Welcome to the Ultimate Guide to Cyber Security Certifications! 🛡️
Embarking on a journey in cyber security? Feeling overwhelmed by the array of certifications available? We've got your back! In today's video, we'll be diving deep into the top 10 cyber security certifications, ranking them using a unique two-pronged approach.
    Key Points Covered:
Certification Salaries: Understand the potential ROI on your certification investment. We've researched the average salaries for jobs that specifically ask for each certification. So, if a job pays a handsome amount and wants you to have, say, the Security Plus, you'll know it's a valued cert in the industry.
Certification Popularity: Ever wondered which certifications are most frequently cited in job descriptions? We've scoured job listings on Indeed to provide you with data-driven insights. For instance, will CompTIA Security Plus yield more job opportunities than CompTIA Pentest Plus? We'll reveal all!
Although my cyber security course has been a game-changer for many, today's focus is on mainstream certifications. We're setting aside personal biases to give you an objective look into what the industry values the most.
    Why Certifications Matter:
Certifications act as pivotal pillars in the employment landscape. They not only validate your skills but also give prospective employers a benchmark to gauge your expertise. However, with costs in terms of time, money, and energy, it's vital to make informed decisions.
    A Deeper Dive:
While we've primarily centered our analysis on average salary and frequency of appearance, it's essential to understand there's more to the story. Some certifications, like the Google Cyber Security Professional Certification, may not top our list based on the chosen metrics but are invaluable in other ways.
    Navigating the Certification Landscape:
Choosing a certification isn't about picking the one at the top of a list. It's about understanding your career goals, the industry's needs, and where the two intersect. For instance, while OSP might be the highest-paying certification, it might not be the best fit for a beginner due to its niche focus and difficulty.
    A Personal Touch:
Towards the end, I'll also share my certification journey. Knowing which certifications helped me break into cyber security might provide some perspective. Plus, I'll impart some wisdom on how to approach your certification journey strategically.
Whether you're a newbie eager to break into the world of cyber security or a seasoned professional looking to upskill, this video is your roadmap. Dive in to make sense of the certification maze and emerge with a clear path forward!
Remember: The right certification can be a career game-changer. Equip yourself with knowledge, make informed choices, and watch your cyber security career soar!
Thanks for tuning in! If you found this video helpful, don't forget to hit the like button, subscribe for more content, and join our growing community of cyber security enthusiasts. Happy learning! 🚀🌐

Do you think CISM is a smart idea if you have 10 to 15 years of executive experience in another field and doing a mid life transition along with your course, Google, and Security plus? Also, does your course and Google prepare you completely for Security plus or will you need to do additional resources?

nice video, great content! i have 6 of these certs, but still i find it difficult to compare this 1on1. the oscp f.e. is a totally different cert than crisc. i have them both, but the knowledge, work and mentality is real different. the cissp is without a doubt the gold standard for cyber security, but for pentesting the oscp is on the same level, while for example the CCNA (which is on my list to get) is more of an basic allrounder. tbh in europe where i live i cant remember i have seen any of the comptia certs in job listings, although i think they are great.

So... if there were a credibility aspect introduced, this list would be a little better.
Barrier to entry, credibility, proof of capability, etc, would be more fulfilling of a cert list.
Assuming all things are equal, this is great!
Understanding they arent, nuance is necessary.
I have ISC2 CC, Sec+, CYSA+, Pentest+, CASP+, and continue to get denied. Why? Real technical experience. What can I do? Well... nothing, BUT I HAVE CERTS LOOK!
The Pentest+ is a barrier to entry cert for a position, but I'd need OSCP (proof of capability) to prove I'm worth being considered. (Outside of a portfolio, and other types of co sidersble experience).

I have never heard of Pentest+ being a barrier to entry cert?
If you want to be in red teaming you need an OSCP, thats pretty much just reality.
What's funny, is that I worked in IT 12 years ago, with goals to become a PT. At the time, I had Cybersec friends, and PT mentors and even then it was OSCP if you wanted to be a PT.
Fast forward, a career change (still did IT work in other job) and back into IT, and that dream is alive again. Backtrack became Kali, and OSCP is still required. So much changes and so much stays the same.
And thats a large reality with these Certs, why do OSCP, Security Plus, and CISSP hold so much weight? Because they held that same weight 12 years ago. And that statement, of being the gold standard 12 years ago, was also true then.
All these news certs, new courses, ect they will never match Certs that have been the gold standard since the 90s, they can't, too much time too much knowledge of their existence.

Would you make a video on advice on how to transition from a full stack developer to cybersecurity?
I’m still working on my degree but I’m making about 105k. I’m worried if I transition I’d have to take a paycut

Hey! The transition will basically be the same as if you were working in any other field, with the exception of 2-ish big advantages:
You have really good working knowledge of computing already.
You have the ability to jump straight into AppSec with a bit of prep (which tends to make a decent amount of money).
If you're interested in this area, I might look up "Application Security Engineer", "AppSec Engineer", "SAST", "DAST", and "OWASP" jobs on indeed and see what they are asking for in terms of tools, methodologies, and credentials.
I would definitely get Security+/Google Cyber level of knowledge, then maybe learn about OWASP ASVS and some basic tools for doing application security testing and learn about the methodology, then just start applying for jobs from the keywords above... maybe even add in "vulnerability management". You could even put a few projects on your portfolio to help, but being a SWE pivoting into AppSec is very reasonable :)

In Europe if you have less than 5 yrs of exp. Sec+ is S tier for sure, also CEH is like D tier

0:28 - ok, if you are "breaking in" - you really shouldn't be looking at $100k positions right off. You need to pay your dues. ;)
Overall nicely done - CIS Professor ;)
