It is not very natural for Spanish speakers, since it is clear that Spanish is not the mother tongue of this actor. Apparently, it was not possible to find an authentic Cuban...
I like the idea of Father Jack, Dougal and Ted all getting along in their hatred of Bishop Brennan at the end of this episode. It is a shame there are not more episodes of the three of them teaming up.
This is my favourite Fr Ted episode! I’ve watched so many times but only just realised that from 18:46 on, poor Dougal gets embarrassed and hides behind his sign when the ladies start talking about the man who “got his lad out”. This episode is the gift that keeps on giving
23:40 They didn't make an explicit gag out of it, but you can really tell that Dougal hasn't got the slightest clue that Ted is talking about blackmailing. Classic Dougal xD
Many of us who've just discovered this older series are surprised---and like me, delighted---at its courage in presenting the dark underbelly of the church. It may be done comically, but it speaks volumes about much of the hypocrisy that still exists within it. Even after the housekeeper and other townspeople do their fawning shtick in front of the priests, they often show how little the clerical hierarchy really means to them....and it doesn't even mean anything to the priests! Terrific series!
The writers really did a good job on this, touching on the ongoing confusion as to why the country is spelled Philippines and its citizens are called Filipinos. P and F, F and P.
If they knew that.... I guess the answer is that the nationality and the country was originally following the Spanish spelling, and after the USA took it as an overseas possession the Americans anglicized the country name - for political reasons. There would have been no particular need to change how the people spelt their nationality - especially as most would have carried on speaking Spanish as a second/ third language. Many Spanish words are still used, so why not Spanish spellings?
@@hossoneninesixtwo There’s a historical urban legend, that Japan pushed for the nation of Corea to be re-spelled Korea, so that it’ll always come after Japan alphabetically. Even after decolonization in 1945.
A very apt comment about how as soon as a party start protesting against any form of entertainment they do nothing but help raise more interest and awareness of said piece of entertainment than if they'd said nothing at all.
I wasn't sure if it was sitcom predictability or just plain human predictability that had me thinking the same thing. I am Catholic, and as a teenager I remember reading the lists of acceptable and not so acceptable films in the weekly Catholic Light newspaper. Seeing a particular movie labeled as objectionable made me curious about it but growing up in a small town meant there was no way that I would ever see an objectionable movie without my parents finding out.
The Temptation of Christ was the show in my area. Ive seen it lots since then. Its a pretty alright film till Judas shows up later and then it gets LONG LOL.
The dumb one that says “it looks like rain” when it’s already storming out reminds me of my mom in 2011. I got a call and she said “I think we had a tornado” and I said “it should be pretty clear, mom” and she said “well you better come see”. Half the roof was gone and all the 100 year old pecan trees were gone and every single tree was at least sheared off above 20’ off the ground. 🤦♂️

Dougal used to press random buttons during a cruise with a bunch of nuns and figures of the clergy near ''Black Rock'', causing the boat to sink and injuring most of the priests and bishops while traumatizing nuns. Claiming that all he did was ''having a bit of a laugh'', he was sent to Craggy Island to live where he couldn't harm anybody inconsciously anymore. Jack used to drink a lot since he got into the priesthood, because of his abstinence towards sexuality and other things that the church forbiddens, before performing a wedding in Athlone he drank so much that he started the wedding with threats about hell and damnation to those that disobey God and other happy stuff like that about how marriages were sacred and taken seriously, causing the wedding to be cancelled and Jack to be sent somewhere he could retire of the public.
straight up though, it literally wasn't their fault. they didn't fuck up the protest. they did exactly what brennan said and it just didn't have the effect he intended. this was brennan's mistake of foresight.

The translation of father Fernandez is hilarious and itself alone is better fun than most of tv series nowadays.
The part when Father Hernandez turns around in his sunglasses and drives off in his Porsche!
Something about this show feels so cozy. I guess it's the nostalgia of being a kid in the 90's

One of the many things in this episode that cracked me up was Brennan's first appearance. The wordless stare at Ted's fertility statue speaks volumes.
Didn’t know there was even a BBFC-inspired, satirical takedown of LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST of FATHER TED. Blimey. This is fantastic!
