At 29:39, Mrs. Doyle says "Father Neil Hannon". Neil Hannon is the frontman for the Divine Comedy and the songwriter responsible for the Father Ted theme song and 'My Lovely Horse'.

So I'm realizing that father Jack saw the future when he said that the next thing in the calendar was going to be... women's knickers. 😱 And then came the lingerie section incident.
I’m the same - was born in 1991 so had the pleasure to know (be aware of) all the episodes in their entirety but there’s something timelessly hilarious about them. Even after many, many watchings they are still wonderful.
@@cruisepaige Vorenus was so cute when he was running for office, awkwardly proclaiming, "Good people of the Aventine!". Such a lovable dork for a seasoned soldier of tough Gaulish stock. And all that stuff between him and Niobe, that was some Greco-Roman tragedy 4 realz.
Me too. I thought her falling down twice was a bit out of place and not really funny, but it all came together when she finally glided down the window ledge.
I love how Kevin McKidd plays one of the priests in the lingerie section like a PTSD-stricken soldier... and he goes on to have his most famous role as being Lucius Vorenus, the gruff veteran Roman soldier in "Rome".
This is basically foreshadowing that the Tea Master, which becomes Mrs. Doyle's Christmas gift anyway, makes her feel unwanted throughout the rest of the episode.
It doesn't have to be Valentines Day to enjoy time with your loved one. And it doesn't have to be Christmas to enjoy Father Ted. This is the 1966 Batman movie of Father Ted, I would dare to say. This might be Brad Pitt's greatest performance and Pauline McLynn is incredible.
🇺🇸👵🏻 I used to watch this on PBS years ago. I used to record “Red Dwarf” on VHS and send it to my Navy son on board his ship in the Mediterranean. Apparently, the guys loved them! But I’ve never seen this special! The guys will love this!
Thank you so much for this lovely surprise! I didn't even know there was a christmas special! Thank you Dead Parrot, your channel is amazing and so useful for watching these classic shows!
How did I not watch this special before! I love how father Ted is so vain and has these delusions of grandeur, reminds me of me 🤣🤣🤣"I'll thank myself!" Dying 😂
Probably my favourite episode, behind Speed 3 and Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse. Finally Amazon Prime have it, and it’s listed as the last in season 2, not season 1. I recall Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews (the creators and writers) didn’t like this one as much because of some of the unrelated nonsense because it’s longer than the normal 24 minute episode, but I disagree. The walk along the beach skimming pebbles and hitting the guy in the boat is hilarious. Note this one is probably the least seen as it was never included with the original DVD box set.
That is weird, it is in mine, on Series 2 DVD. This one, even says so on the front of the box. www.amazon.com/Father-Ted-Region-Dermot-Morgan/dp/B00005O0SD Also I agree about this episode, I actually think for a Christmas Special that it is still too short. Haha.
Fair dues, those peanut costumes were really well done! I suppose the budget for the Christmas show was quite immense considering the stars from Fr. Ted's first dream and of course the peanut 🥜 costumes! Thinking of dreams, one of my most recurring nightmare is not being able to find my way out of malls. Its maddening not being able to get to an exit or your car and going around and around it's so annoying.
This is one of the funniest episodes of a TV show I have ever seen, and my favorite episode of Father Ted- though I'm probably biased since it was the first one I saw. I watch it every Christmas.
You know, Father Ted won the award, and he included Dougal in that, but then they should have agreed to give it to Father Jack: "Award! Award, award, award!" :D
My father loved both Ballykissangel and Father Ted. I wouldn’t have known the context of the beginning if he didn’t watch it. Thank you dad, wherever you are. Did Father Ted really say got screwed over by Jimmy Fallon? The host of the Tonight Show screwed him over. Goodness good!!!
At 29:39, Mrs. Doyle says "Father Neil Hannon". Neil Hannon is the frontman for the Divine Comedy and the songwriter responsible for the Father Ted theme song and 'My Lovely Horse'.
I did not know that. That’s cool 😆
Not as cool as Father Brian Eno
Them being stuck in the lingerie section is probably one of the top 5 funniest moments of this entire show. HILARIOUS!!
Personally I thought this particular episode a bit lame.

Ted's detailed knowledge of the bra's is fantastic. The priest's wartime experience in the lingerie section is priceless.

The fact that Dougal needs to ask for Ted's permission in order to do anything is too funny.

That would be an ecumenical matter.
