reason hearing Makuta Teridax called "Old Terry" just about killed me
At first I thought it was going to be a comedy spin when Tahu said "We have come!" but this is actually what the title says it is. You did a nice job making it high quality.
"Makuta, we have come!"
*_Cyberpunk shitpost stinger_*
Goddamn
Whilst the ignition trilogy was my fave arc by far
I forgot just how AMAZING Makuta's speech was in this
Fantastic job with the voices, bringing it to life even further
The sound quality is fantastic and the voice acting is top notch! Personally, and I hope you don't mind my saying, I'd have Makuta's initial voice be of that of a child, since he's acting like an innocent, vulnerable Matoran, not unlike when he posed as Dume, he can manipulate voices etc THEN when he transforms, he reveals his true nature, just food for thought 😅
It’s always cool when someone I’m a fan of shares a similar taste in videos to me.
I think you nailed Tahu and Kopaka pretty well, and Gali was a surprise, your audio work makes your voice sound passably female as Gali. And I think Makuta's voice is the best. Nice, raspy, the way it echoes when he talks and fades with his final lines...all that's missing is that signature laugh from the movies.
"Or the Void." legitimately sent a chill down my spine.
Brilliant. Every word Teridax said was bullshit.
Teridax lied as naturally as he breathed
Every word he said were once all true.
As much bs as that “for creation or destruction” speech he gave to Pridak when he was stalling for Matoro’s sake. Love that moment.
great voice. Even though I think Makuta should have had a normal matoran voice to look more natural
your vocal range is SERIOUSLY impressive!
If it means anything, I would contribute actual money to hear the entirety of MNOG voiced like this 👀
This is spectacular. I adored original Bionicle and the Mata Nui Online game kept me enthralled for so many playthroughs. I will admit, I miss the higher level of mysticism from the early days where Makuta was an evil (or perhaps misguided) spirit.
100% agree, that's why I love the 2001 storyline so much. A lot of mysticism, and a more simple, tribal athmosphere.
Not everything has to be explained, or have a technological/technical background. I preferred the story before things got retconned and explained to suit into a bigger story. When Mata Nui was really just an island named after a sleeping spirit and not a giant robot's face. When Makuta was the Makuta, not one of many.
@@MrAbgeBrandt Recently caught up on the lore post-Metru Nui (I stopped following at the Visorak), and while I do adore where the story went, I also wish that the "original" lore was more or less what it seemed -- but frankly I don't know if it would have been able to be expanded on very much, so I'm pretty okay with what we got. It was mostly very well written regardless.
This was a fun cutscene to see revisited. You did a great job with the audio remaster and all the voices, especially Makuta's.
YOOO this is INCREDIBLE - fantastic work bringing this beloved cutscene up to a more modern sound standard!
You hit it out of the ballpark with this amazing voice acting. Please continue with the high quality posting.
To me this has always been the first thing that comes to mind when I think "evil", this, since I was a child, this has always been my prime and leading example on villainy, putting it in words is unnecessary, it really speaks for itself, nothing else I've seen later has topped this, nothing.
Also I love that one video with the cancelled 2001 pc game ethereal voices is simply legendary, specially since for Makuta they gave him this random twisted noises that change in pitch and god I love it, it's the Toa Kaita voice supposedly.
I didn't realize this was the Essenger channel. Thought I'd stumbled upon an old Bionicle video. Wow bro you got some creative range.
Think I'm gonna coom.
Firstly, that voicework is class, your range is impressive. Are those voice clips unedited (besides the cool filters) or is it like Matthew Wood in Star Wars where he does the lines and then heavily post processes? Also out of curiosity, where did you find the HQ sound effects? Did you have to rummage through a bunch of 90s sample CDs like the Zero-G Datafiles to find them?
there's only really post processing on makuta, though theres a slight phase delay on gali's voice for the helmet effect. And I believe justin luchter shared some mnog samples somewhere and i found them on some discord, I can't remember, there's not that many though. I did actually look through some zero G stuff with some success though haha
1:08 Kopaka moved his head like he was expecting something from his team, like a reaction, but what they were doing was standing still without a move, listening Makuta's words.
Kopaka: Your actually listening to this nonsense
3:16 love how it looks like the green dude sees the other ascend is just shrugging like “alright”
Only thing I'd say is I imagined a little more urgency in Kopaka's line, but otherwise this is impressively put together. Good job!
