Lyrical genius. Possibly one of the greatest songs ever written.
Nah, THE BEST! 🤣🤣💯👍✌
Word for word True Story of most of his life! Genius!
I read his book. Recommend it
The* greatest song ever wrote.
You're right. Lyrical genius
Ray Wylie Hubbard is a unique gem in the music universe.
Across the Universe.
" The days I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations I have really good days". I borrow this line frequently.
Lawrence Bowen amen
It's a beautiful saying and necessary to keep in mind.
The secret of recovery!
I like that one and I also like... It's nice to be important but Important to be nice.... Billy Joe Shaver

My wife found out about this song one week ago and she keeps telling me about my gratitude or lack of it😅
Me2
learned of Ray 20 years ago in Austin. He was then and still is now, the real deal. This is honest stuff folks.
It’s 2024 and still listening 🤠
Mother Blues and Tuinals!!! Yep, I lived through it! God bless Ray Wylie Hubbard♥️
Free my brother is my favorite. A
Hi
Ray signed my guitar for me in Alpine, Texas. I used to be night time people. Now wore out from burning the candle at both ends for too long.
One of the truest statements I've ever heard, "Be careful what you wish for!"
"Keep my gratitude higher than my expectations" . Those are words to live by.
Absolutely!
I played with Donovan at Mother Blues in the 80’s around the same time Ray Wiley taught me the Waylon tune “Waymore Blues” which I still play. I opened for Tony Joe White a couple of years before he passed and no one was cooler!
Blessed to have come across your comment good sir I am currently working on becoming a better guitar and bass player I currently own a spectrum six string electric guitar at of which I need to restring and retune and my four string electric bass guitar is a Dean.
People such as yourself and Ray Wyle Hubbard have been truly inspirational and have been a good insight to my journey for both bass and the guitar my hopes is to one day yet again start playing and own an aquistic six string guitar the best of wishes and may all of you have a wonderful holiday season and yes I'm from
TX. 😎🤟
I keep Waylon in heavy rotation and Waymore Blues is one of my favorites, that and Gypsy Woman! If you wanna get to Heaven gotta D. I. .E., gotta put on your coat and T. I. E. is my favorite verse and it always made me feel like he was just ad libbing the whole song the first time I heard it. I have Waylon's Greatest Hits in one cassette deck and Wanted! The Outlaws in the other my shop stereo and it auto changes from one side to the other and then changes cassettes, back and forth until I turn it off. It drives my wife nuts but she still puts up with me. Man they don't make em like they used to. Man it sounds like you had a great time and if there is any video footage, put it up; we all want to see and hear it. Cheers!
I went to Mother Blues for years in the 70's. It was the best hangout in the world.
This song tells the whole story.
I went to Mother Blues once in the seventies. I was a Kansas girl with my older boyfriend on a road trip. UNFORGETABLE
Mother Blues is a real place?
@@boatsandhoes4381 ow yea . My brother and I went to Mother Blues every weekend. I lot of big name acts showed up there after their shows. Saw Robert Plant and Jimmy Page there once . Back in the day it was the place to be. I even remember the 16 year old door girl.
God bless XM/Sirius station Outlaw Country for turning me on to this amazing storyteller. Long may Ray Wylie play on!
Great voice!!!
Ray I remember seeing You and Freddie.. JJ Cale Bugs Henderson, Jonny Nitsinger and many more at Mother Blues and The Cellar Club. later at Nick's Uptown 😎 Damn good times the 70s and 80s we're just so awesome brother.
I remember Mother Blues, on Lemmon Ave. as I recall. I was too young to go in but I eventually got a t-shirt from the club. Wish I still had it.
"It was not a place for law abiding citizens." I was only 15 years old first time I got into Mother (Maw) Blues It was a crazy place and you never knew who might walk in the door and pick up a mic or guitar and jump up on stage..... well Google the rest and you will know. However, I never saw Ray Wylie there unfortunately. Thanks for the upload. -Salute -
"And the days I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations,
Well I have pretty good days"
-Ray Wylie Hubbard -
As a Louisianian it feels good when he goes "down in Louisiana". LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULER!
Hello how are you doing today?
This guy is why God made music
"It was just the first of many bad decisions I was to make for the next forty years" - me too!
Ray Wylie Hubbeard is so great..... Mother Blues... Wow. Loved that place back in the 70s. Ya I saw freddie king there and shook his huge hand. What a great guy and player he was. Saw rod stewart sitting in the club just haning out. Jimmy page came in one night and lit the place up. I got busted in the parking lot for weed. I was given the option to eat it or go to jail. It was yummy... lol Ah the memories
Lol that’s great
Lemon Ave for the win!!
1975 Sportitorium in Dallas.....Ray Wiley Hubbard and his group are playing to a packed house. He breaks into Purple Haze and I thought that rickety old firetrap would break apart! What a great and wonderful talent. What a night! What a night!
Very good days
I thank God I was able to here this man's music, it's helped me though some hard times ❤😊
An American Icon-More sole and groove than a size 12 Sneaker. bk

