Marathon is such a tough race they should have consolation prizes for at least the first 10 finishers (like after gold silver & bronze they should have, copper, aluminum, lead, obsidian, stone, graphite, limestone, clay or whatever else they could come up with!

You're awfully critical of someone who has so much marathon experience and actually made it to the Olympics twice in her career, and finish in the top 10 in this one with a field of very experienced runners who can all outrun everyone watching them on UA-cam by hours. Des Linden had a gameplan, and she tried to execute it. It worked out well because she finished 7th out of over 150 runners. If you think you can do better, you get up and do it.

sure but usually doping is ahead of testing always plus in countries with less infrastructure testing has been a problem in recent years. Most don't get caught.

The 1st place finisher would have gotten 90th in the men's marathon event with that time. Think about that difference when you consider that there is a MtF transgender athlete competing in weightlifting in the 2021 Olympics.

Terrible course. Flat and boring. Repeated U-turns that are too tight. Distracting non-competitors running alongside. A painful and pointless concrete jetty toward the end. And empty stands in the final straightaway. No favelas can be shown on international TV?

Well, you really don't know Rio. That's no way they could pass by a favela, or even the mountains just for a simple lack of space, there are no large streets there. Well, it's a city close to the sea, of course that places close to the water are kind of flat.