Absolutely incredible! Chills all over. Imagine a fully voiced adaptation of MNOG. It would be like the 2001 movie we never got.
This is sick as hell - incredible work
Do you have any tips on how you were able to voice Gali? it’s extremely well done and I want to get into my own voice acting as well especially with feminine sounding characters
It is an unwriten rule that Makuta (Teridax) must have a *deep, menacing, sexy* voice.
We heard that voice from Mask of Light and Legends of Metru Nui before..
I always thought tim curry would do a good makuta
This is brilliant stuff, dude
This has always been my favorite version of Makuta. More of a thing than an actual character, a faceless entity whose existence can never be truly erased.
Very cool!
I will say, I always liked how this game was *not* voice acted though. The way the Bionicles gesture as they communicate was so endearing paired with the sounds of their little servos moving, and I like to think that Bionicles don't "speak" with audible voices per say, but rather over short range radio waves/Bluetooth type technology. To me that always added another layer of intrigue and mystery to the world and characters!
To clarify, this voiced edit is incredible! ♥️ Just providing my personal take on the classic game
Holy mother of god this is a supermassive colossal W
This already has become one of my most favorite videos of all time, this is what I am here for, quality Bionicle content. Please keep making outright incredible stuff like this, Essenger, me and your community absolutely love what you do!
Makuta is basically the Unicron of Bionicle
If i were to connect this twist with the species retcon, i say what the makuta said from the movie, he served the mask of shadows which looked into people's darkest thoughts. This presence in that mask might be a entity that emerged from the void and into terridax's mask, partially giving terridax the villain he is.
Absolutely incredible.
I love this scene and you've done it justice! Always the defining moments of Makuta for me.
This is what I want to do. This is top tier voice acting.
"The people of the world are builders, but look into their hearts and you will find that they also have the power to destroy.
I am that power.
I am destruction.
And I will destroy you."
Dude, Makuta is an underrated villain.
"Makuta, we have cum"
My man you got all the voices down to the tee! What software did you use to get the audio so accurate?
I just kinda scoured through sample libraries for sound effects until I found ones that fit best, the rest I made with some synths and did my best to make the additional music parts. i managed to actually find a few of the same sound fx in high quality that were used in the game
Excellent, especially Gahli. Most males doing female voices turn out terribly, but this was very well done and evocative of how I'd expect her to sound.
Great work!
I couldn't resist turning it into _"Vezon and Fenrakk"_ type video.
(Can I link it here? Seems like it gets auto deleted)
The voices (and any editing done to them) and your acting were spot on! It added so much to the original scene. I especially love Gali's voice and, most of all, Makuta's! Excellent work!
Back when I played this for the first time as a kid, I thought the Toa just died at the end; sacrificed themselves to fill the nothing and destroy it or somethin
Vakama stating that the Toa achieved their destiny in the end cutscene kinda solidified that
was very confused when they were perfectly fine the next year lol
Was the framerate on this cutscene locked to 18 FPS before it was recorded?
Goddamn, this one video goes harder than the ENTIRE "Journey to One" Series.
You are incredibly talented. I can't wait to see what else you decide to make.
This is absolutely beautiful and also I love that Makuta was first shown to us as a Matoran of all things, and then turns into essentially a formless evil monster. That is genius
Holy shit, that voice acting is TOP TIER
Makuta, we have cum!
Makuta: I don't need it, ask Vezon and Fenrakk about it
Lol
this is some fuckin impressive vocal range holy shit
Where can I find the HQ music in this?
Wait, wait, I expected a shitpost this is really good
Nice voice over of the final battle of Bionicle's first year.
got chills. great work
The nostalgia I felt watching this was unreal.
Your voices for everyone are perfect! Now you got me interested to see the entire game dubbed too.
Do you plan remade all cutscenes from Mata Nui Online Game like that? Its awesome!
I might do more! there's just not very many with enough dialogue to be worth it

That Makuta voice is awesome! It has the same feel as Lee Tockar but deeper and more gravely. Kopaka sounds just like he did in MoL, that kind of smooth, stoic tone like Batman, and Gali's voice kind of reminds me of Samus Aran or even Sage from Sonic Frontiers, feminine and soft but still fierce and assertive. Awesome job.
Dude, we NEED a mnog remake
Incredible.. INCREDIBLE Voice work right there! Good job!