That's how a Master does it.
Texas Blues Guitar Legend Bugs Henderson. RIP
Yeah I love that ”The days I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations………are very, good, days.”
"Look like she might have to shoot her way out". Great quote.
Right???
It is called a "lyric"
Love this!!!
November 13th happy birthday Mr.Hubbard 72 should be a national holiday greatest songwriter singer ever
I've stumbled out of Mother Blues many, many nights. Saw Freddie King there. Twice.
Ray Wylie seems to have softened a bit from his rowdy, early years.
Very good and mature! Thanks!
Rock on !! Love from Philadelphia 🤘😎✌️✨️💯✨️🌹🌹🌹💚🦅💚🦅💚🦅💙🤍♥️🙏💫🇮🇱💫🇱🇷💫🕊🕊🕊
I went to Ma Blues all the time. I lived off Lemmon+Wycliff and could walk there.
I'd watch greats like Stevie Ray, Bugs Henderson, Nitzinger, and on occasion Jimmy Page or Freddie King would sit in. I'd say "I'm gonna play here some day."
Well, I can't remember how many times I played there. I was bass/vocals for several bands including Krakatoa, HEXX and Release. Bugs, Jimmie Vaughn and Big John O'Daniels of Point Blank would sit in from time to time. Ma's was such a cool place. Gone now.
If you are still around and there is video of that, post it up. I would have loved to have seen those cats as would millions of others. Cheers!
A true poet laureate
When he was 21 years old my pops was his roommate and pops won't tell me any of the stories haha. Maybe one day
I honestly can't believe I haven't heard this cat before! That's the real deal right there. Right up there with Magic Slim and the tear drops!
Mother Blues was the place to be in the 70's..All shit was sold in the parking lot.I met Ray a couple of times at a one club on Cedar Springs I cannot remember now.We shared a pitcher or two.

Good Days !
Hey how are you doing?
Ray ,you are a true musician.
Mother Blues was probably the only live music venue in Dallas that had the owner, Bill Simonson, living at the bar (upstairs, for a short while).Freddie King, Robert Plant, Paul Rogers, Zappa..etc., the local bands Nitzinger, Lightning, Brat, Toys...etc. The patrons were much like a big, extended family and the employees were as friendly as they could be. Even "Tiny" at 7'2", 348 lbs had a big heart. Hoppy (Freddie King's mgr) was a friendly, humble, funny guy. Great music, beautiful woman and no shortage of mood enhancers.
Brilliant. Sitting here frustrated with the leaks in this trailer andclear varnish that fucking amber and ran across this amazing frumpy man. All the bs just fell away. Thank you so much sir. You make life worthwhile.
Ray is fast becoming my favorite artist. Too bad I had to go 60 yrs before I found him. I can relate to Mothers Blues.

I knew his brother, Bill, very well. He had his problems but I always loved that dude. Spent many yrs upstairs after hrs at Ma Blues on Lemmon. I hated to hear he passed in the late 80s. I would love to go to your Dad's club one day. From Austin to y'all in Colorado, rock on.
A man of acquired taste! Love this, thx for posting it! Lucas is doing good I hope, we missed him playing w/ Ray last year in NM! Man, Mother Blue's does that take is old farts back or what???? Ray's memories seem to run the same course w/ most of us regular folks. ♫ ♪ ♫ Minus the gold top Les Paul. My favorite GTLP owner was Skydog. ;o))
I Wish He Would Come To CT With His Son. Id Go To See Him Play In A Heartbeat.
