thank God this was uploaded. The highlight version of this race is a complete trash, you didn't saw how the selection was made, who was jumping across groups, and many more. It's like the one who created the highlight version never saw any cycling race or never saw any sporting event. I've just waited too long to see this full race and greatly appreciate Olympic channel for this upload! Cheers!!

I am Belgian and a HUGE fan of cycling. I am ''only'' 36 years old but I have been watching cycling for 30 years for sure ! And what I can say when thinking back about this one is that... this was simply the biggest cycling emotion of my life. I remember shouting like crazy in front of my screen once it was clear that he was going to win. It was a HUGE upset, helped by the unfortunate fall of Nibali and Henao. I never expected we even get a single medal on such a hard race.
And the best ? 2/3 days later, I flew away of my country for Rio and went to more than 10 events ... Road cycling was in the beginning of the olympic games and the flights were just too expensive for me then... Good memories...
I hope we could win another time this year! With Remco and Wout we have good chances with us

The only beautiful part of Rio is the south side. 90% of the city is hideous and dangerous.
Having full videos of these long one-day races really shows how crazy/intense they are. 7 hours of smashing it on the bikes. Jeez. The level of these guys is incredible
By the way that Van Avermaet rode that day, he truly deserve that gold medal.
Nibali was te strongest but had bad luck, looking forward to see him at Tokyo

What a course! From amazing views to cheerful crowd, from cobblestone to steep descents, it has everything.
I am watching it from Rio 5 years later! That time I was not interested in cycling as I am now. I'm really enjoying to watch! Specially because I know every corner of the course from a car perspective. If I think to ride that circuit one day, I just remember that I would take more than 15 hours to complete it!
a single lap into this course is about 125 km. Ride at 15km/h would take 8 hours and 30 minutes to complete

Love from the east coast, love the cylcling videos just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist like Delta Parole, Three Days Grace, System and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.

@@fadjrimaurendra yeah it's so tough to ride out in front also. With only ten kilometers left he probably thought that lead three would get caught and he'd be out of a medal entirely. I think he was very pleased with bronze and he did his teammate well who was a beast for 230km.
@@pobsarducttapeproducts8763 25 seconds isn't a huge lead at all when being chased and rising alone. He rode incredibly well and easily could've been caught by the larger group behind him.
@@JeffSmith-eq3kc it is a huge lead or it isn’t... either way when the door is that wide open I wouldn’t think about letting only two people pass me; I wanna win. Those gentlemen FELL OFF THEIR BIKES and then went around him like it was a two man race and he wasn’t there.

Sensacional...caaara, é algo inexplicável, simplesmente algo de outro mundo vê o grupo que mantinha a fuga descendo e contornando as curvas após passerem pela Mesa do Imperador e durante a descida da Vista Chinesa. Reparem que a motocicleta que gerava as imagems pra TV "sobra" várias vezes após as bikes fazerem as curvas, devido a velocidade lancinante dos cara na ponta. Do car-alho...lindo demais assistir isso.
Pra quem não conhece...eu recomendo: Pedalem na Vista Chinesa e na Mesa do Imperador e saberão do que estou falando.
Além de ter alta velocidade, é um percurso altamente tecnico...em cada curva do declive..um centímetro errado ao tangenciar o trajeto, uma freada a mais ou a menos é CHÃO.

If you think as a stage from all other stages from the Tour....yes, this was the hardest race in history.....lots os flat sessions, lots of steep sessions, technical descents, even also a "Paris/Roubaix session, windy , hot weather....and sorry, this was also the beauty race in history and an Olympic race, what we do we need more 😉

As someone who has done the Vista Chinesa climb many times, I dont doubt it one bit. I climb it once and my HR is blowing up at 185 even on my lowest gear (34-30). These guys did the climb 3 times after a grueling semi-flat section with cobbles...
